Star Wars Blu-Ray Box Set Will Include...A Lot of Stuff

I'm not sure exactly when May 4 was declared an official Star Wars holiday, but I guess the whole "May the 4th Be With You" line was just too good to pass up. Regardless, Lucasfilm decided to use the day to reveal details on the upcomiing Star Wars: The Complete Saga blu-ray box set, which is set for release on September 16.
If you're an old-school fan clinging to the faint hope that George Lucas would have a heart and include the original theatrical cuts of Episodes IV-VI along with their newly enhanced special editions, prepare to be disappointed, because they won't be there. But, the 9-disc set still sounds like it will have enough Star Wars-goodness to guarantee that most fans will not see daylight again until at least Christmas, with 1080p presentations of all 6 films, DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 surround tracks, and more than 40 hours of special features, according to Blu-Ray.com.
I'm told 39 of those 40 hours of special features will be devoted to the creation of Jar-Jar Binks. Just kidding. But you can expect audio commentaries on all 6 films, as well as deleted, extended, or alternate scenes, cast and crew interviews, looks at the concept art and creature effects, a "flythrough" of the Lucasfilm archives, behind-the-scenes specials going all the way back to the first film's release in 1977, "Star Warriors," a documentary about the world of Star Wars fandom, a 30th Anniversary retrospective of The Empire Strikes Back (featuring the late, great Empire director Irvin Kershner), and a look back on all of the popular Star Wars spoofs over the years.
Apparently, there are more details on the set to come, so...fingers crossed for the Holiday Special! Once again, I am kidding. In the meantime, the folks at Lucasfilm would like us to know how much cooler the Blu-Ray logo looks when it is carved out by a lightsaber. Enjoy!

I won't be buying. Aside from my refusal to buy blu-ray, I would still not buy even if I did purchase blu-ray. I'd wait until Lucas "gives in to fan demand," and releases the ORIGINAL movies on blu-ray, and we know that he will. His refusal to do so is simply a way to double dip.
