Terrence Howard Joins Law & Order Los Angeles

According to the hot shots over at TODJA! Terrence Howard is the latest cast member to join Law & Order Los Angeles. He'll be joining Alfred Molina, Skeet Ulrich and Corey Stoll.

Howard will play a new Deputy D.A.  who will work alongside Deputy D.A. Morales (Molina). It's also rumoured Howard and Molina will be splitting the workload, each appearing roughly in the half of the episodes thus allowing the show to feature big feature names and the actors to stay active in movies.

I never really cared for criminal intent or the flagship series, at least not until the latter's final season. However I've always loved Special Victims Unit. Stabler and Ice T are great to watch when they're kicking some rapist asshole's ass all over the place. No details have been revealed yet for the premise of Los Angeles, but I imagine I'll check it out.

Ulrich and Stoll play Detective Rex Winters and TJ Jaruszalski. Production on LOLA is slated to begin on Aug. 2 for a Sept. 22 premiere

"Arthur" goes back to the future

The last we saw from the set of the comedy remake Arthur starring Russell brand was the batmobile from batman forever, and Brand along with Luis Guzman dressed up as Batman and fat Hispanic robin. That was, whatever that was, but now more photos have leaked from the set this time involving the DeLorean from Back To The Future, what the fuck? I could care less that you make fun of Batman Forever, and drive the shitty batmobile, but no one but Marty Mcfly should be driving the DeLorean, especially not ever 88 miles per hour!

Like I said before I'm on the fence about this one. It could be comedic genius or compete trash. I liked Brand in Get Him To The Greek, but not so much in his other roles. Once we see a trailer I'm sure we'll know more, until then I'll remain optimistic but weary.

The new Arthur follows a very rich, happy drunk who is told by his mother that he must marry the wealthy girl of her choosing or else lose his inheritance, just as he meets a poor girl and falls in love.

Tom Welling Finally Dons The Cape

With the hugely successful series Smallville finally coming to a close after its 10th season this year. The question on everyone's mind is will Clark finally become Superman. Well according to Tom Welling , it will finally happen.

In an interview with The Flickcast Welling was asked about finally becoming the man of steel and he revealed "Yeah, that's the plan, I don't know how they're going to do it, but I know that inevitably, that's where we get to."

His thoughts on the superman costume and what it means to be finally be wearing it:

"[The Superman costume] looks good, I wasn't there when they shot it on set. I was actually on another stage shooting something else. But I know what it looks like."

"I think it's a huge responsibility for Clark and for me, And hopefully, we can get to a place where the fans feel as though we did everything that we could. We serviced the character the way that will make them all happy."

Welling also responded to the long standing rumor that he would play Superman on the big screen once the show had concluded:

"I've always been open to the idea. It's not as simple as everyone would like to think. It's not as simple as me wanting to do it or not wanting to do it, I know that a lot of people want to jump on me or jump on Warner Brothers. It's just not that simple. So there's a lot of elements that have to come together."

Which basically translates to he would love to do it sure, but he knows damn well it's not going to happen. I would like to think this puts the rumor to bed, but I know his response will only be taken out of context and dragged out by fan boys for the next year. We won't hear the end of it until we know who will in fact be cast as the new Man of Steel. Current rumours point to the possibility of John Hamm, but only time will tell.

The season premiere of "Smallville" will air on Friday, September 24.

    Mark Ruffalo Talks The Hulk

Just last weekend it was confirmed by Avengers director Joss Whedon that Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner were joining the cast, respectively as the hulk and Hawkeye. The fans lucky enough to be in attendance at comic con in San Diego were witness to the entire avengers cast being assembled on stage.

Entertainment Weekly was lucky enough to talk to Ruffalo after the event and get his thoughts on being cast as the not so jolly green giant the hulk:

"It was very exciting — and I realized I had some pretty big shoes to fill. Those were my heroes up there! I was a comic book fan growing up. I loved The Hulk and The Avengers — it’s just strange to be entering that world as an actor. I never would have imagined that before."

As far as his thoughts on the character it self:

"He’s a guy struggling with two sides of himself — the dark and the light — and everything he does in his life is filtered through issues of control. I grew up on the Bill Bixby TV series, which I thought was a really nuanced and real human way to look at The Hulk. I like that the part has those qualities."

His thoughts on taking over the role from friend Ed Norton, and Norton's beef with Marvel:

"I’m a friend of Ed’s, and yeah, that wasn’t a great way for all that to go down. But the way I see it is that Ed has bequeathed this part to me. I look at it as my generation’s Hamlet."

As much as I loved Norton in the role I can't say that I don't think Ruffalo won't do a good job. He is after all a great actor. I'm just surprised marvel was able to line up the all star cast that they have.

According to Ruffalo he's not sure, but he assumes they'll start shooting around January or February of next year. The Avengers is set for release on May 4, 2012.

First Tv Spot "The Social Network"

Columbia Pictures have released the first Tv spot for David Finchers The Social Network aka the facebook movie. It's really just a lot more of the same from the other trailers, but it further reassures you Fincher is a director that can do no wrong, and you know you'll end up seeing it. Not very often are real people portrayed in film to be the actual cunts they are in real life, but if anyone were to do it, and do it right it would be David Fincher.

The Social Network is based in part on the book The Accidental Billionaires. It chronicles the formative days of Facebook, from its founding in Mark Zuckerberg’s Harvard dorm room through its early rise to success. It hits theaters this October.

    The Anderson Chronicles: Justice League

In this week’s edition of The Anderson Chronicles I delve into the behind the scenes happenings on a potential Justice League film receiving theatrical distribution. The Idea of a DC hero’s team up film has long been discussed by Warner Bros studio execs and fans alike. The project at some point is inevitable to happen, but in what capacity, under what direction and when is still up the air.

Two years ago the project almost came to fruition under the name of Justice League: Mortal and the direction of George Miller. The proposed cast was already in place and production was set to start in Australia. The project right off the bat was plagued with delays, and ultimately was cancelled indefinitely. Rumours swirled around that director Christopher Nolan had threatened to walk away from his already successful and rebooted Batman franchise, if production on a potentially contradicting Justice League film continued. The contradiction being that Batman would also be portrayed in the Justice League franchise by Armie Hammer concurrently with Bales Batman in The Dark Knight and the currently untitled Batman 3. There’s nothing proving the validity of this rumour aside form off hand comments made by both Nolan and Bale, but I think it was obvious Warner Bros knew where the better investment was.

If the project were to come back into the light of day what could we expect? According to a report from Inland Empire Strikes Back the plan was to bring all of the current as well as in development franchises together for one large scale DC Universe on film. Similar to what Marvel studios have done leading up to their currently planned Avengers film in 2012. According to the report there is an actual chronology in place between the current franchises.

Batman Begins is being specifically referred to as "Action Comics #1." Translation: Nolan's Batman is the first (and only) superhero around. During Batman Begins that is. As well as The Dark Knight that is going by "Action Comics #2."

What would be the third "issue," you ask? Martin Campbell's Green Lantern. In fact, there are still on-going talks to make references to Gotham City if not Batman himself. And although Superman himself isn't around just yet in this time-line, Clark Kent does exist in Smallville - the fictional town in Kansas, not the television series. You just know somebody is going make that assumption. At the moment, that's where the "comic series" stops.

I personally have a hard time believing the report, but that doesn’t necessarily take away from its legitimacy now does it. The only real problem being that according to this report it would mean contrary to popular belief Nolan is not in fact against a Justice League film. Contradicting previous statements made by Nolan in an interview with The Los Angeles Times.

"A lot of people have approached Superman in a lot of different ways. I only know the way that has worked for us that’s what I know how to do,” Nolan said, emphasizing the idea that Batman exists in a world where he is the only superhero and a similar approach to the Man of Steel would assure the integrity needed for the film. “Each serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other."

Nolan aside, the franchise will eventually move forward regardless of certain fans gripes with it or continuity issues amongst the franchises. The most likely option and at least the most viable would be for the production to take place after the success of several separate DC franchises. Meaning the current films don’t have to conclude with all of the current franchises culminating up to one big film. It merely establishes each of the characters involved with general audiences there for creating a built in fan base for a potentially profitable Team up film in the future. I think that including the continuities set in place from the current franchises could serve as a mistake. The point being that current intent by the creative teams already in place is for their individual work to stand on its own and not be a part of a team film. This however does not mean that Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and/or all of the above should not at all be included in a potential Justice League film, as they would likely be the selling point of the feature. Those characters as portrayed in the justice league film can stand on their own also likely with a new cast in place, after allowing the Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman franchises currently in place to have concluded.

The best possible approach to take towards a Justice League film is motion capture. Not just to separate the franchise from the co-existing  films set in place, but it also allows the film makers a much larger creative freedom with not only the casting but the effects and presentation as well. With a motion capture film you could cast someone like animated fan favourite Kevin Conroy as batman yet still have the character presented as a large menacing figure. The same can be said for the iconic character Superman, the issue of casting someone who looks enough like the comic book adaption is no longer an issue. The proposed Justice League film even in question at this point by Warner Bros is still likely close to at least 10 years away. Essentially creating a larger window of opportunity for further advancement in motion capture technology. Which could allow the characters to seem more photo realistic then they already do. Meaning we would be able enjoy a full length theatrically released Justice League film and regardless of the casting it’ll look more like a comic come to life than any other live action adaption ever has, and the level of confusion with the live action adaptions can remain minimal.

Just this past weekend at Comic Con in San Diego Sony released the first trailer for their new online game DC Universe Online. The trailer serves as a great representation as to what a motion capture Justice League film might look like. The result being all kinds of awesome!

    Chris Evans Talks Captain America!

Chris Evans revealed just this weekend at Comic Con that we won't see the Captain America we know and recognize until about the third act of the film. His final look and Cap suit aren't really shown until the end of the film.

He had the following to say to MTV:

“It’s a World War II movie, so I think a little bit of a cumbersome feel to it and something that’s a bit chunkier … not only serves the time period, I think it looks better. It’s not this sleek spandex suit. It looks like something you might wear in the ’40s in the middle of a war.” … “There’s a couple stages and initially in the script, Steve isn’t Captain America right away. He gets the injection and isn’t asked to go to war right off the bat. He’s used in different areas and different facets, so he has different stages of the suit. I don’t think he actually jumps into the final suit until the third act of the film.”

He also added that his shield will also go through variations and changes through out the film as well:

“Well, during the USO tour, there’s obviously a different shield. And he goes on a couple missions, he goes AWOL and kind of takes the USO shield. And eventually, once he’s kind of allowed to be this soldier, and they outfit him with the new uniform, they decide to outfit him with an updated shield.”

It's nothing new for fanboys to ridicule or bitch about the design of their favorite super hero's costume on film. But from what I saw of the concept art released for Cap they should have nothing to worry about. That doesn't mean it'll please everyone, but just be happy you're not ending up with rubber nipples like Batman and Robin!

    New Green Lantern Promo Art!

After a half-ass panel at Comic Con this weekend WB has released new promo art for the upcoming Green Lantern film due out next year. More importantly we get our first actual look at Mark Strong as Sinestro, fuck yeah! Consider me re-interested in this, for now. The talk of the giant green fist in the trailer had me worried, but this is enough to tie me and the Green Lantern fanboys over at least until a teaser trailer is released anyway.

Featured is Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond.

Opening in theaters on June 17, the Martin Campbell-directed action adventure also star Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, Angela Bassett, Jay O. Sanders and Jon Tenney.

Cowboys & Aliens Synopsis and Image!

Courtesy of Collider we now have the first official image and the synopsis for Jon Favreau's directorial follow up to Iron Man 2, Cowboys and Aliens!

The first image is of Daniel Craig in full cowboy gear holding in front of him what appears to be an alien weapon. Well that makes sense, I was honestly wondering how cowboys would realistically defeat aliens. Now we know, they steal the alien weapons, clever!

Cowboys and Aliens opens everywhere July 29, 2011.

Blockbuster filmmaker Jon Favreau directs Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in an event film for summer 2011 that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way: Cowboys & Aliens.  Joined by an arsenal of top moviemakers—Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci—he brings an all-new action thriller that will take audiences into the Old West, where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world.

1873.  Arizona Territory.  A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution.  The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist.  What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford).  It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky.  Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation.  As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force.  With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation.  United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

The script for Cowboys & Aliens is by Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof (television’s Lost), based on Platinum Studios’ graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.  Grazer, Howard, Rosenberg, Kurtzman and Orci produce.  Spielberg and Denis L. Stewart executive produce.
