Walking Dead Previews Show Off Shane's Descent Into Crazytown

Normally, I try to avoid spoilers for movies and TV shows that I want to see, but a few weeks ago I accidentally came across a description of what turned out to be the final moments of this past Sunday's mid-season finale of The Walking Dead on AMC (and consider what follows to be a spoiler warning for yourself if the episode is still sitting on your DVR).  Regardless, knowing ahead of time how the walker-massacre at Herschel's barn would end didn't make watching a zombie-fied Sophia getting blown away by Rick any easier.  Damn, that was brutal...and yet, it was probably one of the best moments in the series so far.

Well, now we have to wait until February 12 to see what the fallout from that whole mess will be, and if these preview clips from the next episode, entitled "Nebraska", are any indication, it certainly looks like Shane is off his rocker for good - and that the others are realizing it too:

It looks like that also answers one of the questions left open at the end of the episode - why didn't any of Herschel's people tell them that Sophia was in the barn?  It's because the only one who would have known was Otis...who Shane left behind as a walker happy meal to bring medical supplies back for Carl after he had been shot (this was also confirmed by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman on AMC's Talking Dead recap show after the finale aired).  So them not knowing was really Shane's fault.  Kinda.

You can find lots more Walking Dead extras on their official site.  The series continues on AMC on February 12.
