Summit's Divergent To Be Released March 21, 2014

Summit Entertainment announced today that its upcoming adaptation of Veronica Roth's Divergent will be released theatrically in North America on Friday, March 21, 2014.

Divergent is a thrilling adventure centered around the monumental choice of deciding who you are and discovering who you can be. Set in a future where America is divided into five ideological factions to stabilize society and uphold peace, every citizen must choose a permanent faction at age 16 - either their own or another. Struggling to survive her initiation into the most aggressive and physically demanding of the factions, Beatrice Prior must uncover her true hidden strengths and risk her family, her new found love, and her very own life to defuse a mysterious conspiracy which could change the balance of power forever.

The young adult novel was written by 23-year-old first time author Veronica Roth and has topped The New York Times Best Sellers list ever since being published in May of 2011 by Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins Publishers. The book was written by Roth while she was earning her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University. She followed her first novel with the book Insurgent, which has also made its way to the #1 position on specific New York Times Best Sellers lists. To date, both novels have sold nearly 1.5 million copies outpacing sales of "The Twilight Saga" novels at the same point in their literary lifespans.

The screenplay for the film is being written by Evan Daugherty with a filmmaker soon to be announced. The studio acquired the film rights to the novel in early 2011 several months before the book "Divergent" was published. Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher will produce the film via their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian.

"Nature Calls" Red Band Trailer Featuring Patton Oswalt & Johnny Knoxville

Oswalt stars as Scoutmaster Randy Stevens, whose dwindling, apathetic troop ditches a scout meeting in favor of a TV-themed slumber party hosted by Randy’s brother Kirk (Knoxville), his polar opposite and arch nemesis. When Randy rounds up the boys in the middle of the night, stealing them for an highly unauthorized/unorganized trip to the woods, all hell breaks loose as Kirk pursues with a pair of gun-toting employees (Riggle and O’Neal). Drinking, nudity, mishandled fireworks and tremendously inappropriate behavior around minors ensues, in the grand tradition of comedy classics like The Bad News Bears and Meatballs.

"Transformers 4" June 27th 2014 With New Robot Cast

You can say what you want about the Transformers franchise and Michael Bay, but they go together like wine and cheese. Big money, big action, everything you want in a summer blockbuster. Sure, all three movies are pretty much the same, but tell that to the general public who are eating these CGI robots up like a cheeseburger at 2am after drinking your face off.

Of course the studio would be crazy not to make more of these films and Brian Goldner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hasbro, certainly agrees. He showed off a placeholder logo for the new film in the series, you can view below.

The big wig also let it be known that there will be a new cast of robots, their idea that it will sell more merchandise, something Transformers: Dark Of The Moon failed to do. As long as these flicks are vomiting money and puts asses in the seats, the franchise could pretty much go on forever. That is a scary thought.

I wonder what they'll call this installment? Transformers: The New Batch? Transformers: Cash Rules Everything Around Me? Transformers: Because We Can?

Freestyle Releasing Acquires U.S. Theatrical Rights To "Jinn"

Freestyle Releasing has acquired the domestic theatrical rights to JINN, a tension filled supernatural thriller from Detroit-based Exxodus Pictures. The film, written and directed by Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad, was produced by Ahmad and Benjamin Dresser, and stars Ray Park ("Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace"), Faran Tahir ("Iron Man", "Star Trek"), William Atherton ("Die Hard", "Ghostbusters"), Serinda Swan (A & E's "Breakout Kings"), and Dominic Rains ("Flight 93"). Richard Mandell, Najam Syed and Shahid Syed executive produced the film for Exxodus. A release date for the film will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.

The amazing story of JINN involves ancient mythological creatures who have never been seen in U.S. cinemas before. The premise of the jinn concept, known to over 1 billion people around the world, involves supernatural entities and revolves around creation mythology: In the beginning, three were created; man made of clay; angels made of light; and a third...made of fire. They are powerful due to their existence in a parallel world, and also because they have free will and can be both good and evil.

The film has already generated a lot of early attention online, as the teaser trailer and links to other related material have generated over 2.5 million combined hits. JINN is also unique in that the hero vehicle used in the film, known as the "Firebreather," was designed by the director and is the first vehicle in motion picture history available to the public for purchase. The "Firebreather" is a V8, 618 horsepower super exotic American muscle car with 50 limited editions being produced as the exact replica of the vehicle in the film. The car, several of which have already been sold, was designed by Exxodus Pictures to honor the Detroit automotive industry by creating a modern vehicle with the soul of classic American muscle.

The distribution deal was negotiated by Freestyle's Co-President Mark Borde, Head of Acquisitions Chris Charalambous and Richard Mandell and Najam Syed from Exxodus Pictures.

"The Exxodus team and I are very excited to be working with Freestyle Releasing on the film, especially with their experience and delivery model.  They understand the originality of the jinn concept and its franchise potential, and will definitely market the concept to North American movie going audiences while retaining its authenticity to people already familiar with the idea," said Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad.

"We are happy to be distributing a film that will introduce North American audiences to an entirely new, entirely different supernatural concept, and I know that our team is excited to get this movie out to the public," said Freestyle's Borde.

Freestyle Releasing is responsible for distributing some of the most successful independent films, including THE ILLUSIONIST, THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY and AN AMERICAN HAUNTING.  Freestyle's recent slate of releases includes the critically-acclaimed Filipino horror-thriller THE ROAD from director Yam Laranas, along with TOMORROW, WHEN THE WAR BEGAN directed by Stuart Beattie, which also marked the first feature film to debut digitally on Facebook.  Upcoming theatrical titles for Freestyle include YOU MAY NOT KISS THE BRIDE starring Katharine McPhee and Rob Schneider.

"Thor: The Dark World" Set Photos

I've never been a huge fan of Thor as a character, but I was pleasantly surprised with the the first film. Chris Hemsworth really did well with the hammer and cape and certainly elevated his likeability himself in The Avengers.

It still amazes me how fast Marvel is churning these films out under their own name with a little help from Disney. Combine that with what other studios are doing with Marvel properties and DC seems to be stuck on their first lap with only Batman as their go-to hero.

I know our very own Jamie Williams is hoping that there is a topless scene involving one Kat Dennings in the sequel. Maybe the director's cut Jamie. Until then he'll have to enjoy three of the large amount of Thor: The Dark World set photos courtesy of SuperHeroHype
