There MIGHT Be Only One - Ryan Reynolds Up for Highlander Reboot

Verbal Kint got it wrong. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing studio-heads Ryan Reynolds was a box-office draw.

Apparently the receipts (lack thereof, I should say) of Green Lantern, The Change-Up, even the smaller not-intended-for-blockbuster-dividends Buried weren't proof enough Reynolds isn't the "next big thing" as proclaimed. You can thank Denzel Washington and the promise of his kicking-ass Bourne style for the strong Safe House earnings. Hell, Reynolds' role (He was the co-lead) was downplayed in marketing.

But again with the "No, but really, this time he's gonna be huge, I tells ya!" proclamations. He's the front-runner for the Highlander reboot at Lionsgate-Summit. Neal Moritz is producing, which could explain the inclination of boarding Reynolds since they collaborated on R.I.P.D. (due out next June).

Not that Highlander is a sacred cow (The fact it became a franchise still baffles). Just the Reynolds hard-on, he might be a nice guy. But he isn't all his hype cracks him up to be.

When I first saw the headline it sounded like a joke. After I saw Green Lantern I felt like he is the "safe" choice to play these types of action/super hero roles. Not only is this uninspired casting, it could also be flat out bad casting because I cannot see Reynolds fitting this role. He can be good in the right roles...i just don't think this is one of them.
