"As I Lay Dying" Poster Featuring James Franco

Directed by Oscar-nominated James Franco from a screenplay by James Franco and Matt Rager, As I Lay Dying is adapted from the 1930 classic American novel by William Faulkner. The story chronicles the Bundren family as they traverse the Mississippi countryside to bring the body of their deceased mother Addie to her hometown for burial. Addie’s husband Anse and their children, Cash, Darl, Jewel, Dewey Dell, and the youngest one Vardaman, leave the farm on a carriage with her coffin - each affected by Addie’s death in a profound and different way. Their road trip to Jefferson, some forty miles away, is disrupted by every antagonistic force of nature or man: flooded rivers, injury and accident, a raging barn fire, and not least of all -- each individual character’s personal turmoil and inner commotion which at times threaten the fabric of the family more than any outside force.

Could Christopher Nolan's Syncopy Be The Next Legendary Pictures?

There is a "whole lotta' shakin' going on" over at The Brothers Warner. Even Batman can no longer protect the studio that seemed without weakness the past decade plus. Jeff Robinov has exited his post as Warner Brothers Pictures Group President while Kevin Tsujihara has been appointed Warner Bros CEO & Chairman. On top of that Thomas Tull, founder and CEO of Legendary Pictures, has broken off talks with Warner Bros. which could result in the dissolution of Hollyweird's most lucrative film partnerships.

Legendary has co-financed most all of WB's biggest hits since signing a deal with the studio to co-produce and co-finance up to 40 films over seven years in 2005. The company that teamed up with WB to bring Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel and The Hangover, is now looking for other options. According to DEADLINE Tull has made his choice to replace Warner Bros and the winner is Comcast/NBC Universal. Although, there is always a possibility that another suitor could sweep Tull off his feet at the last minute.

Where does Legendary's exit from Burbank leave Warner Bros? The answer could lie with WB Golden Boy Christopher Nolan. It's possible that Syncopy could be positioning itself to be the next Legendary. The production company has partnered with Legendary to product Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Man Of Steel, and the upcoming Interstellar. Warner Bros obviously wants to be in business with Christopher Nolan, the studio gave Paramount the rights to co-finance the next Friday the 13th as well as its piece of a possible future South Park movie.

Syncopy being the sole co-financier & co-producer on some of Warner Bros' biggest future films could be a step in the right direction to keeping Nolan in Burbank for years to come.

Russell Crowe Would Star In "Man Of Steel" Prequel So Stop Asking

Facebook is for people to complain and Twitter gives people a chance to be awesome. I am really tired of going on Facebook to witness people crying about being lonely or sad because they didn't have steak sliders at Applebees. That is why I tend to favor Twitter. Better entertainment value and for some an easier outlet to annoy celebs.

Russell Crowe did a solid job in Man Of Steel as Kal-El's Kryptonian father Jor-El. My guess is that the studio would want to use him in a cameo for a possible Man Of Steel sequel. Maybe a floating head like Marlon Brando? For some reason the Twitter universe believes that The Brothers Warner would want to do a prequel and keep harassing Crowe about starring in it.

"A lot of you are asking about a KRYPTON prequel, if that's something you feel strongly about let @Legendary pictures know your thoughts,"

"Just getting sick of reading the same question mate, however, if it came up, i'd give the tights another go."

Why would the general public, or even fans for that matter, want to see a Superman film without Superman? No thanks. Some "hyperbolics" already claim that Man Of Steel didn't feature Superman, so I wouldn't think that this would be a good idea.

Probably shouldn't keep asking him either Twitter nerds, I think he's had enough. Just let him ride bikes and enjoy his life.

Wolfe Releasing Nabs Four Films At Frameline 37

Wolfe Releasing, the world’s largest exclusive distributor of gay and lesbian films, has acquired the US and Canadian rights to three films screening at Frameline 37 - San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival: Bruno Barreto’s REACHING FOR THE MOON (winner of Frameline’s Audience Award), Director Yen Tan’s PIT STOP and Director Stephan Lacant’s FREE FALL, and worldwide rights (excluding UK, France & Germany) to Writer/Director Chris Mason Johnson’s TEST.

“These are four of the best LGBT movies of the year,” said Wolfe President Maria Lynn, adding, “REACHING FOR THE MOON is an exquisite English-language production depicting the Brazilian heyday of Pulitzer Prize-winning lesbian poet Elizabeth Bishop; TEST is an astute and beautiful drama about a young modern dancer navigating gay life in San Francisco during the early days of the AIDS crisis; FREE FALL has been called the German Brokeback for its deeply moving portrayal of a German policeman who unexpectedly begins to fall in love with a fellow male officer and PIT STOP shows us a story we simply have not seen before, observing the dreams and desires of two small-town gay men with subtlety and grace.”

Director Bruno Barreto’s (Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, View From the Top) tale of a messy, yet gloriously romantic, relationship follows poet Elizabeth Bishop (Miranda Otto, The Lord of the Rings trilogy) as she sets sail for Rio de Janeiro and a life-changing relationship with the wealthy—and very butch—architect Lota de Macedo Soares (Glória Pires).  The films also stars three-time Golden Globe nominee Treat Williams (Hair, Prince of the City) and, in addition to the Audience Award at Frameline, won the Audience Award for Best Feature at the 2013 Toronto Inside Out Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival.

In a poignant and powerful story of love set in 1985, TEST explores the relationship of two friends who must navigate through a world full of promise while navigating the risks of a newly-named disease called AIDS. Written and directed by Chris Mason Johnson (The New Twenty), the film stars Scott Marlowe and Matthew Risch.

From German director Stephan Lecant, FREE FALL (aka Freier Fall) tells the dramatic story of a man who veers off the conventional path he thought he was on, only to find himself in the middle of a love triangle. The drama stars Max Reimelt (The Wave), Hanno Koffler (Summer Storm) and Katharina Schuttler (Oh Boy).

Director Yen Tan’s (Ciao, Happy Birthday) PIT STOP stars Bill Heck, Marcus DeAnda, Amy Seimetz (TV’s “The Killing”) and John Merrimen in the tender story of a pair of alienated gay men living in an Texas town and yearning for romance. The film was also an official selection at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

New Poster For Johnnie To's "Drug War"

Manufacturing just fifty grams of meth in China will earn you a death sentence, and Timmy Choi (Louis Koo) has manufactured tons of it. After a violent lab accident, he's in the custody of Captain Zhang (Sun Honglei), and now he has only one chance to avoid execution: turn informant and help Zhang's undercover team take down the powerful cartel he's been cooking for. But as the uneasy allies are forced to compress months of police work into just 72 sleepless hours, the increasingly desperate police are quickly stretched past their limits. As things spin wildly out of control, the line between duty and recklessness is blurred, and it becomes unclear whether the cop or the criminal truly has the upper hand.

Long considered The Master of the Hong Kong crime thriller, Johnnie To's first mainland production eschews "two guns at once" mayhem in favor of atmosphere and a tightly-wound plot punctuated with impeccably choreographed bursts of violence, making DRUG WAR an intricate puzzle box of a film that ignited a firestorm of controversy in its homeland.

    New "Lovelace" Poster

In 1972—before the internet, before the porn explosion—Deep Throat was a phenomenon: the first scripted pornographic theatrical feature film, featuring a story, some jokes, and an unknown and unlikely star, Linda Lovelace. Escaping a strict religious family, Linda discovered freedom and the high-life when she fell for and married charismatic hustler Chuck Traynor. As Linda Lovelace she became an international sensation—less centerfold fantasy than a charming girl-next-door with an impressive capacity for fellatio. Fully inhabiting her new identity, Linda became an enthusiastic spokesperson for sexual freedom and uninhibited hedonism. Six years later she presented another, utterly contradictory, narrative to the world—and herself as the survivor of a far darker story.

    "Man Of Steel" Review

"I will honor the man you were Zod Superman, but not the monster you have become."

    ~~Jor-El (Man Of Steel)~~

Heralded by many to be a monster at the box office Man Of Steel is a tale of two different movies. The first being an angst filled drama about a boy who doesn't quite fit in and develops into a man who still can't seem to find his place in the world. The second a building toppling, missile firing, superpowered alien boxing match, of which almost completely destroys Smallville and the city of Metropolis without any remorse for human collateral damage.

The film opens on the still doomed sci-fi/medieval mashup of Krypton, think Star Wars with a pinch of Avatar, where we witness the birth of Kal-El. The visuals are more than impressive but the flying dragons and butler robots are a tad askew. As Krypton is falling around them Zod, Faora, and their minions fail miserably at a strangely timed attempted coup and are swiftly jettisoned to the Phantom Zone.  The  naturally birthed and therefore illegal infant Kal-El is shipped away along with a skull stolen by Jor-El, which is generically called "The Codex.

Cut to 33-year-old Kal-El a.k.a. Clark Kent as he struggles with odd jobs as a fisherman and bartender. The "Super Nomad" stills finds time to engage in some Superdickery with a logger's truck, save a group of men from a burning oil rig, and steal somebody's clothes. Between flashbacks of Pa Kent insisting his son hide his powers from mankind, Clark stumbles upon a Kryptonian scout ship and intrepid reporter Lois Lane. The ship contains the secrets to his origins and somehow when unlocked, the consciousness of his Kryptonian father who implores him to "keep testing your limits."

Henry Cavill always looked the part and he certainly has his moments as both Superman and Clark Kent, but it's hard to stand out on screen amongst such a well versed cast. Cavill spends some touching moments basking in the Kansas sun with Ma Kent, played wistfully by Diane Lane. However, he takes on the role of spectator while being lectured by veteran thespian Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

Henry really fills out the new stylized suit, he's the most powerful and macho version of Superman yet and once he puts on said suit, he owns it. Superman understanding that America looks at him as a threat allows himself to be handcuffed and interrogated by the feisty Lois Lane. It's a well done modernization of the Lois & Superman rooftop interviews. Superman eventually busts out of the cuffs and tells military personnel behind two way glass that "You're scared of me because you can't control me, but that doesn't mean I'm your enemy." He's not. Zod is, and he's on his way.

Amy Adams is refreshing as Lois Lane, we're finally treated to a version of Lois straight out of the pages of the comics. Searching the country for the next big story she can relate to the wandering lifestyle of Clark and the chemistry between Cavill and Adams is evident. Kevin Costner steals every scene he is in providing fatherly advice to young Clark incessantly reminding him "he's going to change the world." You hope for more of Pa Kent and wish that one of the many changes to the mythos applied to the character.

Michael Shannon is at his best as the villainous Zod and overcomes yet another comic book movie featuring a far fetched plan. The Kryptonian general ends up deciding to create New Kyrpton on earth when all else fails to execute his original plan. Hello Superman Returns. Antje Traue is divine as Zod's loyal and lethal sidekick Faora telling Superman, “For every human you save, we will kill a million more." She executes this promise as thousands upon thousands of citizens in Metropolis are mowed down by falling buildings and gravity machine induced flying cars. The problem is, Superman doesn't really seem to notice.

The theme concocted by David Goyer, when he was supposed to be fighting writer's block on The Dark Knight Rises, involves how the world would really deal with an alien on earth in a post 9/11 world. The answer is he would be considered a threat. As the under utilized Laurence Fishburne playing a gruff but suave version of Perry White says, "Imagine how our world would react if they came face to face with this." Chris Meloni as Colonel Hardy has to learn to work with Superman in order to save the world and Superman fighting in tandem with military is truly one of the highlights of the film.

Zach Snyder has delivered a film that breaks the sound barrier with action but combined with David Goyer's script, faces incredible pacing issues. The flashbacks although memorable, a young Clark seeing inside the bodies of his classmates and teachers frightening him into a closet, they stunt the growth of the film. Leaving the emotional story arc behind, the last hour of the film is a visceral experience never  before seen in a Superman film. The action is monstrous and in your face, everything Superman fans and the general public have wanted to see from the Last Son Of Krypton.  If you want to see Superman punching things, you won't be disappointed in the action packed Man Of Steel. If you were hoping this was on par with the Batman Trilogy because Christopher Nolan's name is on the print you just might be.
