Orlando Bloom To Return as Legolas In The Hobbit?

The hot rumour from Toldya! is that Orlando Bloom is returning to the role that made him famous! yes he is apparently in the final stage of negotiations to reprise his role as Elf archer Legolas in the long awaited "The Hobbit."

Legolas is not in the actual book but neither is Galadriel and that hasn't stopped Cate Blanchett all but being confirmed as reprising said role, Toldya! also notes that the Legolas appearance is not merely a cameo.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Trailer

Wow, a Michael Bay trailer laced with atmosphere and suspense rather than explosions and action? Shocking stuff.

I was not a fan of Revenge of the Fallen but maybe...just maybe, this final part of the trilogy can redeem things, check out the trailer HERE!

    Sanctum Poster!

The James Cameron produced underwater survival film now has a poster courtesy of Universal via Comingsoon.com.

It give off a b movie video case from the 90's vibe to me but with Cameron's name attached the film will no doubt make some coin.

    Source Code Trailer

Duncan Jones debut "Moon" was a critical hit and for many viewed as a hit in the arm for sci fi, now the trailer for his sophomore effort "Source Code" is online.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga, "Source Code" is a sci fi thriller that in many ways uses a twist on the whole time travel concept. From the trailer it looks like the film has seen a bit of humanizing since the script but the tense time sensitive thriller aspect seems in tact.

"Source Code" Opens April 15th 2011 and you can check the trailer out below.

    The Mechanic Trailer

The trailer has arrived for the Jason Statham hit-man thriller "The Mechanic," directed by Simon "Con Air" West; it's a remake of an old Charles Bronson movie and judging from the trailer it appears to have taken some liberties with the plot.

What it does look like is a very slick action film that is more streamlined than many of today's CGI heavy fantasy action films, it is also boosted by the fact the talented Ben Foster will be playing Statham's understudy, a role played in the original by the guy who flew the chopper in Airwolf.

It certainly isn't a character study of an assassin by any means but for those missing the kind of straight up action films of the 90's this will tick some boxes.

"The Mechanic" Opens January 28th, 2011 and you can see the trailer below.

Colin Farrell To Gain Total Recall

According to the Trades former hard drinking ladies man and damn good actor Colin Farrell has been offered the lead role in the Len Wiseman adaption of Phillip K. Dick's "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" which is better known under the name "Total Recall" which was the name of the original movie adaption of the story starring Arnie and directed by Paul Verhoeven.

Here's a synopsis of the short story: (Wiki)

Douglas Quail, a simple and ordinary man, wishes to visit Mars. Unable to afford it, he visits a company, Rekal, Incorporated, that offers implanted memories ("extra-factual memory"). The attempt to implant some racy Mars memories of Quail as a secret agent reveals that Quail actually is an undercover government assassin with a mind full of dangerous secrets. The Rekal staff quickly get Quail out of their office; he heads home and finds certain physical evidence to support his new old memories. The government initially seeks his death but instead Quail manages to make a deal. He returns to Rekal to have his Mars memories once more suppressed, and is offered by way of compensation a set of heroic wish-fulfillment false memories. The Rekal staff begin the memory-implanting procedure — and uncover a different and older set of suppressed memories revealing that the unbelievable memories they are about to insert are already there and are true.

Personally I am all for a fresh adaption, I enjoyed the Verhoeven version in all it's garish and ultra violent action packed darkly satirical glory, but it's dated, a last vestige of the 80's if you will (It was released in 1990).

Wiseman is a director who's style I like and I thought he did a great job with Live Free or Die Hard; A more high tech espionage version of Dick's classic sci fi story is a chance for him to up his reputation further and nabbing Farrell as his lead is an excellent start.

Farrell was hot stuff in Hollywood in the early part of the decade but after a couple of flops and the birth of his son he settled down and ditched the wild lifestyle and Hollywood circuit to concentrate of being a father. He continued his acting in smaller movies and garnered critical praise for his work, not least in swearathon black comedy "In Bruges," Total Recall is potentially the kind of smart action blockbuster to get him back at the top table of A list actors.

Friends With Benefits Red Band Trailer

There's been a few rom com trailers dropped in the last couple of days but this one looks the best of the bunch, or maybe I am being corrupted by it's red bandness!

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis star as the friends with benefits in what looks like a genuinely funny sex comedy that finds a humorous way to incorporate JT's singing while featuring the kind of line from Patricia Clarkson that ever guy wants to hear from a hot girls mom.

"Friends With Benefits" opens on the 22nd of July 2011 and you can check out the trailer below.

    Trio Of New Trailers!

First up we have "just Go With It" starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.......ok for those of you that haven't already scrolled away (Yes BOTH of you!) this is not quite as lame as it could be, the trailer shows Aniston playing a different rom com character than her usual one as the pretend wife of Sandler's character who is using her to try and get Brooklyn Decker, no signs that in the end he gets with Aniston but don't be surprised if that is where this ends up.

Next up is the Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher rom com "No Strings Attached." Now this does a spot of role reversal where Kutcher's character is a player who is best friends with Portman's character and she comes up with the idea of them basically being fuck buddies, but of course you know that wont work out.

It's interesting that Portman's character seems to be in the mould of the role that would usually be the guy, but the fact Kutcher is in this kills my interest stone dead.

Last up we have something a bit more sophisticated for those who prefer their Oscar hopefuls to the rom com fluff. "The Way Back" is based on a true story about a group of escapees from a Siberian gulag in 1940. The film is basically their epic journey to freedom after they have escaped and it all looks very grand and worthy. Colin Farrell, Ed Harris and and Saoirse Ronan head up the cast.
