Liam Neeson proved that he can still kick some ass at the box office, as Unknown took the top spot this weekend.  The Bourne Identity-meets-Taken action thriller earned a solid $21.7 million, and should continue to play well into the next few weekends.  As far as the 4-day holiday weekend is concerned, however, the film could have some serious competition from some garden gnomes, as the family crowd has been turning up in droves for Disney's Gnomeo & Juliet, which had an impressive second weekend, earning $19.4 million.

It was not such a great weekend for I Am Number Four.  Hoping to capture the Twilight crowd with a similar girl-meets-alien premise, the film barely beat out Gnomeo & Juliet with a weak $19.5 million.  Budgeted at $50 million (and a small fortune more on marketing, considering how it was advertised everywhere the past few weeks), it better have some amazing word-of-mouth if it's hoping to earn its money back.

This weekend's other new release, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, earned $17 million, far below the previous two installments in the series.  Perhaps they should take that as a hint to put this franchise to bed already.

Justin Bieber, you may have defeated the Jonas Brothers, but you're no Hannah Montana at the box office.  The pop star's Never Say Never dropped 54% this weekend, which was expected, since most of his target audience raced to see it last weekend.  But since a lot of kids are off from school this week, it should continue to some more steady business for at least another week before it finally fades for good.

Next weekend sees the releases of the comedy Hall Pass, and the Nicolas Cage 3D action thriller Drive Angry.  Summer, please get here soon!
