Teaser to Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master

Perhaps fitting Joaquin Phoenix is hard to recognize in this teaser clip to Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master. Not full-fledged "That's Joaquin Phoenix?!?!" or anything. It just takes you a second. Something feels off looking at him here, which I suppose is the point.

Phoenix plays a young drifter-turned-right hand man to a charismatic intellectual (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) starting his own faith-based organization in the 1950s. For those lucky enough to attend Cannes will have the opportunity to see footage tonight.

For the rest of us, see below:

This writer/director, this cast (including Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons and Kevin J. O'Connor), this subject (Not too subtle look at L. Ron Hubbard and the beginning of Scientology), The Master was already on my top five most anticipated films for 2012. This footage just confirms why I can't wait to see it.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues Teaser Trailer

The hook to seeing The Dictator this weekend was the promise of the Anchorman: The Legend Continues teaser. Few-to-none took that bait judging by its poor $25 million 5-day results.

Knowing those results stood a good chance of happening, Funny or Die! has said teaser up for your viewing pleasure:

THIS is How Desperate Amazing Spider-Man Marketing Is Getting

A singing Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in German?

Those who already know The Amazing Spider-Man will right "Raimi's fuck-ups" (Strange since I didn't know said fans were clairvoyants) will accept this totally wasn't planned. The rest of us (Read: living in reality) will see it as it is. A desperate way of saying, "Please see our movie!"

Pass.

Skyfall Teaser Trailer

The Skyfall teaser trailer sets itself apart from other Bond first-looks. Oh, there are glimpses of action, exotic locations and beautiful women. What really makes it different this time out?

The mood. Thanks to the production design and cinematography. Also the first trailer, to my recollection, not to use the 007 theme. Pretty ballsy when you think about it. But for the moment, I like what I see. A lot.

There MIGHT Be Only One - Ryan Reynolds Up for Highlander Reboot

Verbal Kint got it wrong. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing studio-heads Ryan Reynolds was a box-office draw.

Apparently the receipts (lack thereof, I should say) of Green Lantern, The Change-Up, even the smaller not-intended-for-blockbuster-dividends Buried weren't proof enough Reynolds isn't the "next big thing" as proclaimed. You can thank Denzel Washington and the promise of his kicking-ass Bourne style for the strong Safe House earnings. Hell, Reynolds' role (He was the co-lead) was downplayed in marketing.

But again with the "No, but really, this time he's gonna be huge, I tells ya!" proclamations. He's the front-runner for the Highlander reboot at Lionsgate-Summit. Neal Moritz is producing, which could explain the inclination of boarding Reynolds since they collaborated on R.I.P.D. (due out next June).

Not that Highlander is a sacred cow (The fact it became a franchise still baffles). Just the Reynolds hard-on, he might be a nice guy. But he isn't all his hype cracks him up to be.

Ridley Scott's Blade Runner Follow-Up is Officially a Sequel

Still uneasiness of its development, a continuation of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner continues to move forward.

This afternoon comes a press release confirming the Blade Runner follow-up is, in fact, a sequel set "some years" after the groundbreaking 1982 science-fiction classic. Also official confirmation Hampton Fancher, who authored the original draft, subsequently rewritten by David Peoples, will reunion with Scott to write.

I'll be more encouraged if Prometheus lives up the hype, and God do I hope so. Until then, can't get caught up in the hysteria of returning to that world. Have to see how Scott's other return to the well does first. Have to remember Blade Runner, as influential as it was, was a financial failure upon release. Just because Disney took that risk with Tron: Legacy doesn't mean others will follow suit here.

Only Guilty Man in Shawshank Headed to Last Vegas

Morgan Freeman has such a relaxed, grandfather demeanor (Elder statesman, if you will) to see him yell, "SHOOT THAT MOTHERFUCKER IN THE HEAD!" in Wanted took you by surprise, not unlike Betty White cursing up a storm in Lake Placid.

He's been added to the cast of Last Vegas, a comedy about four old pals reuniting in Las Vegas (Get it? Last Vegas! Alright moving on...) for a bachelor party for their forever-single buddy finally tying the knot. Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro are already onboard, with Jon Turtletaub directing.

Assuming this is still intended as a raunchy-sex comedy (Original tagline when it was offered to Jack Nicholson was "Grumpy Old Men meets The Hangover”). Don't know if he's playing against type here, but God I hope so. The thought of a filthy sex-romp centered on a couple of geriatrically-enhanced fellas, I don't know, makes me laugh.

"The Legend Continues" with Anchorman 2 Poster

The Anchorman sequel has a title, (albeit vague) release date and poster via The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide.

Not much to go by. We still don't know if Christina Applegate is coming back (Knock on wood - easy to forget how hard it is to play the straight-man against dead-brain Brick Tamland or Champ fighting his urges for Ron). Guessing by 2013, they mean July. There also remains the task of matching Anchorman's quotability-factor and being funny enough to justify its existence (Imagine if John Belushi hadn't died and we got the Animal House sequel they were planning?)

But those are concerns for a little later. Right now, its about a simple poster sending a simply message. Action 4 News Team returns!

New Prometheus Viral-Video Centers on Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw

More Prometheus is better than none, I suppose.

Courtesy of Verizon FiOS is a new viral video focusing on Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw. Doesn't grab you like the video centered on Prometheus' resident android David (played by Michael Fassbender). Is it the overabundance of effects or simply the fact Shaw, at face value, doesn't strike you as compelling a character to watch as David?

One more viral video is expected before release. Hopefully it does a better job.
