"Oz The Great And Powerful" Rolls Film In Michigan

Walt Disney Pictures' fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, went in front of the cameras at the brand-new Raleigh Studios in Pontiac, Michigan, on Monday, July 25, 2011, boasting a stellar cast that includes Academy Award® nominee James Franco ("127 Hours") as the young wizard, Golden Globe® nominee Mila Kunis ("Black Swan") as the witch Theodora, Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz ("The Constant Gardener") as Kunis' sister Evanora and two-time Oscar®-nominated actress Michelle Williams ("Brokeback Mountain," "Blue Valentine") as Glinda, the Good Witch.

The cast also includes Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee Zach Braff ("Scrubs," "Garden State"), who will play Franco's circus assistant as well as lend his vocal talents to one of the CGI creatures in the story — Finley, the winged monkey who accompanies the magician on his journey to Oz; and 12-year-old actress Joey King ("Ramona and Beezus"), who will voice another CGI character in the story, China Girl, who also joins the future Wizard on his excursion through Oz.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

The film will be produced by industry veteran Joe Roth, along with executive producers Grant Curtis (the "Spider-Man" trilogy, "Drag Me to Hell"), Philip Steuer ("The Chronicles of Narnia" series) and Palak Patel. The screenplay was written by Mitchell Kapner, ("The Whole Nine Yards") and David Lindsay-Abaire ("Rabbit Hole," "Robots").

Raimi has assembled his own band of technical wizards and movie magicians on the project, which includes cinematographer Peter Deming ("Mulholland Dr.," "Drag Me to Hell"), two-time Academy Award®–winning production designer Robert Stromberg ("Alice in Wonderland," "Avatar"), Oscar®-winning film editor Bob Murawski ("The Hurt Locker," the "Spider-Man" trilogy), veteran Oscar®-nominated costume designer Gary Jones ("Spider-Man 2," "The Talented Mr. Ripley"), visual effects Oscar® winner Scott Stokdyk ("Spider-Man 2," "Spider-Man") and Academy Award®–winning special makeup artist Howard Berger ("The Chronicles of Narnia" series), who will create the looks of several of the unique denizens of Oz, including creatures such as the Whimsies, the Tinkers and the Winkies, as well as the ghastly look of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Production on "Oz The Great and Powerful" will take place entirely on site at the new Raleigh Michigan Studios, the 200,000 square foot sound stage facility in Pontiac, Michigan, once the location of General Motors' Centerpoint business campus and truck manufacturing plant.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" will be released through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on March 8, 2013.

SYNOPSIS

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker head up an all-star reunion of the explosive Fast franchise set in sultry Rio de Janeiro. "Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father" Filming January 3rd

Fiore Films, an independent production company, today announced that "GOTTI: In The Shadow Of My Father" will begin principal photography on-location in New York on January 3, with pre-production starting in September.

Academy Award®-winning director Barry Levinson and Academy Award®-nominated writer James Toback, the same team that made "Bugsy" which earned ten Academy Award® nominations, are completing a revised version of the original screenplay. Levinson is set to direct the all-star cast that includes John Travolta, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Kelly Preston.

Fiore Films expects to announce the casting of John Gotti, Jr., within the next few weeks. There has been much speculation surrounding who will be cast in the co-starring role opposite Travolta. Other roles to be cast include daughter Victoria Gotti.

Fiore Films acquired life rights from John Gotti, Jr., the son of the late mob boss John Gotti, to the story of his life with his father. The deal marks the first time a member of the Gotti family has entered into an agreement to tell their story for a major motion picture.

"GOTTI: In The Shadow Of My Father" reveals the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself. Never before has there been such an inside look at the life of the Gotti family and their world of danger, betrayal and redemption.

33 Trapped Chilean Miners Climb To The Big Screen

Academy Award-nominated producer Mike Medavoy and representatives of the 33 Chilean Miners, whose remarkable rescue from the San José Mine last year captivated the world’s attention, jointly announced today that they have entered into an agreement to bring the miners' extraordinary story to the screen. Academy Award-nominated screenwriter José Rivera (MOTORCYCLE DIARIES) is set to adapt. The film will recount the events surrounding the mine's collapse and the subsequent rescue efforts, which culminated in the emotional retrieval of all 33 miners after 69 days trapped half a mile beneath the surface.

“Like millions of people around the world, I was completely engrossed watching the rescue at Copiapó. At its heart, this is a story about the triumph of the human spirit and a testament to the courage and perseverance of the Chilean people. I can't think of a better story than this one to bring to the screen,” said Medavoy.

“One year after the collapse of the mine, we consider this to be a great step towards the realization of a film based on our experience in the mine. This is the only official and authorized film about what we lived in the San José mine. Much of our story has never been told,” said miner Juan Andrés Illanes.

Mike Medavoy and Edward McGurn, Medavoy’s Vice-President at Phoenix Pictures, will produce through Medavoy’s recently formed Half Circle banner. Prominent Chilean entrepreneurs Carlos Eugenio Lavín and Leopoldo Enriquez will Executive Produce. Lavin is a childhood friend of Medavoy's from his years in Chile, and Enriquez is a long time associate. Medavoy was born in Shanghai, China in 1941 and lived in Chile from 1947 to 1957.

Medavoy recently produced Martin Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley and Max Von Sydow. Medavoy also produced last year’s critically acclaimed BLACK SWAN, directed by Darren Aronofsky, which won numerous awards, including the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actress for Natalie Portman.

Medavoy and the team at Phoenix Pictures, which includes Arnie Messer, Brad Fischer, David Thwaites and Douglas McKay, start production on July 26th on WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING for Lionsgate, directed by Kirk Jones and starring Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, and a host of other stars. Thwaites is handling onset production on the project and McKay is co-producing.

In parallel to the film, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Héctor Tobar is writing the official book on the miners’ story, using never before divulged details, including material from the diary of miner Víctor Segovia, written during his time underground, which has being kept strictly under wraps up to this point.

The 33 miners are represented by WME and the law firm of Arent Fox in the United States and Carey y Cía in Chile. José Rivera is represented by ICM.

Production on the film is scheduled to start in 2012.

Judge Dredd Takes Over Empire Magazine

I don't know why they are making another Judge Dredd flick but here I am writing about it, again. I will say that these photos and the previous couple that have been revealed look miles better than what we witnessed win the Rocky Stallone version. These shots present a much more realistic and gritty tone, not all that original since a lot of these others reboots are doing the same thing, but better than the glossy look we were treated with during the Rambo Balboa run.

We already saw a "The Amazing Spider-Man" poster thanks to SDCC but it was a shot of suit from the back, this one is a similar shot, but it is from the front. So in other words, still not very original, nor is it very exciting. However, it is supposed to be a teaser poster, and dammit, it teases Spider-Man.

"Man Of Steel" Photos & Videos: Cavill Out Of Hiding

Breaking news to fandom that Henry Cavill finally had come out of hiding and made an appearance at SDCC but alas, it wasn't to talk Superman. Cavill was in attendance to talk shop at "The Immortals" panel. According to the LA Times he adores the "Man Of Steel" script. Shocker.

"It's one of the best scripts I've ever read. I'm quite humbled by the whole experience and can't wait to get started."

That's great, and I am sure the script is good, but what is the guy going to say? "The script is just medicore, you shit Goyer. You too Jonahthan Nolan or whatever the hell your name is."

Collider was also able to catch up with Cavill, and in light of the geeked up Garfield showing up in a fan inspired costume at "The Amazing Spider-Man" panel, they had an interesting question for him:

COLLIDER: While he was at Comic-Con, Andrew Garfield spoke about the awesome responsibility of stepping into the Spider-Man costume. Are you thinking about that with Superman?

CAVILL: It's very humbling to be chosen to represent such an enormous character with so much depth to it as well, but at the same time, it's a true honor. I want to do justice to the character and I want to be the right guy for the job. I want to prove them right, much like Zeus.
