Justin Lin Says of ‘Terminator’ Exit: “I’ll Be Back.”

Two weeks ago, news broke that director Justin Lin (Fast Five) had been forced to leave the new Terminator film due to hit commitment to direct the next Fast & Furious (Fast Six).  Lin had long been attached to direct the next entry in the sci-fi franchise with Arnold Schwarzenegger once again attached to star.

A couple days ago though, Lin sat down with the LA Times to discuss his exit from the project along with his personal feelings towards the franchise, as well as news that he will shoot both Fast Six and Fast Seven back-to-back.

On his decision to put his Terminator involvement on hold to work on the next Fast & Furious:

“Creatively, I’ve had to put some stuff on hold and walk away from some projects that I’d really love to do, but this is an opportunity for me and for us to close out the franchise the right way,” Lin said of the car films. “It comes with a price but it’s something that I look forward to.”

On his personal connection towards the Terminator franchise:

“Those first two ‘Terminator’ films, we have such a strong connection to it and there’s always a desire to revisit anything that can cause us to feel like that. Being someone who really holds that sacred, I feel like there is a way of continuing that journey. Also with the time travel and canon there’s a version there that you can do right. For me, there’s still some characters and themes that were kind of promised and exhibited in those movies that we have never actually seen. Those are things that got me excited about potentially trying to crack all of that.”

On his hopes to return to the Terminator project as well as his meetings with Schwarzenegger and James Cameron:

“The timing for that is a little bit off [in the distance] but the good thing is it doesn’t feel like creatively it’s been compromised,” Lin said. “I don’t think anyone is trying to hurry anything. I’m hopeful it will work out but at the same time I’m going to be hard on that film if I get a chance to make it. With that franchise, that’s what it deserves. I remember growing up and watching the first ‘Terminator’ films and they defined my youth in many ways. That’s something I want to try to seek out and recapture.”

“On a filmmaker level,” Lin said, “to be able to sit in a room with Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron and be able to talk it through and kick ideas around, that’s been priceless already.”

On having Arnold Schwarzenegger set to star even though the former Governor is coming up on his 65th birthday”

“There is a way to do that. I don’t want to give anything away but I have a very clear idea thematically and arc-wise where we can go,” Lin said. “Again, it’s been just great to throw that around with James and Arnold. Is time our enemy? Well, there is a ticking clock but anytime anything goes into development — with the state of filmmaking and the way films get made — you’re always fighting for more time. The biggest enemy is rushing things. I don’t think it should be rushed. Creatively, it will come when it comes. Passion is always the currency and it’s the thing that will create momentum. If that’s not there you shouldn’t do it. Obviously, there’s a lot of money involved and with that money the clock is going to keep ticking.”

Finally, on his willingness to leave the project if it’s not coming together how he sees fit:

“I do hold such a strong admiration for it that if it’s not really coming together in the right way, I don’t really want to partake in anything like that,” Lin said. “That’s a great way to approach it creatively. And to be able to work with people who are passionate, especially with Arnold and James. It’s such a big part of who they are and to be able to have that conversation and try to up the ante, you can’t ask for anything better.”

Personally, I hope Lin gets to make his Terminator film.  The guy seems a hell of lot more passionate, genuine, and let’s face it, talented, then any of the hacks that have come before him who have wanted to follow in James Cameron’s footsteps.  Let’s hope he gets his chance.

The Batwing (?) Videos!

As hoped diligent Batfans in LA caught the bat vehicles in action last night. The first video of the aerial vehicle being "flown" through the city on wires is by Red Skull from the SuperheroHype message boards.

The lengths Nolan has went to in order to shoot as much in camera as possible is truly awesome, I can't wait to see a full trailer with a shot of this thing in action.

TDKR Los Angeles Set Pics

It's been a busy day on the TDKR set in LA for Christopher Nolan and his crew, word is they wont stop filming until 5am as well. All the vehicles have been out to play including Bruce Wayne's Lamborghini, and it was on a rig so it looks like it may be involved in the chase they are shooting

Hopefully there will be Batpod and Batwing (or whatever it's called) footage later., but for now the good folks over at the SuperheroHype message boards grabbed these pics.

Hugh Jackman and Jimmy Fallon Go to War

While promoting Real Steel last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Hugh Jackman and Jimmy had some fun by regressing to the age of six playing a game of "War", the craziness made even more complete when the winner of each hand got to nearly drown the other with water thrown out of glasses, pitchers, and finally...a water cannon.  The result was quite hilarious:

So who said promoting a movie had to be boring?  Real Steel opens in theaters today.

Amy Adams Looks Like Amy Adams In "Man Of Steel"

Some shots of Amy Adams have surfaced courtesy of The Daily Mail. As you can see by the below photos the lovely Adams likes hot beverages and her boots were made for acting. It's ossible that these shots were snapped between takes on set, or she is just merely walking through town getting stalked.

Her hair looks like it has even more red tint to it. Her look doesn't scream Lois Lane to me, but as we've been told eleventeen times, "Lois has had red hair in the comics". As soon as the movie drops she will most likely become the blueprint for Lois going forward, both in follow up films and maybe television and the comics.

New "Human Centipede 2" Poster

Written and directed once again by Tom Six, the sequel focuses on Martin, a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his mother in a bleak housing project. He works the night shift as a security guard in an equally grim and foreboding underground parking complex. To escape his dreary existence, Martin loses himself in the fantasy world of the cult horror film The Human Centipede (First Sequence)], fetishizing the meticulous surgical skills of the gifted Dr. Heiter, whose knowledge of the human gastrointestinal system inspires Martin to attempt the unthinkable.

Trailer For The Raven

Wow! This one left me stunned. I wasn't sure what to expect but what I see is a stylish, atmospheric thriller with a hint of a period set "Se7en" about it via Apple Trailers.

"In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who's using Poe's own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster). When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper--part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story. Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe's writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author's help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer's next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it's too late."

First Look Kiefer Sutherland In Drama Series "Touch"

Fox has released this first look at "Touch," a new drama series starring Emmy and Golden Globe winner Kiefer Sutherland. The show is created and written by Emmy-nominated Tim Kring ("Heroes") and will join the Fox schedule in the spring of 2012. "Touch" is a distinctly uplifting drama in which science and spirituality intersect with the hopeful premise that we are all interconnected, tied in invisible ways to those whose lives we are destined to alter and impact.

At the center of "Touch" is Martin Bohm (Sutherland), a widower and single father, haunted by an inability to connect to his mute 11-year-old son, Jake (David Mazouz). After multiple failed attempts at keeping Jake in school, Martin is visited by Clea Hopkins (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a social worker sent to evaluate Jake's well-being. Everything changes when Martin discovers that Jake possesses the gift of staggering genius - the ability to see things that no one else can and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events. Jake is indeed communicating. But it's not with words, it's with numbers. Martin meets Arthur DeWitt (Danny Glover), a professor and an expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers. Now, it's up to Martin to decipher the meaning and connect the numbers to the cast of characters whose lives they affect.

Young Adult Trailer

"Thank You for Smoking", "Juno" and "Up in the Air" - Jason Reitman hasn't let me down yet and here he is reteaming with "Juno" scribe Diablo Cody. However I see none of the breezy charm of the three afore-mentioned films in this trailer.

Coming Soon via iTunes got the trailer:

Paramount has released the trailer for director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody's Young Adult opening December 9 and starring Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt, Patrick Wilson and Elizabeth Reaser.

Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Oswalt) who hasn't quite gotten over high school, either.
