Yep, Looks Like He’ll Be Back - Arnold Schwarzenegger Attached to New Terminator Film

    Disappointment comes to mind.

Since he's left office running California, we've heard plenty of Arnold Schwarzenegger mulling through potential projects for his return to the silver screen. My personal number-one concern was, in order for him gain acceptance from the general public, Arnold would be wise to take on something that while filling his action quota (because yeah who doesn't love to see the guy kick ass?) he also needed to embrace and admit to audiences, and in a way himself, that yes, he's gotten older. He doesn't run as fast as he used to or crack a baddie's skull as easily as in say Total Recall.

So honestly, it's disappointing to hear from "TOLDJA" that Schwarzenegger is now attached to headline a brand-new Terminator film with the previously-rumored Justin Lin (as first broken by What's Playing) to direct. No screenwriter is on-board as of now nor is a studio officially committed to the package deal (although Lionsgate, Sony and Universal are greatly interested).

And you just know the producers will use the lack of Arnold in the much-hyped Terminator: Salvation as the reasoning for its under-performance; something that isn't entirely wrong. But then again how would they justify the "OK, but not great either" box-office of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines that Arnold actually starred in?

I just go back to my main point. After all these years (and how we've seen him age), are people going to want to see Arnold (in his mid-60s by the time this new film would drop) walking around in his signature role once again? More importantly, would they accept it?

I have no problem with Arnold returning to the action genre; it's the fact that he's going back to the same (tired) well again that's the problem. I agree with Jamie on that point. What I want is Arnold to develop new intellectual property that has him playing a 60-year old action hero -- not one who specializes in the super human heroics of yesteryear but one who you could picture a 60 year old action hero being. But developing new I.P. is too taxing for today's Hollywood. It's much easier -- not to mention lazier -- to fall back to one's comfort zone, i.e. Terminator.

@The Zodfather: Just a thought, but how about a sequel to 'Commando', where he'd have to rescue his kidnapped GRANDCHILD?

I think that could actually work, I'm sure they'd be able to get Alyssa Milano back to play his daughter again.

Big terminator fan. So pretty cool news. Hopefully it will be a good film. Curious to see what they will do about it. Also lin is a fine choice for director. But I also read come 2018 the terminator rights may be reverted back to cameron. So I wonder what would happen then.
