"The Book Of Eli" Theatrical Trailer

The initial teaser for this Denzel Washington starring apocalyptic action tale didn't impress me, but boy did this full trailer.

We get a stronger sense of the shape of the film here, with a look at two of the important characters aside from Denzel's Eli. I absolutely love the Road Warrior meets Leone western look of this post apocalyptic world, with the metalic pallete giving a stylized, dark, almost Anime visual sheen to the Hughes Brothers vision of a ravaged Earth.

Denzel has never really been an action movie star but has always had the badass look and presence, however here, as the grizzled Eli, he looks to be right in the thick of it in some awesome looking sequences.

"The Book Of Eli" opens on the 15th of January 2010 and you can see a plot synopsis and the trailer below.

In a post-apocalyptic America where the once-picturesque countryside has become a desolate and violent wasteland, one man (Denzel Washington) fights to protect that sacred tome that could hold the key to the survival of the human race in this futuristic thriller from filmmaking duo Albert and Allen Hughes (From Hell and Dead Presidents). Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, and Ray Stevenson co-star in the Warner Bros. production.

    "The Tooth Fairy" Poster

Sometimes they say a picture is worth a thousand words.....this is one of those times, I can only hope that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson finds another script like "The Rundown" soon because this is just "Mr Nanny" level lame.

    /Film has the poste synopsis

Dwayne Johnson is “The Tooth Fairy,” also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids.   When Derek discourages a youngster’s hopes, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand.  At first, Derek “can’t handle the tooth” – bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers’ homes…doing what tooth fairies do.  But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position, he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams.

    New "Surrogates" Trailer

This is a much superior trailer to the first, giving a greater sense of the scale of the movie and the action.

It seems like the drama aspects and effects will deliver an at least solid sci fi thriller, Bruce Willis always nails the everyman hero cop like no one else and the production design seems up to par with i Robot.

"Surrogates" opens on September 25th and you can check the trailer out below.

    "Takers" Trailer

My TMT colleague Pete dropped the hilariously bad poster for this movie last night, and today I hit you with the equally laugh out loud bad trailer.

It comes off like an experiment in "what if Heat was made by MTV and had a horrible cast and dialog."

    The Dude is Rooster

I recall a while back that The Coen's were setting themselves to do a remake of the John Wayne classic "True Grit," only it wouldn't be a remake, it would be a more faithful adaption of the Charles Portis book than the 1969 fil. Well today comes news from Variety  that they may have found their Rooster Cogburn, a role that won Wayne an Oscar.

In what is shaping up as a "Big Lebowski" reunion, Jeff Bridges is in discussions with Paramount to star in Joel and Ethan Coen's redo of "True Grit." Bridges would play the role that won John Wayne an Oscar for the 1969 original.

Bridges last worked with the Coens when he turned in a heralded performance as Jeffrey "the Dude" Lebowski in the 1998 cult fave.

The picture, which also reunites the Coens with their "No Country for Old Men" producing partner Scott Rudin, has been redrafted by the brothers to be more faithful to the Charles Portis novel on which the original film was based.

Story centers on a 14-year-old girl who tags along with an aging U.S. marshal, Rooster Cogburn, and another lawman to track the outlaw who killed her father. The original told the story from Cogburn's point of view, but the new version will work from the viewpoint of the girl.

I love the original and I find the Coen's hit and miss, but I think the casting of Bridges is the perfect choice if they must go ahead with this.

    Josh Hartnett gets his guns!

Variety reports that Josh Hartnett is set to star as Gunslinger in a new movie conveniently called "Gunslinger," here's the detals.

Josh Hartnett has signed on to star in "Gunslinger," a revenge-driven tale set in the near future in the snowy wasteland of a post-apocalyptic America.

Hartnett will play a man who, along with his brother, sets out to kill the gang who killed their parents. Chris Nahon ("Blood: The Last Vampire") is directing, with Mark Williams and 2B Pictures' Albert Martinez Martin producing.

"This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns ... but with better weapons," Williams said.

Lensing is set to begin in Canada early next year.

Not exactly anything startlingly original here but the fact this will be a snowy apocalyptic earth as opposed toi the usual desert or grimy industrial look, will at least give the movie a chance to fashion a unique vision visually.

    "Law Abiding Citizen" Poster

Cinematical have the exclusive look at the poster for the Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx two hander "Law Abiding Citizen," the trailer for this one caught me by surprise with it's unexpected twist on the revenge thriller, however the poster is a bland floating heads deal with Sin City style writing that has me wondering exactly what the tonal target of the movie is, as the trailer suggested high concept action thriller, but the poster says pulpy comic book.

"Law Abiding Citizen" open on October 16th and you can check the poster out below.

    "Up in the Air" Trailer

Jason Reitman came to the fore with acidic comedy "Thank you for Smoking" and followed it up with the little movie that could "Juno," now we have the trailer for his latest offering "Up in the Air."

Starring Hollywood A-list schmoozer George Clooney, this looks like an altogether more serios and drama based movie than the two prior offerings. The trailer is one long monologue laced with images of Clooney's character flying all over the world, I'm not sure what to make of this yet, I'm intrigued but not excited.

Check the trailer out below and the movie in cinema's December 4th.
