More Black Cat News For Spider-Man 4
Wed, November 11, 2009
I’m not against Spider-Man 4. I just don’t know how Sam Raimi and crew are going to be able to win the audience back after the 2007 third installment. Folks (real people and us nerds alike) truly hated that flick. But to their credit, they’re giving it the old college try.
Our pals over at Hey U Guys! have their own set of exclusive info coming days after the reports that Black Cat makes an appearance. As per their source(s), you can expect a Felicia Hardy different from the one comic-fans have been familiar with for years.
Instead of being the daughter of a cat burglar, her daddy will be the new editor of The Daily Bugle who falls for Webhead, discovers his duality and “becomes a threat” after dear old Dad eats a bullet. Doesn’t that basically sound like Elektra in the Daredevil film? Just sayin! And while we’re talking about her editor-in-chief dad, he is said to be a villain with a referral as being “a viper” being the clue. Don’t know any Spider-Man baddies related to snakes – a little help?
If these claims are to be believed (and we’ve known Hey U Guys! since the start of TMT’s conception and like them, so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt), this continues the ever-going copying of the Spider-Man films to the Superman films. Seriously, compare them. It’s interesting how close they match up. And now there could be a new love-interest for Spidey in his new boss’s daughter? Remember Superman IV: The Quest For Peace? Yep, the same plot-point happened there too.
Then again, what does all of this say for Mary Jane? Will she and Peter be splitsville in this one? Might we expect a “Special Appearance by…” credit for Kirsten Dunst?

So they are just dumping Gwen Stacey from the films? Well that worked out well.
And Darren Seeley owes me an apology if this is true:) They're changing Felicia's background and getting a new editor for the Daily Bugle. They are changing those sacred texts and 'adapting' the comics to make their own story, just like the stuff I pitched.
so let me see if i get this right. in 2007 i had to listen for 2 hours MJ bitching and complaining. 4 years later i will have to again listen to her ?
because lets face it this Felicia Hardy character will not make MJ happy. so what does this mean? again Peter Parker crying over the top( Raimi what were you thinking? over the top crying never works in movies. learn from Nolan and Bale)?
if i found out that MJ will agian bitch i will not watch this movie in the theater. enough is enough.
I don't think this has any merit at all (storywise), Phil. The only possible angle is that Hardy sr. is a con-man/thief nicknamed The *Viper* and a hit is put out on him by a more ruthless bad guy. But I'm willing to go with the chance that this was also part of an earlier draft of the script. It should be pointed out that if Hardy Sr. is killed by a gunman, it should be a gunman, be it Kraven, Hammerhead or...whoever. I should remind you that the "changes" I mentioned a few weeks ago would not be extreme ones. HOWEVER, I wonder if it is a bullet. I wonder if that "assassin" is The Vulture. After all, the Toomes Vulture was "very protective" of the name- if someone poses as *The Vulture* (not The Viper- that's most likely something to throw folks off- as Raimi likes to do) then Vulture will target "the imposters" and "the posers".
I do agree w/ Jamie here that a like event happened in Supey IV. So I really don't think it will be the case overall.
There actually was a Serpent Society Gang based in New York City , in the comic Universe. They had villains like Contrictor , Cobra and Diamondback. Doubtful thats what the Viper clue means , but you never know.
