    Lobo's Latest Target? Guy Ritchie

I never was that much into Lobo to be honest. As a kid, I mostly remember him being used in the infamous "DC vs. Marvel" comic-book mini-series back in the mid 90s where he faced off against Wolverine with the readers deciding on who won. Not surprisingly, everyone's favorite Canadian mutant won the slug-fest.

A film version of the intergalactic bounty-hunter's exploits has been development over the years. I recall Latino Review doing a video review of the script a few months back - which was interestingly enough pulled not too long after with the update:

"UPDATE AT THE REQUEST OF THE PRODUCERS WE HAVE TAKEN THE VIDEO DOWN SINCE IT REVEALS TOO MUCH, AND YES THE MOVIE IS OFFICIALLY NOW A GO."

Well here is (further) proof of that, ladies and gentleman. Variety reports that Guy Ritchie has been brought on board by producer Joel Silver to direct.

The goal is for filming to start up early next year and with a PG-13 rating in mind. I'm sure the hard-core Lobo fans won't be too jazzed about that decision. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like Silver and Warner Brothers hiring Ritchie is clearly a vote of confidence with the forthcoming Sherlock Homes which they just recently worked on together.

It's also a good sign that the studio is slowly but surely getting off its ass and gearing up more DC Comics-based properties with next year's The Losers and Jonah Hex, Green Lantern and now this. And now, ladies and gentlemen, let the "Dwayne Johnson as Lobo" rumors officially begin...

I can't believe they are moving forward with this flick. I like the character, but really?

MPAA is asinine so with Lobo give the aliens different colored blood, and Lobo has his own built in curses in frag and bastich, and the MPAA will allow tons of violence and cursing in a PG13 flick ;)

I think Ritchie actually fits the material rather well :)

come on..................Lobo? as a superman fan i am insulted.

i am waiting all those years on superman and i will get Lobo?

Another case of WB/DC veering away from Wonder Woman, The Flash, Manhunter and going with, not even 2nd tier, but 3rd tier characters.

At least the DC Fanboys will go to see it.

I'm guessing it will be akin to Hellboy, and I'd put money on Dwayne Johnson or Vin Diesel in the lead role.

As for waiting on Superman, he's had 5 movies already. Granted we're still waiting on the penultimate one,but I have enough to satisfy me for now.

I think this is great news!

@ Mike: The Rock? Seriously?.....We've discussed this before and you know who my pick is. ;) If they're going to cast a pro wrestler for The Main Man, it's gotta be Triple H

I really think Lobo works better in a Superman film.

Lobo doesn't need Supes, he could do just fine in a solo film. Think of films like 'Slither', 'They Live!', 'Ice Pirates', 'Robocop', 'Shoot 'Em Up!', 'Big Trouble In Little China', and the BBC series 'Red Dwarf'.........That's the type of tone that I envision a Lobo movie to have.

@Dan Dwayne Johnson is no longer a pro-wrestler he's an actor and a decent one at that IMO

Dwayne Johnson has become a solid actor, but I would actually have to go with the man who was behind the mask in Zombie's latest installments of Halloween.

I agree, Dwayne Johnson has built up quite the resume, I just was never really a fan of his.

Tyler Mane? Hmm, interesting choice. He's got the height and he did play Saber Tooth in the 1st X-Men movie.

They'll probably cast someone that we've never thought of.

Yep, that would be him. Hearing part of what the story will be, I don't like the inclusion of a teenage girl. WB has the tendency to try dumb down their dark characters and make their bright characters darker.

    True.
As far as the teenage girl is concerned, I believe her name is Kayla and that she is meant to be a 'stand-in' for L.E.G.I.O.N.'s Layla
