Movie Moan: Summer 2011 Prediction Power Hour -The Results

Apologies to such sleeper hits as 'Cowboys And Aliens' and 'Conan The Barbarian 3D' ('sleepers' as in people fell asleep during them and 'hits' as in what we wanted to do to the people who made them) but the Movie Moan crew have decided to close the book on the Summer 2011 blockbuster season.

So you know what that means?  It's results time!

Back in April, Kristina, Jamie and Phil placed their bets on the specific domestic box office grosses of the Summer's heavy hitters (and 'Bad Teacher' for some reason) and on this show, the tallies are calculated and we see who is the winner.  You may be very surprised by the result.  We certainly were.

But it's not just Judgement Day for us.  We paid attention to the predictions you made in the comments section and have picked a lucky web winner for each film as well (though the only prize you win is our respect).  Enough stalling; let battle commence!

Medical disclaimer: If, by the end of this show, you end up shouting "turn the machines back on, TURN THE MACHINES BACK ON" to a large room of people, there is nothing wrong with you.  You just didn't do very well this year.

Jo wins for Bridesmaids and Zodfather wins for Kung Fu Panda 2. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT! I get the point for Green Lantern! Not Welshfilmbuff! I was technically closer! :)

    So I got 3 points. :)

Anyway great show guys! I can't wait for next year's prediction show. Oh that will be lots of fun. :) So Phil what was the final score results for us the viewers. Can you please post our results?

Oh there is just 1 more thing! As much as I would like to take that point away from Jamie for the Captain America prediction it's not fair and Jamie still wins anyway.

Congratulations to Jamie and the rest of the winners! This was a lot of fun. It's inspired me to try to replicate this competition by getting an office pool going with my colleagues at work, even though I think doing Fall predictions for "Tintin" and "J. Edgar" and so forth is going to be more difficult than the Summer predictions.

I make sure to listen to each week's Movie Moan; all of you are so much fun to listen to, and of course the subject matter is awesome. I burn your shows to CD and listen in my car during my commute to work.

Not that it matters much, Phil, but I believe you shafted me on credit for my predictions of $150 million for X-Men and $125 mil for Super 8 lol :)

Ok guys, remind me not to do the whole web winners thing next year cause I'll just mis-read everyone's comments and screw it up. I can't write a list A2THEH. I'm getting cross-eyed just reading that comments section. Let's just say we're all winners. Pleeeeeeeeease say we're all winners. I've had a hard enough time dealing with '3rd place Kristina'. :)

Zodather, you have no idea how flattering it is to us that someone actually takes the time to port our little show to CD and listen to it in the car. I wouldn't have thought my review of Conan would be the best way to start your day but, heck, whatever does it for you.

    mwaahahaaha

Anyways, I still can't believe how badly the superhero films performed this year. Jamie went on and on about how hard it is for any film to pass 200 and it sucks that he was only right because the films this year were simply stinkers. Marvel films however don't deserve to pass 200 mill cause they never really go for broke but rather play it safe so lesson learned.

Looks like Transformers did very well, which means either it was amazing or the last film wasn't as bad as people like to think it was, either way.

Not sure why I thought super8 would do well. It's not like Abrams was coming off of Dark Knight buzz nor did his film get people questioning reality matrix style. I love that he didn't just do an ET rip off, but he set it in the 70's and dared to claim that it was for a new generation lol.

I lol'd when Kristina suggested Cowboys could have been like Pirates. Gore actually made a special movie in pearl. From depps intro to his rum jokes to the curse and rush and etc. Favreau doesn't have a special bone in his body and now that the brand or RDJ aren't headlining he's showing his true colors . His next film will bomb even harder I'm afraid.

Panda needed a different release date. It also needed the magic of the first.

    Next year should be epic.
Phil, you're such a welcomed presence to pod casting in general. Don't leave us again.
That being said some of your guess work was whack man. lol@ captain america.
