They're Trying to Cut Lone Ranger's Budget, But It's Still Good, It's Still Good!

Disney might be content with castrating The Lone Ranger from production, but not the filmmakers according to THR.

In an effort to save the Western adventure (...with werewolves...) from being flushed down the toilet, director Gore Verbinski has reportedly been given a week (Seriously, that's all the time they're giving him?) to rework the Ted Elliott/Terry Rossio-penned script and present something more economically feasible.

Translation: a version of the script that isn't so damn expensive!

Problem is they've already made cuts, the trades say, and it's still far too high for Disney executives' tastes. Not to mention, both he and producer Jerry Bruckheimer already forked over some of their (pricey) upfront fees in order to salvage the project. The concern being if they keep chipping away at costs here and there, they'll essentially be developing something completely different than what attracted them to this to begin with.

Reminds me of back in Christmas of 2009 when news first broke of Spider-Man 4 dying. First it was denial from the studio front, then it was how they were trying to come to an agreement with Sam Raimi & Co. and how filming would only be delayed from spring 2010 to summer but everything would be OK and we'd still get Spider-Man 4 for May 2011. And then it was officially dead and here we are with The Amazing Spider-Man reboot for July 2012.

Anne Hathaway Raps!

Ok this is not really movie news as such but Anne Hathaway was on Conan last night and said she likes to write songs about things that stress her, and right now that is the scrutiny over the new Batman movie.

So she performed the rap she had written about the paparazzi, this is great fun stuff and just adds to how likable she comes across in every interview I've seen of her.

"Red Tails" Poster & Trailer

1944. World War II rages and the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Meanwhile the black pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program are courageously waging two wars at once -- one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Racial prejudices have long held ace airman Martin "Easy" Julian (Nate Parker) and his black pilots back at base -- leaving them with little to do but further hone their flying skills -- while their white counterparts are shipped out to combat after a mere three months of training. Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings. Until now.

As the war in Europe continues to take its dire toll on Allied forces, Pentagon brass has no recourse but to reconsider these under-utilized pilots for combat duty. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, Col. A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard) awards them the ultimate chance to prove their mettle high above. Undaunted by the prospect of providing safe escort to bombers in broad daylight -- a mission so dangerous that the RAF has refused it and the white fighter groups have sustained substantial losses -- Easy's pilots at last join the fiery aerial fray. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies in a heroic endeavor to combat the enemy -- and the discrimination that has kept them down for so long.

Creepified Short "Low"

As I continue to scour Youtube for interesting shorts and other such fun videos, I was sent another email pointing to an interesting short featuring an electrician and elevator. The electrician has a very eye opening night day in what looks like a library when he comes face to face with an unidentified crawling creature. Take a look HERE. Fun stuff.

Stuck Like Chuck is a comedy about friendship, love, college and the awkward situations that bring them all together. Charlie is a student filmmaker. Juliet is a hot film geek. Rob is just awesome. Since Charlie is a wreck when talking to Juliet outside of class, Rob locks the two of them in their Film-201 classroom for the night. Pop culture is dissected, life is observed and love spends the night in.
