"Johnny X" Promo Clip 5

JOHNNY X Promo Clip 5 from Ottermole on Vimeo.

THE GHASTLY LOVE OF JOHNNY X is a truly mad concoction, blending 1950s sci-fi melodrama, song-and-dance, and a touch of horror – a mesmerizing big screen spectacular! The fun begins as Johnny X and his misfit gang of juvenile delinquents from outer space are sentenced to Earth where “ghastly” is the word!

With highly stylized musical numbers, tons of genuinely humorous dialogue and wacky plot twists, JOHNNY X is the only sci-fi dark comedy musical romance you need to see this year! Beautifully photographed on the last of Kodak’s 35mm black and white Plus X film stock, the cast includes sexy new stars Will Keenan and De Anna Joy Brooks, as well as seasoned professionals Creed Bratton (The Office), Reggie Bannister (Phantasm), Kate Maberly (The Secret Garden), Paul Williams (Phantom of the Paradise) and the late Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) in his final role.

"Pray For Japan" Official Trailer

On March 11, 2011, Japan’s Tohoku coastal region was destroyed by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and devastating tsunami that followed.  PRAY FOR JAPAN takes place in the devastated region of Ishinomaki, Miyagi – the largest coastal city in Tohoku with a population of over 160,000 people. Filmmaker Stu Levy – an American living in Japan - filmed the tsunami aftermath during his trips to Tohoku as a volunteer and over a period of 6 weeks, captured over 50 hours of footage.

PRAY FOR JAPAN focuses on four key perspectives of the tragedy – School, Shelter, Family, and Volunteers. With each perspective we meet victims who faced significant obstacles and fought to overcome them. Through these four vantage points, the audience is able to understand the vast ramifications of this large-scale natural disaster – and the battle these real-life heroes fought on behalf of their loved ones and their hometown.

PRAY FOR JAPAN features an original theme song written and performed by Okuda Tamio, one of the most popular rock musicians in Japan, as well as poetry written by Fukushima poet Ryoichi Wago and read by famed actress Kyoka Suzuki. The opening animation sequence is directed by Hiroshi Nagahama and produced by prolific Japanese animation powerhouse, Studio DEEN.  Post-production services were provided by Q-Tec in Tokyo, Japan.

On March 14th the film will open in the following markets through AMC Theatres: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Orange County (LA), Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Chicago, Houston, San Diego, Washington D.C., Kansas City, Toronto, and Montreal.  Hollywood Theatres will also show the film in Maui, Hawaii. All profits from these screenings will be donated to Japan-based charity Japan Emergency NGO (JEN), who provides assistance to victims of natural disasters, wars, and internal conflicts.

PRAY FOR JAPAN was written and directed by Stu Levy. The film has a running time of 90 minutes and will not be rated by the MPAA.

Official Poster For "Bernie"

In the tiny, rural town of Carthage, TX, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede was one of the town’s most beloved residents.  He taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Everyone loved and appreciated Bernie, so it came as no surprise when he befriended Marjorie Nugent, an affluent widow who was as well known for her sour attitude as her fortune. Bernie frequently traveled with Marjorie and even managed her banking affairs. Marjorie quickly became fully dependant on Bernie and his generosity and Bernie struggled to meet her increasing demands. Bernie continued to handle her affairs, and the townspeople went months without seeing Marjorie. The people of Carthage were shocked when it was reported that Marjorie Nugent had been dead for some time, and Bernie Tiede was being charged with the murder.

In this dark comedy, director Richard Linklater captures all the hilarity, friendliness, eccentricity and absolute strangeness of small-town Texas life.  Jack Black plays Bernie Tiede, Shirley MacLaine plays Mrs. Nugent, and Matthew McConaughey plays the town’s blustery real-life District Attorney, Danny Buck Davidson, who was determined to get to the bottom of the crime.  Co-written by Linklater and Skip Hollandsworth, BERNIE is a Mandalay Vision and Wind Dancer Films production.

A Message From Bob Gale Of The Back to the Future Trilogy

First..the great news (and no, it's not another Back to the Future movie): I'm proud to announce that a complete museum quality restoration of the Back to the Future "A" Car DeLorean is about to begin! As so many fans already know, the various DeLoreans used in the trilogy were designated by letter, based on how detailed they were. The "A" car was the very best of them, and was used in all three films. Unfortunately, after years of being displayed outdoors, the elements took their toll on this very special vehicle, so I successfully spearheaded a campaign to do something about it.

The actual work will be done by three of the biggest BTTF DeLorean fanatics I know: Joe Walser, J Ryan and Terry Matalas, all of whom have been involved in creating picture perfect BTTF DeLorean replicas. (J's car can be seen in one of the special features in the recent BTTF Trilogy Blu-ray.)

You can follow our progress via our Facebook page, as well as on Twitter.

And now, the request for help: I am calling on all fans who either have original parts from any of the DeLoreans from the BTTF Trilogy, or who know of anyone who has such items, to become part of this important project. Please email us at: TimeMachineRestoration@gmail.com

with details. You may have something we need, or you may be able to help us track down something we need. If so, you'll be duly acknowledged as a contributor to the restoration.

Thank you, and onward to the future! — Bob Gale

"The Deep Blue Sea" Trailer

Master chronicler of post-War England, Davies directs Rachel Weisz as a woman whose overpowering, obsessive love alienates the men around her and destroys her well being. The film is an adaptation of British playwright Terence Rattigan's 1952 play.

In a deeply vulnerable performance Weisz is the latest incarnation of Hester Collyer, the wife of a High Court judge (British theatre actor Simon Russell Beale), a free spirit trapped in a passionless marriage. Her encounter with Freddie Page, a troubled former Royal Air Force pilot (Tom Hiddleston, Thor, Midnight in Paris, War Horse, The Avengers) throws her life in turmoil, as their erotic relationship leaves her emotionally stranded and physically isolated. Nearly abandoned by Freddie, Hester attempts to win him back through a desperate gesture. This only serves to estrange her more from the men in her life and reality itself.

Through flashbacks, Terence Davies creates memorable cinematic compositions against the backdrop of post-war England. His signature style includes beautiful tracking shots as well as the use of popular music of the day including Samuel Barber’s majestic Opus for Violin and Orchestra. Besides his two acclaimed semi-autobiographical features Distant Voices, Still Lives and The Long Day Closes, Davies’ films include The House of Mirth, The Neon Bible, and Of Time and the City, his masterful nonfiction exploration of his native city, Liverpool.

THE DEEP BLUE SEA was adapted for the screen and directed by Terence Davies. Produced by Sean O'Connor and Kate Ogborn, the Director of Photography is Florian Hoffmeister, the Production Designer is James Merifield and the Editor is David Charap.

Music Box Films will release THE DEEP BLUE SEA in New York and Los Angeles on March 23, 2012.

Tales From Development Hell is An Enjoyable Read

In the annals of film history for as many movies that get made, there have to be, at least, ten times as many that will never see the light of day. For whatever reason, whether it is budgetary concerns, similarly-themed productions at rival studios, the director butting heads with high-ranking executives, the pervading politics of the time, etc.

Though we'll never know about them all, Tales From Development Hell: The Greatest Movies Never Made?, from author David Hughes, chronicles some infamous cases of unmade movies; the attempts to adapt The Lord of the Rings long before New Line Cinema put their company on the line with Peter Jackson including John Boorman and yes, The Beatles as we’ve all heard, Ridley Scott's Crisis in the Hot Zone and that long awkward period for Batman fans in the aftermath of Batman & Robin but before Christopher Nolan brought the character back to life onscreen.

How do you go from something as ambitious, and awesome-sounding, as Adam Rifkin's Return to the Planet of the Apes to the Tim Burton-helmed "reimagining" in 2001? As often the case, the moment higher-up executives are shown the door; the projects they shepherded tend to meet the same fate. As a lifelong Apes fan, it's fascinating to read of all the ill-fated revival films starting with the afore-mentioned Rifkin iteration in the late 80s, described as "Spartacus with apes" about the descendant of Charlton Heston's Taylor leading a human revolt against the Roman Empire era apes. Right down to the details of its Lawrence of Arabia-inspired teaser trailer. Much as the franchise eventually went back to its glory days with last year’s prequel Rise of the Apes, have to admit I'd love to see the alternative universe to see how Return would have turned out.

Easily my favorite chapter of the book though focuses on Crusade, what was meant to be the reunion of Paul Verhoeven and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Developed in the early 90s in a time when sword-and-scandal epics were a thing of yesteryear, Crusade wasn't exactly a sure thing with its intended brutal violence or political statements against Christians and Muslims. But what it did have was Arnold, still in his mega-star status, in what could have been another iconic role as Hagen, a thief who cons his way into knighthood joining the Crusades. Unfortunately, the $100 million price-tag along with Carolco's financial woes and Arnold beginning to show signs of box-office morality (The Last Action Hero bombed as Crusade was entering pre-production) forced the studio to make a choice. Either make the hard-R rated Crusade or the PG-13 pirate adventure Cutthroat Island. After producing the latter, Carolco went belly up.

Details like that are what to expect over the course of the 272 pages. If this subject matter is your kind of thing, then it's hard pressed to imagine how you won't enjoy this as a causal, Sunday afternoon, lay-around-the-house read. Tales From Development Hell is available now.

Let the Prometheus Viral Marketing Begin

A piece of viral marketing, cleverly disguised as a TED Conference albeit from the year 2023, has surfaced online showcasing our first look at Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland from Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

The "conference" plants the seeds behind the title (If you don't know your Greek mythology) and the usage of androids, such as the one played in the film by Michael Fassbender.

New Avengers Poster Still Begs the Question Who Are They Fighting

Tomorrow, we're expected to get a new trailer. But to hold fans over, Marvel has unveiled a new one-sheet for The Avengers.

As any smart company would do, it's the biggest star of the crop (Robert Downey Jr.) front and center. Just don't ask who or what Iron Man is aiming his repulsor rays at.
