    Unstoppable Trailer

A /Film reader was kind enough to send them the first trailer for Tony Scott's "Unstoppable" starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, the film is loosely based on true events and is a story of two men, an experienced engineer (Denzel) and a young conductor (Pine), who race against time in their locomotive to cut off an unmanned freight train loaded with toxic chemicals that if not stopped will crash into a town.

I have to say despite being a fan of all involved I was not interested in this when it was announced as these kinds of stories tend to be a bit dry and dull, however the trailer has piqued my interest, the drama looks intense and the action parts of the race to stop the freight train look spectacular, the signs of Denzel and Pine striking up a good onscreen team are a big plus.

"Unstoppable" opens November 12th and you can check out the trailer below.

    New Yogi Bear Poster

From the films official site.......never have I seen such a hilarious, inadvertently inappropriate poster, the mind boggles at how this one cleared quality control.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - Trailer 2

I read "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" as a kid and I recall owning the 2 follow up novels however I can't remember whether I read them, if I did they didn't have the impact the first book had on my young self.

The movie version of Wardrobe was a hit and fairly well received across the board, however the follow up "Prince Caspian" was a bit of a dud, many believing the main reason for this was a summer release date, so for the 3rd installment "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" they are going back to a Christmas release and there is a new trailer.

Now I'm not an expert on the novels so I couldn't tell you how faithful of an adaption it looks, but nothing about the trailer makes me want to see it or sells the story, the effects in particular look very poor even with a few months of post left.

"The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is released in 2D and 3D cinemas on December 10th and you can see the trailer below.

    Butter - first look

I love a satirical comedy and this one has been getting decent early buzz, it certainly has a great and varied cast with Hugh Jackman, Jen Garner, Ty Burrell and Olivia Wilde.

ET were on set to talk to the cast, so while there isn't a lot of in this vid it gives you a good insight into the tone of the film and the characters that inhabit this butter carving world.

One thing is for sure fellas, even if the movie doesn't appeal to you and your girlfriend/wife drags you to see it because of Hugh, there are plenty of fine ladies in it to compensate.

    F. Gary Gray takes the hair of the dog

    F. Gary Gray is one of Hollywood's solid journeymen directors, his films rarely rise above the ordinary but rarely sink to the terrible.

I didn't see his last effort "Law Abiding Citizen" but I thought he did a decent job with the "Italian Job" remake and I liked "The Negotiator."

Word from the trades today is that his next will be titled "Hair of the Dog" for Gold Circle, it's a thriller about a successful executive that becomes the victim of a viscous blackmail plot that is larger in scope than he realizes.

Gray always seems to get decent casts so look for this to be a late fall release some time next year.

Road to Perdition sequels gearing up

I love Sam Mendes adaption of "Road to Perdition" think it's a beautifully bittersweet gangster classic with one of the all time great movie lines (1:40 Mark) delivered by the late great Paul Newman.

Now the creator of the books has been talking to movieweb about progress on the sequels.

Way back in November 2008, we reported that Max Allan Collins, who wrote the graphic novel that the fantastic 2002 film Road To Perdition was based on, had written a screenplay for a film entitled Road to Purgatory, which he would also direct. At the time, Collins was also set to direct the film, which is based off his graphic novel sequel to Road To Perdition. I recently got to speak with Collins, who was promoting the Road to Perdition Blu-ray release that will hit the high-def shelves tomorrow, August 3, and I also asked him about the status of this film sequel, which seems to be moving forward. Take a look at what he had to say below.

Is there anything you can tell us about the status of Road to Purgatory? We reported on it a few years ago that you were adapting your own graphic novel and were directing the film. Is there anything you can tell us about that?

Max Allan Collins: Well, I can only tease, I'm afraid. We seem to be right on the brink, or maybe it's the precipice, I don't know (Laughs), of a deal being signed. Things have gotten very, very serious and I have, for years, held onto it as a project I would direct, because I have directed five independent films. It does look like, now, that I won't be directing, but it is my script. That's the most important thing to me, that the material be faithfully rendered. That isn't to say that you have to do it absolutely faithfully. There certainly are differences between my graphic novel and Road to Perdition, but the spirit of the story is there. Mendes really got it and understood it and, I think that, in some ways, enhanced it.

Can you tell us who will be directing this then?

Max Allan Collins: I don't know. We've been approached and the offer seems to be very, very serious. We have signed a round of paper but it is not nailed down yet and it looks to be pretty interesting. I will tell you that this will happen about 10 years after Perdition ends. Michael is 10 years older in Road to Purgatory.

Our initial story from 2008 did indicate that Michael Sullivan Jr., the son of Tom Hanks' character in the original film, returns home from World War II, seeking out vengeance for the death of his father.

It sounds like some announcements could be imminent for this new film project and we'll be sure to keep you posted with any further news about Road to Purgatory as soon as we have more information.

    New Tron legacy Poster

Walt Disney Pictures have dropped an international poster for the forthcoming Sci Fi 3D bonanza "Tron Legacy."

It doesn't feature those awesome light cycles or some sexy Olivia Wilde posing, but it does feature Jeff Bridges as the first film's hero Flynn, looking a bit Matrixy.

I've never seen Tron and I am not convinced this can make enough money to cover it's massive budget despite being in 3D, however it does look very cool and I am hoping it succeeds mainly b/c I want the director Joseph Kosinsky to get a big budget for his next film "Oblivion."

    A new Focking poster

I've never seen any of the movies in this franchise nor do I intend to, but it's a slow news day as Pete mentioned earlier and this was a title that felt right as I sat here contemplating the world and lime juice with lemonade.

Good old Empire got the scoop!

Reitman, Cody and Theron team on Young Adult

Juno was one of my favourite movies of 2007, it saw Diablo Cody go from hot stripper to hot Hollywood screenwriter and saw Jason Reitman break out as a director to watch after his excellent debut "Thank You for Smoking." Now TOLDJA! brings news that the two are reuniting for Cody's new script "Young Adult" and the stunning Charlize Theron is coming along with them.

The Juno team of director Jason Reitman, screenwriter Diablo Cody, Mandate Pictures and the production company Mr. Mudd are teaming again on Young Adult. Charlize Theron is aboard to play a ghostwriter of young adult novels who realizes she has no identity with her pseudonym and plots to reclaim her identity. Her campaign involves going back and rekindling a relationship with her high school boyfriend--who's freshly married, is a new father, and wants no part of her.

While she works on her plan, the ghostwriter reengages with high school acquaintances and their experiences in trying to carry out all those high school hopes and dreams that often get crushed by the realities of life. The film's being produced by Cody, Mason Novick, Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith of John Malkovich's Mr. Mudd banner. Mandate's Nathan Kahane and Malkovich are exec producers. I'm told that Reitman has brought in Indian Paintbrush's Steven Rales to possibly co-finance with Mandate and he will be an exec producer as well. Several studios are interested in making the picture, but it hasn't crystallized yet. The plan is to get the film into production in New York on November 10 if all works out, with Reitman directing. Cody won an Oscar for her Juno script and Reitman was also nominated.

The outline for the movie is not exactly eye catchingly exciting but with Reitman at the helm my interest is piqued, I've enjoyed each of his three movies and for me each has represented a step up from him in his craft. For Cody after the misstep that was "Jennifers Body" this seems like a safe return for her, and it's easily the most intriguing role Theron has taken on in some time.

    Len Wiseman gets Total Recall

It's been 3 summers since Len Wiseman got himself a seat at the top table with Live Free or Die Hard, in that time a number of possible projects have been  touted, from his passion project Shell Game to the videogame adaption Gears of War via high concept thriller Motorcade and most recently an apocalyptic sci fi film entitled Nocturne, however Comingsoon.Net have the word on what he has finally chosen.

Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, "Underworld" films) is in final negotiations to direct Columbia Pictures' Total Recall, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. The film will be a new, contemporized adaptation of Total Recall, which was based on the story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. Kurt Wimmer is writing the screenplay. Neal H. Moritz will produce through his Original Film banner.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "Len has an incredible love of the genre and a great gift for action. He'll bring a contemporary feel to the film while taking care with everything we love about Philip K. Dick's original story."

Moritz said, "I have been trying for years to work with Len and fortunately we finally found a great project that he loves as much as we do. Len is terrifically talented and we know he is the right director to re-imagine Total Recall for a new generation of fans."

Last week, ComingSoon.net talked with Moritz, who told us a little bit about his planned revamping of the property. You can watch that video interview
    here.

Wiseman added, "I've always been fascinated with Philip K. Dick's short story, and I'm excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks. I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul."

Toby Jaffe will oversee production on behalf of Original Film. Tolmach and Sam Dickerman are overseeing the project on behalf of the studio. Columbia Pictures secured the rights to "Total Recall" from Miramax.

The original movie adaption with Arnie was one of the first R rated movies I ever saw so I have a soft spot for it, however I like Wiseman's style and I think the story of Total Recall can be approached from a number of angles, clearly this will be an action film but it wont be garish ultra violence like Verhoven's, instead I'm hoping/expecting for a tone and style similar to Minority Report which for my money is just behind Blade Runner as the best Phillip K. Dick adaption.

While it has been 3 years since Wiseman made a movie he has not been totally idle, I found out the other day that he directed the fantastic looking Hawaii Five-0 pilot which you can see on CBS, September 20th.
