There MIGHT Be Only One - Ryan Reynolds Up for Highlander Reboot

Verbal Kint got it wrong. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing studio-heads Ryan Reynolds was a box-office draw.

Apparently the receipts (lack thereof, I should say) of Green Lantern, The Change-Up, even the smaller not-intended-for-blockbuster-dividends Buried weren't proof enough Reynolds isn't the "next big thing" as proclaimed. You can thank Denzel Washington and the promise of his kicking-ass Bourne style for the strong Safe House earnings. Hell, Reynolds' role (He was the co-lead) was downplayed in marketing.

But again with the "No, but really, this time he's gonna be huge, I tells ya!" proclamations. He's the front-runner for the Highlander reboot at Lionsgate-Summit. Neal Moritz is producing, which could explain the inclination of boarding Reynolds since they collaborated on R.I.P.D. (due out next June).

Not that Highlander is a sacred cow (The fact it became a franchise still baffles). Just the Reynolds hard-on, he might be a nice guy. But he isn't all his hype cracks him up to be.

Ridley Scott's Blade Runner Follow-Up is Officially a Sequel

Still uneasiness of its development, a continuation of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner continues to move forward.

This afternoon comes a press release confirming the Blade Runner follow-up is, in fact, a sequel set "some years" after the groundbreaking 1982 science-fiction classic. Also official confirmation Hampton Fancher, who authored the original draft, subsequently rewritten by David Peoples, will reunion with Scott to write.

I'll be more encouraged if Prometheus lives up the hype, and God do I hope so. Until then, can't get caught up in the hysteria of returning to that world. Have to see how Scott's other return to the well does first. Have to remember Blade Runner, as influential as it was, was a financial failure upon release. Just because Disney took that risk with Tron: Legacy doesn't mean others will follow suit here.

Only Guilty Man in Shawshank Headed to Last Vegas

Morgan Freeman has such a relaxed, grandfather demeanor (Elder statesman, if you will) to see him yell, "SHOOT THAT MOTHERFUCKER IN THE HEAD!" in Wanted took you by surprise, not unlike Betty White cursing up a storm in Lake Placid.

He's been added to the cast of Last Vegas, a comedy about four old pals reuniting in Las Vegas (Get it? Last Vegas! Alright moving on...) for a bachelor party for their forever-single buddy finally tying the knot. Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro are already onboard, with Jon Turtletaub directing.

Assuming this is still intended as a raunchy-sex comedy (Original tagline when it was offered to Jack Nicholson was "Grumpy Old Men meets The Hangover”). Don't know if he's playing against type here, but God I hope so. The thought of a filthy sex-romp centered on a couple of geriatrically-enhanced fellas, I don't know, makes me laugh.
