Del toro and Universal together At the Mountains of Madness

Lots of directors have dream projects but it's only now and then they get to make them, well the dream is coming true for Guillermo Del Toro as Universal have given the greenlight for his adaption of H.P Lovercraft classic tale "At the Mountains of Madness" according to TOLDJA!,

The film will be co produced by non other than James Cameron and of course will be in 3D. This is a sweet bit of news following the fall through of Del Toro directing The Hobbit, and hopefully the planned shoot for next summer goes ahead without any hitches, Cameron's presence as producer probably guarentees a smooth ride and creative freedom for Del Toro to a degree.

Since he left The Hobbit, Guillermo del Toro's next film has been a hot topic of conversation. I'm hearing he will next direct At The Mountains Of Madness, an adaptation of the HP Lovecraft tale that will be shot as a 3D film for Universal Pictures. The big surprise is that  Avatar director James Cameron will come aboard as a producer. Del Toro was non-committal when I asked him about the prospect of Mountains days ago as we discussed the Comic-Con reaction to Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. But when del Toro announced at Comic-Con he'd cowrite and produce Haunted Mansion, he told the crowd he'd set his next film shortly, and that it would be scary. At the Mountains of Madness fits that bill, even for del Toro and Universal.

The film will be a big ticket item, shot in 3D, where Cameron's expertise can really help. Cameron has said he won't put his name on many future movies outside of the 3D reboot of Fantastic Voyage at Fox, but I've heard he's making an exception for del Toro. Cameron's presence helped win over the studio. I'm told the film will begin pre-production in the next few weeks, and shoot next summer.

In the Lovecraft tale, a gruesome discovery made during a scientific expedition to the South Pole in the 1930s  hints at the true origin of mankind having come from elder gods from another planet. Bad things happen when those life forms are awakened.

Mandeville Films have Top Cow adaption in their Crosshair!

I love me a high concept action thriller (More on that later) and from the sounds of this article from Comingsoon.Net there is an absolute doozy in the works.

Mandeville Films will begin work on adapting Top Cow's upcoming comic book series, Crosshair into a feature film, the studio announced today.

The series, created by Marc Silvestri, written by Jeff Katz and illustrated by Silverstri and Allan Jefferson "follows a former CIA assassin turned suburban superdad who faces his most dangerous enemy ever - himself. Justin Weller learns that he has 48 hours until a suppressed program in his brain will turn him into an unstoppable killing machine aimed at the President of the United States. Weller races against the clock to uncover and reverse the source of his trigger."

The first issue of Crosshair is scheduled for release this October.

That has to be one of the best hich concept ideas I have read in ages, the hero having to actually stop himself from killing the President, not to mention the hinted at family aspect to it, hopefully some power players get involved so this sees the light of day with a good director and budget.

    Sucker Punch Trailer and Poster

Zack Snyder may have lost some fanboy love after Watchmen but he's back with an original called sucker Punch and the trailer has just dropped.

I'll post a synopsis below as the trailer doesn't bother really explaining what it's about but I'd say Snyder's  "an 'Alice in Wonderland' with machine guns," sell of it is pretty accurate, in truth despite all the "epic" CGI laden action I can't say I'm particularly interested, however check it out for yourselves and lets us know what you think in the comments.

    Synopsis:

Set in the 1950's, "Punch" follows a girl who is confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.

/Film have also gotten hold of the new poster for the movie which you can see below, the big mech with the bunny face adding another Alice reference.

    Priest Trailer

You may have seen the images from this film on TMT the other day and now there is a trailer, I'm not sure where it came from or how long it will stay up so check it out asap!

The story is essentially The Searchers with vampires and there are multiple influences on show in the trailer, but I love the look of the futuristic world depicted here and the action looks pretty kick ass, the fact it has a May release date suggests early buzz must be very good. Clearly some of the CGI is a bit ropey but they have nearly a year to fix it.

    Monsters teaser trailer

This movie caught my eye the other day but I sort of mentally wrote it off as a B movie, and yet despite it's very basic and B movie-ish title the teaser has me really wanting to see it.

I'd personally rate this just after the trailer for "The Town" as the most effective this year, the scale seems pretty epic for a low budget film and the whole thing has the same vibe as Cloverfield and Distirct 9, just a raw paired down sci fi flick.

IGN has the teaser and Comingsoon.net has a synopsis, both of which you can check out below.

Magnet has unleashed the teaser trailer for Gareth Edwards' Monsters, opening on October 29. The film picks up six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion and a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

First images from Aronofsky's Black Swan

Genius director Darren Aronofsky is one the most interesting filmmakers in the industry today, from his disturbing masterpiece Requiem For A Dream to his bittersweet marvel The Wrestler, he has remained a free spirit and avoided being pigeon holed.

His next movie is Black Swan, a thriller set in the world of ballet about two rival dancers played by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, Portman's character wins the lead in Swan Lake but the pressure begins to get to her and in Kunis character she sees the natural sensuality that her technically perfect style lacks, thus an odd relationship is forged between the two.

USA Today were on set earlier this year and have debuted these images you can see below.

Joseph Gordon Levitt on a bicycle!

That's a money headline if ever I wrote one, but never fear TMT readers the awesome Mr Levitt is not just riding a bicycle for the sake of it or for healthy reasons, he's filming his new movie "Premium Rush" for director David Koepp who is best know for penning stuff for Steven Spielberg.

The story centers on a bike messenger played by JGL (get with it folks!) who through his job comes into possession of an envelope that a dirty cop (Michael Shannon) wants to stop being delivered at any cost, Friedkin style chases across New York City are promised!

JGL is a fantastic talent (those that only got on the bandwagon due to inception go and rent Brick and The Lookout asap!) and I hope this move into more mainstream fare is a success for him, personally I'm looking forward to this, it's a simple concept but if executed well it could be the same kind of adrenaline rush summer blockbuster as Speed.

Just Jared grabbed the below pic along with a bunch of others from yesterday's shoot.

    Jack Sparrow returns!

Comingsoon.Net via uber producer Jerry Bruckheimer have gotten hold of a new image of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow on the 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger' Tides set.

Bruckheimer will be hoping Pirates is a sure thing after this years Prince of Persia and The Sorcerers Apprentice were flops for the man who usually has the midas touch.

    New Thor Image!

Recently images from the Summer 2011 Marvel blockbuster Thor have been arriving online and another one just hit courtesy of The Los Angeles Times.

League of Comic Geeks has gotten hold of the image and has a little insight into what we are looking at which you can check out below. I have never been a Thor fan but the images and little bts on this movie so far has really piqued my interest, the hall of Asgard looks stunning.

The new photo reveals a wide angle view of the epic set of the Hall of Asgard, featuring a kneeling Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Asgardians Fandral the Dashing (Josh Dallas), Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano) and Frigga (Rene Russo); and Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) both sporting ceremonial helmets.
