Mad Mel Is At It Again!

If Hollywood can find it deep in the bottom of its heart to embrace child-molesters and brutal dictators, is there any room left for a bigot like Mel Gibson?

Warner Brothers says, "Why of course!" thinking like any smart studio about their bottom-line and the chance that stirring up controversy will up ticket-sales. Also they probably had their accountants look up Gibson's directorial track-record and saw the guy makes people a lot of money. And that, at the end of the day, is what it's all about in showbiz, is it not?

As per "TOLDJA," Gibson is collaborating with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (Where's he been in the last decade?) on a historical epic centering on Judah Maccabee, the Jewish warrior whose heroism, along with his father and brothers, is celebrated every year during Hanukkah for leading the crusade against the Greek-Syrian Empire.

It's the kind of story you can imagine Gibson, the Academy-Award winning filmmaker, getting behind. It also goes without saying why this is going to piss off a lot of people. Rightfully so, let's be honest. This morning, Peter was commenting on how this sounds like his way of winning back the Jewish community. Possible, but in his defense, he's been talking about telling this story for years. I vividly remember reading about this on Dark Horizons, back around 2005. God love him, but Garth doesn't remember.

South Park really hit the nail with the hammer. Mel Gibson, the man, has real problems. But Gibson, the director, knows how to tell a damn good story.

David Twohy Plots The Leonardo Job

David Twohy was hot shit for 5 minutes when people thought Riddick was cool after 'Pitch Black', then 'The Chronicles of Riddick' bombed and he's barely been heard from since except to say he's sure he can get another Riddick movie made, and to knock out B movie thriller 'A Perfect Getaway' in 2009.

Anyway I'll always give him credit as a writer for his work on 'The Fugitive' and 'Waterworld', and now news has arrived from Comingsoon.net via Alcon Entertainment that he has a new project in the works.

Alcon Entertainment announced today that it is in final negotiations to develop The Leonardo Job from a screenplay by David Twohy (Pitch Black) with Twohy attached to direct as well. The plot is officially described as follows:

An action thriller about the heist of the "lost" Leonardo da Vinci painting "The Battle of Anghiari"; the story involves two rival master thieves hired to go to Florence to track down the "mythical" painting. These experts use high tech and old tricks to prove the painting exists and pinpoint its location – hidden behind another masterpiece. They are forced to combine skills when their schemes to steal the painting get more complicated and dangerous after they discover they are not the only ones pursuing the hidden treasure.

Michael Nathanson, Joseph Farrell and Catherine Paura will produce along with Johnson and Kosove.

I love me a heist movie and this sounds like a cool concept for one, but it will all come down to the quality of actors Twohy can get for the roles of the two master thieves.

Michelle Monaghan Takes Penthouse North

I really like Michelle Monaghan; have ever since 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang'. She needs to be in more movies and she's just signed on to a new thriller that sounds like it's taking elements from other thrillers. She'll be going up against the dude that played Batman a couple of decades ago.

The Hollywood Reporter has the full scoop!

Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan will star in Penthouse North, a psychological thriller being directed by Joseph Ruben.

Lionsgate is handling foreign sales for the thriller and is shopping it in Toronto. The pic will begin production in Canada’s capital, Ottawa, in November.

Jeff Sackman, Michael Baker and Jon Shiffman are producing, as is Ruben, who has made a career helming thrillers ranging from The Forgotten to Sleeping with the Enemy to Dreamscape.

David Loughery, who wrote the thrillers Obsessed and Lakeview Terrace, penned Penthouse and is also producing.

The plot centers on a photojournalist (Monaghan) haunted by a tragic event who has escaped from the world in an upscale New York penthouse. The world comes after her with a vengeance in the form of a smooth but sadistic criminal (Keaton) looking for a hidden fortune, with the woman mustering her inner strength to survive.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception TV Spot

When I played Uncharted II I basically felt like I was playing the greatest summer action blockbuster never made, now it is time for the third installment in the popular and successful series, exclusive to PS3.

This new TV spot is mostly filled with footage seen in the E3 trailer, including the shots of Nate Drake fighting a guy on a cargo plane that clearly took it's influence from the Bond movie 'The Living Daylights'.

However it's the all new spectacular final shot that will have fans excited! check it out below.

New Pics From Machine Gun Preacher

The trailer for Machine Gun Preacher really took me by surprise, and now Comingsoon.net has three exclusive new images from the movie.

This could well be Gerard Butler's defining moment as his career has treaded water after his breakout role in Zack Snyder's 300.

Opening in theaters on September 23, Machine Gun Preacher is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children.

When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region's vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it's most needed—in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.

But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA's intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives—and eventually his own.

Bruce Wayne And Selina Kyle Out On The Town

Most of what we have seen from the set pics of the filming of The Dark Knight Rises has involved carnage and action, but here we appear to have a scene with billionaire Bruce Wayne and socialite Selina Kyle taking a night away from the action, maybe for a date?

Just Jared got the pics.

Breakfast At Gothamy's!

Ok that's a horrid pun, but Anne Hathaway reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in these pics from the LA set of The Dark Knight Rises. She's clearly in Selina Kyle socialite mode in these pics, and given what we've heard, Nolan is really investing a lot of movie time into Selina/Catoman's story.

Celebuzz nabbed the pics below along with several more.

The Rum Diary Poster

Johnny Depp can do no wrong and the poster for his next movie has arrived via Yahoo! movies. I have to say this is one of the more inventive posters I've seen this year.

Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, journalist Paul Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, The San Juan Star, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman. Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault, the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson. Sanderson, a businessman involved in shady property development deals, is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen's financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.

One for the Money Poster

Moviefone has the first poster for Katherine Heigl's new action comedy which essentially sounds like the crappy Jennifer Anistion/Gerard Butler movie 'The Bounty Hunter', only with the roles reversed.

Adapting a best-selling book for the big screen doesn't always guarantee you a box office hit (see: 'One Day'), but, at the very least, it provides a built-in audience. Enter 'One for the Money,' based on the popular book by author Janet Evanovich. Starring Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum, the film is about an unemployed lingerie buyer (Heigl) who goes to work for her cousin, a bail bondsmen. She eventually finds herself going after Joe Morelli (Jason O'Mara), a former lover now accused of murder. Twist!
