Chairs! But They're Superhero Chairs! First Official Picture from The Avengers Set!

Not too much (read: nothing at all, frankly) to read into here except the exclusion of Nick Fury. Oh, so a white-turned-green man gets a chair but a black man can't? I'm calling Al Sharpton and Spike Lee right now!

Tacky joke aside, courtesy of JoBlo here’s the first official set photo from The Avengers. Personally, I'm not crazy about Marvel's big "superhero meet-up" that opens next summer's box-office. But for the rest of you (which is most of you, good folks), you may commence nerdgasming.

Immortals Footage Takes Us Back to the Year 2007

The trailer was expected to drop tomorrow, but E! News broadcast the honest-to-God first look at Immortals, the overly-stylized fantasy action epic set for release this November. If you missed said broadcast and can't find their preview on YouTube anymore (since Relativity Media yanked it - a sign of confidence indeed!), E! Online now has the entire trailer for your viewing.

As we all know, its director and leading man (Tarsem Singh and Henry Cavill) are already on to bigger and better endeavors for 2012 (directing The Brothers Grimm: Snow White and being the new Superman). But they'll have to answer for this first and I already have a feeling their participation in those projects, especially Cavill for obvious reasons, will overshadow Immortals during its forthcoming press rounds. Opening the week before The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I won't help either.

None the less, take a look at the footage and you tell me with a straight face this doesn't look like a 300 clone.

New 'Captain America' Photo and Interview with Chris Evans

MTV has debuted a new photo from Captain America: The First Avenger featuring Steve Rogers suited up and sheilding some bullets.  Looks pretty good.

MTV also chatted with Evans about how his character transitions to The Avengers film and what character from the Marvel universe he's most looking forward to dealing with.  There are some minor spoilers so if you want to know nothing about the film, don't watch the video below:

'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' - Episode 3

Continuing with their weekly release, the 3rd episode of Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat: Legacy has debuted online.  This one features the character of Johnny Cage and his well-known arc of being a underappreciated action-star.

While I thought this was the best episode yet, I was a little bothered that they blanked out the cursing.  Isn't this suppose to be a hard R-rated Mortal Kombat?  Maybe they're saving it for the feature film.  Anyway, here's the new episode:

Cameo We'd All Heard About Confirmed - Johnny Depp to Appear in 21 Jump Street

Not that it was a surprise at this point. So I can't be that douche who yells, "AWWWWW! You spoiled it for everyone!"

We've known for quite awhile now the filmmakers behind 21 Jump Street were aiming to have Johnny Depp (star of the original late 80s Fox TV series; you know, before he fully embraced his inner-weirdo to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars) cameo in the big-screen version starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. I guess it all boiled down to Depp's schedule being open, and just plain, him being game for it.

Coming Soon says it's mission accomplished as they've received confirmation that Depp will show up sometime during production – which is already underway down here in New Orleans.

Truth be told, it's very cool that Depp is willing to do this when he clearly doesn't have to. He's just a cool guy.

Samuel Motherfucking Jackson Meets Captain Motherfucking America

This past Saturday an additional sequence for Captain America was filmed in New York's Times Square. The scene in question appears to involve the title character (as played by Chris Evans) meeting Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson filling his contractual duty of appearing in every Marvel production underneath the Sun – when they make Spider-Ham, expect Jackson to show up) in what could be the final scene (the obligatory "Avengers SET UP!" bit) or perhaps a post-credits coda.

No need of slapping down every single picture taken. What with the seven million population in that city, and God knows how many of them had their cameras flashing when they saw Evans and Jackson walking around the street with a film crew. We'll instead just show you some video shot from the filming. For pictures, feel free to check out  Eye Prime, Klatsch-Tratsch and Super Hero Hype

Anyone else think Evans looks considered less juiced, for lack of a better term?

Henry Cavill Auditioning for James Bond or the Lead Singer of Creed?

Hence forth, people will refer to him as Superman. But long before that, Henry Cavill had an "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" reputation with the number of break-out roles he lost out on; chief among them James Bond. The British actor was said to be the runner-up for Casino Royale, but as we all know the Broccolis had had their eyes on Daniel Craig from the start (and Sam Worthington was said to be the second runner-up!)

While we all wait to see how he does fumbling around as a clumsy, dork and throwing punches against Kryptonian baddies next Christmas, The Book Bond claims they have a "100% authentic" snap-shot taken from Cavill's ultimately ill-fated 007 audition circa 2005. Assuming this isn't fake as all shit.

Rob Kazinsky Exits The Hobbit

Peter Jackson is the latest to join the Facebook revolution not unlike your parents and old high-school buddies, and the director has used the social network to dispense updates on the two epic Hobbit films.

Filming began a month ago, and following in the admittedly-strange path as his Lord of the Rings trilogy (with Stuart Townsend replaced by Viggo Mortensen) and The Lovely Bones (Mark Wahlberg stepping in for Ryan Gosling) an actor originally cast in a prominent role has left the production as Jackson reveals:

"I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons. Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us. I should say that Rob's departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili's storyline. At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I'll keep everyone posted with updates as they come."

Cheers,

PJ

Tough break for the poor guy; hopefully, for his sake, "personal reasons" isn't code for "He was an unbearable ass to deal with! So we fired him."

Best not to fret for Jackson & Co. As noted above, Viggo Mortensen was cast as Aragorn a week or so into filming the original Rings trilogy not to mention Hugh Jackman replaced Dougray Scott on X-Men, and in both cases, it's near-impossible to imagine any other actor in that role.

Two New Action Packed Trailers for 'X-Men First Class'

Two nearly identical international trailers for X-Men First Class have made their way online. The trailers are a mix of a lot of what we've seen already mixed in with a bunch of new bad ass action scenes. I'm finding it easier and easier to get behind this prequel as more trailers are released. I'll admit when they first anounced the film only last year I was more than skeptical, but now I'd consider it to be one of the top films I have to see this year.
