Spider-Man Versus Crotch Rot!

This is exactly why Sony (wisely) went ahead and released an official photo of Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man.

A handful of gossip sites (Daily Mail, Holy Moly, Pop Sugar) have their own set of pictures taken from the exterior Los Angeles set. That appears to be Garfield in action in his new threads. He appears to be fighting not a mugger, of some sorts, but also what looks to be crotch rot.

Damn, that looks bad. It just goes to show you these superhero costumes can look great or terrible given the proper context and thanks to the advent of Photoshop. It also just reminds me even more as to why Star Trek 2 is going to kick their ass next June.

Captain America Poster!

Don't me interpret what "Avenge" means. You guys know I have a dirty mind. Too late...

Maybe Steve Rogers gives an angry fuck? "Aveeeeeeeeeeeenge! Bitch!" Maybe followed by a quick "Excelsior!" He's a germaphobe considering the extra thick gloves and all that flying dirt in the background?

Seriously though, that final Captain America suit showcased a few days back looks bad ass.

Eve, Kruger, & Pike Tug At Superman's Cape

It's been one news story after another slapping us in the face since Henry Cavill was announced as the new Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot of the franchise, mostly dealing with who will be playing the female lead opposite of Cavill. What's Playing fired the first shot reporting that Kristen Stewart, Malin Akerman, Dianna Argon, Jessica Biel, and Rachel McAdams were fighting it out to cuddle up to Superman as Lois Lane in the next installment. Then Latino Review chimed in with the news that Olivia Wilde was also in the mix for the role of Lois Lane.

Soon after there was a flurry of denials and speculation regarding Kristens Stewart's involvement in the casting process, did she read or didn't she, we ultimately found out her attention was now turned to "Snow White & The Huntsman". Now new information has surfaced regarding additional possibilities for the female lead. Variety is finally making an impact on the Superman news front, they have revealed that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are also circling the casting couch for the female lead in the Superman flick.

The trade is very clear that that the role is not that of Lois Lane, which has caused some internet chatter. "No LoizLanez! Oh Noes!" Personally, if Lois didn't make an appearance in the film, I would be perfectly fine with it. We've seen Lois enough don't you think? "Superman The Movie", "Superman II", "Superman Returns", not to mention on television with "Smallville" & "Lois & Clark". Lois overload.

All of that that being said, if you think about this situation for a moment, seems like the Nolan Bros & Warner Bros could possibly be casting two female leads. Another possibility is that Lois could have a reduced role in the new Superman film with another character taking the reins as Superman's go to female counterpart in heels.

What other females could possibly be in Superman's life besides Lois and Ma Kent you ask? How about Lana Lang, Clark's childhood sweetheart? We've seen her in "Smallville" and we were treated with her in "Superman III". She would be a welcome addition to the big screen along side Lois or even by her lonesome. Another possibility is Cat Grant. She's played a significant role in the comics working at the Daily Planet, and she always seems to place herself in Clark's field of vision.

I don't know if it is just me, but Alice Eve looks a lot like the comic book version of Cat Grant. You sign her up as Grant, Biel or Wilde as Lois and I am all in. Who knows what is going to happen at this point, but in regards to the casting of the female lead, looks like this will be resolved in the next couple weeks. Just a guess on my part of course, but things are moving FAST. Faster than a speeding bullet even.

Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy Set to Reteam

The trailer for Real Steel didn't exactly receive the warmest reception when it showed up online a few months ago, but it has been getting some impressive early buzz (memo to Dreamworks/Disney: give us a better trailer!).  So it looks like director Shawn Levy and his Real Steel star Hugh Jackman are already gearing up to work together again.

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has acquired a pitch for an untitled action-adventure film that will be scripted by Carlton Cuse (Lost) for Levy to direct and Jackman to star in.  No details on the story have emerged as of yet, but it's possible Fox is looking to combine both their Wolverine and Night at the Museum starpower to create another new franchise.  Which sounds like a pretty smart idea.

Real Steel will be released in theaters on October 7.  And it won't be in 3D.  Let's take this as a respectable good sign.

Pirates 4 Preview...Preview

I've never quite understood the phenomenon of creating previews of upcoming previews...it's like seeing a commercial for another commercial.  But for anyone who can't wait until the Superbowl this weekend for a quick peek at Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, then Disney's got the perfect little preview for you:

You can see the rest of the trailer on Sunday, at some point during the Superbowl.  You can see the entire movie (and I will, because I love these movies) when it hits theaters on May 20.

Movie Moan TV - 'Mystery Men' (1999)

You know those shows where a group of friends talk about a film everybody loves?  Don't you just hate those?

Well Jamie, Ed & Kristina agree with you and make no bones about their passive dislike for Phil's moan of the week, the comic book movie bomb 'Mystery Men'.

I promise we'll be getting back to good films next week folks.

New Captain Amercia Pics!

Comingsoon.Net has gotten hold of fresh scans of the forthcoming 'Captain America: The First Avenger" from the new edition of Empire magazine, they include the shot below (check the rest out at the link) which I think is the best shot we have seen of a fully attired Cap so far.

Don't forget this Saturday during the Superbowl we will get our first glimpse of footage from the movie in the Superbowl spot.

Fletch Bitten by Reboot Bug

It got close about a decade back with Kevin Smith. Though prospects were hopeful more recently with Bill Lawrence, I thought when Smith dropped out Fletch would forever be known by movie-goers for the two Chevy Chase films from the 80s. But you know with reboots having worked in spades for Batman, Bond and Star Trek, I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise that Fletch is showing signs of life again. But fuck it, I'm surprised.

According to Heat Vision, Warner Brothers bought up the film rights to the character and 11 books penned by Gregory McDonald. They're hoping to re-capture that "reboot magic" they did with the World's Greatest Detective, and maybe the Man of Steel.

Since plans are in the infancy stage, there isn't a screenwriter or director aboard. But I will say despite my issues with the man over the last two years, Smith was dead on about one thing. He suggested the guy to carry the torch from Chase was Justin Long.

Granted, I don't think that will happen. But it's wishful thinking.

The Curious Case of Kristen Stewart, Kryptonians & Huntsmen

There's been a lot of back-and-forth over the last 24 hours or so over Kristen Stewart and her status, or lack thereof, on the Superman reboot for next Christmas. So I'll be brief. Well...I'll try...

What's Playing first said her name was filtering through the pipes at Burbank for Lois Lane, along with a handful of other actresses. Although I lack a hatred for emo vampires and Stewart has the acting chops, she doesn't strike me as right for the gung-ho Dailey Planet reporter. But it made sense she'd be brought up being she's one of the "hot" actresses at the moment. In this case, some of those mentioned will "do lunch" with the filmmakers over the part, and others are just being tossed around the production offices.

New York Daily News says it's a case of the former as she reportedly took a single meeting with helmer Zack Snyder and his wife/producing-partner Deborah. The verdict was a no-go for the Twilight star.

Cut to People getting in touch with Stewart's representation, who have absolutely no reason at all to lie or make the situation appear in her favor, claiming it was her saying, "Thanks, but no thanks" and not the other way around. Because she apparently wants to do "smaller, independent films" – you know like Snow White & the Huntsman.

Universal has been beating down Stewart's door for their big Christmas 2012 tentpole (that'll be fighting for your wallets against Superman, interestingly enough) and reportedly told her she wasn't required to read for it – even though they'd conducted recent screen-tests with other lesser-to-completely unknown actresses. Hence a new report from Heat Vision stating she's now in negotiations for the part.

Sounds to me like what happened is obvious. The Snyders told her she'd have to test and risk not getting cast. Being how Universal said to the contrary, and there’s a high likelihood her payday will be considerably higher, she made the logical choice for Snow White instead of pursuing Superman.
