Batman vs Bane!

It's on in Pittsburgh (Doubling as Gotham City) as Batman and Bane go at it in the middle of a massive priosn riot in the snow! Getty images grabbed these fantastic pics of of The Dark Knight engaged in combat with his most phsyical enemy to date in the Christopher Nolan directed "The Dark Knight Rises."

Bane was also spotted yesterday atop a Camo Tumbler, which was one of three filming in the area, which has led to speculation of a Tumbler vs Tumbler sequence in the movie. Excited yet?

In addition, here's some cool videos taken from the set and a good look at the action. Thanks to amd

Brandon Routh Hearts Pizza: Domino's Parody

Brandon Routh may not be sporting the familiar red cape and boots of Superman any longer, but he's still having all sorts of fun. The folks over at Funny Or Die called on the former "Man Of Steel" for his help in a commercial parody of those annoying Domino's Pizza commercials where they track down somebody who hasn't tried their pizza and force it down there throats.

You may also notice the lovely Carla Gallo playing Routh's wife. Let's just say beware of the breadsticks representing dude parts along with bare man ass at the end. You've been warned.

"Spartacus: Vengeance" Trailer

On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic in "Spartacus: Vengeance." Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops are sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus leads before it can inflict further damage. Spartacus is presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man that condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart.

Harry Potter Becomes a Billionaire

Now that's a lot of Galleons.

By the end of today, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is expected cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  It will be the ninth film in history to reach that particular milestone, joining a list that includes Avatar, The Dark Knight, Return of the King, Toy Story 3, Titanic, and, for some reason, Alice in Wonderland.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 is also well on its way to become the highest grossing film in the Harry Potter franchise - beating the record previously held by the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or Philosopher's Stone, depending on where it was released), which earned $974 million worldwide in 2001/2002.  Granted, 3D ticket sales certainly helped Deathly Hallows there, but the film is still a monster.

The eight films in the series have earned more than $7 billion worldwide, and recently knocked Star Wars out of the top spot as the highest-grossing franchise in history.

For anyone still griping that splitting the last film into two parts was just a cash-grab by Warner Bros...well, obviously it was, but that experiment was a success:  the two Deathly Hallows films have grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide so far, with Part 2 about to surpass Part 1's $955 million this weekend.  Creatively, I think it was a wise decision as well, since it allowed them the screentime to give the series the finale it deserved.

So, well done, Harry!  To quote the final chapter of the books, "All was well."  I think it will be awhile before we see anything like this again.  And no, it won't be Twilight.  Don't even start with that.

THINK TWICE: Does The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Deserve To Be Given A Chance? Part I

It was January, 2010, when Sony Pictures ultimately announced the end of Sam Raimi’s reign and the beginning of new series, new vision and new arc. One and half year later, we have:

  • Marc Webb, the director of critically acclaimed (500) Days of Summer, to helm the franchise about one of the most iconic superheroes in the world
  • Andrew Garfield, the winner of BAFTA and nominee for the Golden Globe, as a new incarnation of Peter Parker/Spider-Man
  • Emma Stone, a new face of teenagers’ choice, as Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man’s first love in comics
  • Martin Sheen, a first-class actor, whose name is associated with such movies as Wall Street and JFK, as Uncle Ben, the classic figure that once said “With great power comes great responsibility”
  • Rhys Ifans, the man whose appearance simply instills all characteristics of a bad guy, as a troubled scientist Curt Connors, who is finally confirmed to become the Lizard in the movie
  • James Vanderbilt, the writer behind David Fincher’s Zodiac, and Steve Kloves, who penned Wonder Boys and Harry Potter’s film series, as screenwriters of the new film about Spider-Man

It may seem like Sony prepared a whole battalion of creative minds and talents to not just return one of its main franchises back to the big screen, but make it with a completely new approach. Nevertheless, it’s obvious that, with the span of five years and total gross of almost $2.5 billion, Sam Raimi and his Spider-Man trilogy became a part of pop culture and even succeeded to establish its own fan base around the world.

On the contrary, there are still many other Spider-Man fans that were almost humiliated by Raimi’s films and blamed his interpretation in betraying the character of Spider-Man and misleading audience in believing who the superhero is. It was not until disappointing Spider-Man 3 and endless talks about the fourth installment digging a hole for continuous “development hell”, when Sony decided to make a risky decision to re-start the franchise with a new director and new cast, which saddened some fans and pleased others.

Now, with The Amazing Spider-Man planned for the release in July, 2012, the general opinion about the upcoming movie hasn’t formed yet, but already demonstrates its ups and downs. After the first teaser-trailer of The Amazing Spider-Man, the reaction from audience was rather mixed and left skeptical about the idea of the new movie. Some of the dominating concerns among viewers are stated to be: dark tone, Twilight’s influence, Nolanesque style, highly contrasting.

The fact that the film is going to show the origin of Peter Parker and how he becomes Spider-Man only added fuel to the fire of people’s perplexity and confusion as to what expect from the film’s the story of which was already told a decade ago. Furthermore, the last scene in the teaser, for the first time, depicted what it’s like to be Spider-Man by showing the swinging scene from the superhero’s POV. It drew a lot of controversy and love/hate feel, as well as comparison with the visuals from a video game Mirror’s Edge

On the contrary, those that were lucky to attend the recent Comic-Con, held in Sand Diego, CA, right after the release of the teaser, positively responded to the panel for the new movie about Spider-Man. Not only Andrew Garfield’s emotional speech succeeded to arouse enthusiasm from the audience, but the nine-minute footage became the main reason for many to reconsider their opinion of what the movie will be like.

Numerous web resources, from sites about comics and movies to personal blogs, from Youtube to Twitter, were filled by comments from Comic-Con, most of which referred to The Amazing Spider-Man as a completely different, yet faithful, take on the character. The footage’s content included such scenes as: Uncle Ben chastising Peter for humiliating one of his classmates, Peter awkwardly asking Gwen for a date, the process of making web-shooters, Peter fighting in a subway, Spider-Man making fun of a thug, police after Spider-Man, and, finally, the revelation of the Lizard at school.

In conclusion, the audience at the Comic-Con panel was gratified by Marc Webb’s endowment of his Spider-Man with wisecracks, humor, imperfection and practical stunts, whereas Peter, aside from resembling a modern type of nerd, is an outcast, struggling against society that is not willing to accept him. Aside from praising the coming advent of the Spider-Man they have always been looking forward to seeing on big screen, viewers especially noted the film’s tone and soundtrack, which achieve to bring warmth to the film and distinguish each scene from another, yet smartly building a big picture out of the prevailing theme that connects all storylines by its concept of, as Webb stated in one interview, “a kid who grows up looking for his father and finds himself”.

Whether The Amazing Spider-Man will triumph as a beginning of new incarnation, like Batman Begins, or end up as a fiasco, similar to The Incredible Hulk, will remain a question for the next eleven months. Regardless, the more accurate subject of uncertainty to ask now would be, if the movie deserves to be given a chance or not?

Lois Lane Hearts Stuffed French Toast

You'd think having an American icon like Superman (being played by the British Henry Cavill) would be big enough to get better chains than iHop to show up in The Man of Steel. Just imagine a scene where upon after punching Antje Traue, Cavill stops for a moment to enjoy a nice, cold Coca-Cola or eats a Big-Mac for the energy he needs to kick Michael Shannon's Zod in the balls.

In what's basically a cute little article from TribLocal (That's been mysteriously pulled) on a local and his 15 minutes of fame as a background extra comes a tiny revelation. Amy Adams has already reported on set for the Superman reboot, and filmed a sequence where she's dining at the local Smallville iHop.

Didn't occur to me that the Daily Planet reporter might step foot on Supes' home-turf.

Here are some exerpts from the now defunct article courtesy of Waubonsie Valley High School student & iHop employee turned actor for a day Ahmed Helmy.

On How He Scored The Part:

“Most of my friends knew about the movie already and some even tried out. I was at work when they came in and just asked me if I’d play myself as a waiter.”

On Filming His Scene:

“Well I was surprised that it was kinda’ tiring waiting around so much outside the restaurant while they got the scene just perfect, but once we started filming it was cool."

On Amy Adams:

“I think I’ll be in the film because I walk past her table a couple of times; I’m in the background.

On Zack Snyder:

“He’s a really cool and funny guy. He knows how to get the shot just perfect. I could tell because he would shout cut only after a few minutes."

Rob Kazinsky Lost The Hobbit, but Gains Pacific Rim

Rob Kazinsky, as you may remember, was originally cast as the dwarf Fili in The Hobbit and made all the press-tours before production began along with his fellow dwarves and Martin Freeman. However, a month into filming, he dropped out citing "personal reasons" and the role was taken over by Dean O'Gorman.

Something such as that transpiring well into the shoot could mean one of many things. Perhaps there were in fact issues at home that needed to be sorted out or perhaps he was a pain-in-the-ass for Peter Jackson to deal with and was shown the door. Who knows? Either or, it didn't do him any favors. Notice how great Stuart Townsend's career has gone since being fired off The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

But, in his favor, he's recovered from that loss of appearing in a big studio blockbuster (that would get his name out there to a wide audience) by appearing in another. Variety reports he's joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro's futuristic monster-movie Pacific Rim.

Maybe it's a pure coincidence that Kazinsky ended up in a movie directed by del Toro, who we all know was the originally-assigned director on Hobbit before vacating his seat.

Red Tails Trailer Made with 100% Real Cheese

If you were optimistic of Red Tails (like I was for the longest time), then that First Showing report of post-production woes and extensive reshoots under the direction of its producer George Lucas didn't ease those knee-jerks "How will Lucas screw this up?" concerns. Hey, you know you had them! That news-item dates back to February of last year and, besides a late January 2012 release date; mum's been the word on the WWII-drama focusing on the Tuskegee Airmen.

Its trailer is here for your viewing pleasure via Yahoo! Movies.

There's a great movie to be made on the subject of Airmen, and Lucas has been passionate about getting it done for Lord knows how long. So I was rooting for him and director Anthony Hemingway to pull it off and shut up his critics. Unfortunately I can't say I'm impressed with anything outside of the visual effects. Sorry but this looks like an overload of heavy-handedness and cheese. To its credit, it doesn't fall back on Edward Zwick syndrome, i.e. "God bless white people!"

"Man Of Steel" Shooting Locations

Via MyWebTimes

For three days, a bridge in La Salle County will be closed while Hollywood works its magic.

A scene from the upcoming "Superman: Man of Steel" movie, some of which is being shot in Plano, will be filmed on the U.S. 52 bridge over the Fox River east of Serena.

Illinois Department of Transportation media spokesman Josh Kauffman said the Warner Brothers production company was given permission and permits to close the bridge and adjacent highway sections for filming... on the span. Kauffman said the route will be reopened by Saturday.

The stars will be out in Sugar Grove next month, as scenes of Warner Brothers' new film, "Superman: Man of Steel," will be filmed there.

The filming will affect traffic. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a shutdown of Route 56 from Route 47 to Galena Boulevard starting at 3 p.m. Aug. 7 until 8 p.m. Aug. 10.

Betsy Steinberg, managing director for the Illinois Film Office, said the movie will be filmed in other areas of the state, including in and around Plano, the western suburbs and Chicago, for several days in September.
Motorists will be re-routed during the filming while the roads are shut down.

Vehicles traveling east on Route 30 will exit onto Route 47, and then continue to Galena Boulevard to the Galena access ramp. Route 47 traffic will have to use the Galena access ramp to get onto Route 56.

Westbound traffic on Route 56 will have to exit onto Galena Boulevard to Route 47, then either stay on Route 47, or turn west onto Route 30.

Specific locations in Chicago still are unknown - no permit requests have been filed yet - but the city has been advised that shooting of exterior scenes in and around the Loop will take place from Aug. 7 to Aug. 17, weather permitting. "The dates have shored up," said Chicago Film Office Director Richard Moskal.

That's fewer days than hoped for by the supporting cast of Chicago film industry officials, unions and vendors eager to play a role as the big-budget picture rolls into town. But there had been concern that computer graphics or Canadian locales might steal even more scenes from Chicago's role as Metropolis.

"It turns out their needs for Metropolis exteriors have whittled down," Mr. Moskal said. While Warner Bros. is "still tweaking many creative aspects, it seems there was far more digital work and perhaps less of a need for practical on-the-scene filming."

AMC's Apology Tour For "The Killing" Continues

Usually, when a hit show ends its season with a major cliffhanger, it goes over well with fans.  Everyone loves a good "Holy crap!" moment in the final seconds of the episode, and that tantalizing wait for whatever is set to go down in the following season.  But in the case of AMC's The Killing...not so much.  Fans of the show expected that young Rosie Larsen's killer would finally be revealed by the end of the season finale.  After all, that's what Forbrydelsen, the original Danish version of show did so they could move on to a brand new case next season.

Well, The Killing didn't do that.  Worse, they let the whole thing unravel in the last minute of the episode, infuriating fans who'd stuck with show for thirteen episodes that had moved at the pace of a glacier only to find out that the endless case of Rosie Larsen will continue next season.

According to TVGuide.com, AMC's Senior Vice President of Original Programming Joel Stillerman assures fans of The Killing at AMC's fall preview event that the network feels their pain (and is probably sick of hearing people gripe about it by now) and kinda admits that ending the season that way was a bad idea.  "Our goal was to create a brilliant, if I can be so humble, piece of character-based storytelling mixed with a genre we all love, which is the murder mystery..." says Stillerman, "We think we got there, but we didn't manage expectations the way we should have."

Stillerman also gave assurances that Rosie's killer will definitely be revealed in Season 2.  Presumably, they want to put this whole saga behind them as soon as possible, so I wouldn't be surprised if the killer was found before the opening titles rolled on the season premiere.  Or at least close to that.

Even better news from AMC:  Mad Men goes back in to production on August 8!  Jon Hamm is set to direct the season opener.
