New "Man Of Steel" Comic Con Poster

After a good amount of fanboy anticipation, The Brothers Warner pulled out all the stops in Hall H for the Man Of Steel at this year's Comic Con. To coincide with the presentation WB released a Comic Con related teaser poster heavily inspired by Alex Ross.

I dig the poster, very similar to a fan design I saw on the forums many months ago. I hope when the marketing actually takes off they will stray away from simply showing the \S/ logo, that isn't going to cut it this time around. I look forward to the teaser.

"Man Of Steel" Teaser Length Confirmed

In what has to be the worst kept secret since Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know" being written about Dave Coulier AKA Uncle Joey on Full House, the Man Of Steel teaser will be attached to The Dark Knight Rises. According to the Alberta Film Ratings the teaser is 1 minute and 27 seconds long which is around 7 seconds shorter than the Superman Returns teaser for those who are counting seconds.

This film has been shrouded in secrecy so it's going to be interesting to see the first footage of the film to gauge tone, characterization, and story.

    Darren Aronofsky Reveals Noah's Ark

Director Darren Aronofsky showed off his partly constructed version of Noah's ark on the set of Noah via Twitter and it's pretty damn impressive. You would imagine there will be a lot of green screen used for this flick, especially the massive amount of water shots. I believe Superman Returns had an effect house that worked entirely on the water, I can imagine this being the case for Noah, which is set to splash into theaters on March 28th, 2014.

    "Ride Like Hell" Poster

Dodging speeding cars, crazed cabbies, open doors, and eight million cranky pedestrians is all in a day's work for Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the best of New York's agile and aggressive bicycle messengers. It takes a special breed to ride the fixie -- super lightweight, single-gear bikes with no brakes and riders who are equal part skilled cyclists and suicidal nutcases who risk becoming a smear on the pavement every time they head into traffic.

But a guy who's used to putting his life on the line is about to get more than even he is used to when a routine delivery turns into a life or death chase through the streets of Manhattan. When Wilee picks up his last envelope of the day on a premium rush run, he discovers this package is different. This time, someone is actually trying to kill him.

    "The Expendables 2" Banner

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal... Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Lee Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time -- six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that's nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way....

    "The Amazing Spider-Man" Review

It seems like only yesterday that Tobey Maguire was swinging over New York City via web in his sleek Spider-Man suit pining over Mary Jane Watson. Cut to 2012 and The Amazing Spider-Man takes a spin at telling what the studio marketed as "The Untold Story" even though the entire time you can't shake the feeling of deja vu. You can tell a studio suit was hoping this was going to be their Spider-Man Begins but instead somehow ended up with Spider-Man Returns.

Andrew Garfield is more than solid as Peter Parker bringing an edge to the character even though his skateboarding shennigans scream more 90's Bart Simpson than modern superhero in the making. Though Garfield might not have completely embraced the sensitive side of Parker like Maguire did, the British actor was able to push the charming and sarcastic side of the character in the right direction. Parker finally dons the mask an hour into the film and it wasn't long after that I realized Garfield was doing a damn good job playing Spider-Man but Tobey Maguire IS Spider-Man.

Emma Stone seems to have been forced to dumb herself down to the role of Gwen Stacy but despite some forced awkwardness not to be mistaken for realism, she enjoys some chemistry fueled moments with Garfield on screen. The first kiss takes place on the roof of her apartment building where Parker does his best Mortal Kombat impression and performs a "Get Over Here" maneuver with his web. You almost wish that in some alternate universe Stone could have somehow been cast as Mary Jane in the Raimi films.

It's a shame that Rhys Ifans couldn't have been cast as Norman Osborn because then it would have meant he would have never had to turn into The Lizard. Ifans turns in an understated performance as the one armed Dr. Curt Connors, an OsCorp scientist attempting to find the proper equation for regeneration in order to correct his lack for limb. Once he morphs into a giant poor man's Godzilla and retires to a underground sewer lair, I completely lost interest. His plan to release a toxin throughout the city to create droves of invincible humanoids is a plan worthy of a 1960's Bond villain.

The action is present but a good amount of it takes place with Peter Parker taking out thugs in dark alleys. After the nuttiness that was Avengers, audiences aren't going to appreciate the nuances of an alley chase scene as much as they might have pre-Avengers, but this is where director Marc Webb is comfortable. He seems to really understand how to further develop the reasons for Peter transforming into the webslinger, but once that mask goes on he loses control of the story, which you think would have been better scripted considering James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent, Steve Kloves,  were involved in penning the remake.

Martin Sheen is like an all star playing for a last place team. He carries himself as a more hip to the game version of Uncle Ben but still meets the same fate in the end. The legendary Sally Field is completely wasted as Aunt May and spends most of her time not sleeping and begging for somebody to bring her home some damn eggs. You wonder whose decision it was to not put Dennis Leary on screen as much as possible, his blue collar turn as Captain Stacy screams for more screen time. I have to mention there is some pretty good 3D, although are you supposed to be able to take off your glasses during the non action scenes and see the screen almost perfectly?

There are different actors and a different villain with a couple minutes of Peter's parents thrown in, but The Amazing Spider-Man is a sleeker, hipper, three dimensional, remake of 2002's Spider-Man. Although I'm struggling to figure out what happened to the untold story, I'm comfortable with this being a remake. Just like Superman Returns this film has it's place in the Spider-Man film universe, it just didn't live up to it's title. Amazing.

"Goats" & "The Tall Man" Posters Featuring Vera Farmiga & Jessica Biel

    GOATS:

In GOATS, Ellis (Graham Phillips) is the most adult member of his eccentric family at 15 years old.  His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk).  His dad (Ty Burrell) left home years ago and is more focused on his new wife (Keri Russell) and family.  And then there’s Goat Man (David Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of stability, commitment, and expanding one's mind.

When Ellis decides to leave Tucson to go to the same East Coast prep school that his father went to, he easily assimilates to his new environment - even gaining the attention of a local girl (Dakota Johnson).  But as he re‐connects with his estranged father, he finds Goat Man’s influence and his life out West thrown into stark contrast.

Based on Mark Jude Poirier’s best-selling novel, director Christopher Neil's hilarious and poignant film is a witty reversal of the coming of age formula, a beautifully honest portrayal of life with its rough edges, awkward moments, and non-endings.

    THE TALL MAN:

In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” Town nurse Julia Denning (Jessica Biel) seems skeptical…until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller from acclaimed director Pascal Laugier (“Martyrs”) called THE TALL MAN.

Young Clark Kent & Friends On "Man Of Steel" Set

All's been pretty quiet on the Man Of Steel front lately. WB is waiting for Batman to rise into theaters before making their big marketing push. It will kick off with a teaser (rumored) in front of The Dark Knight Rises which most likely will be featured at Comic Con but with some additional extra scenes as presented by some of the cast. Until then we have the below.

Today a behind the scenes set photo has surfaced featuring Robert Gerdisch (Whitney Fordham), Jack Foley (Pete Ross), and Dylan Sprayberry (Clark Kent) striking a pose in front of Stunt Coordinator Damon Caro's chair from left to right.

Again, Clark with no glasses, you begin to wonder if he doesn't slap on the spectacles until the end of the movie. Nothing wrong with change, in fact, I like change. I feel like if Bryan Singer was casting this film, Robert Gerdisch would have been cast as young Clark Kent.

    Tom Cruise IS Jack Reacher

EW has the first look at Tom Cruise's next gig as Jack Reacher. Really interested in seeing how Cruise handles playing Reacher, and even more intrigued with how McQuarrie is going to lens the project based on the book "One Shot" I'm betting on Safe House like performance at the box office.

I know Cruise went through a spell where he wasn't so well liked by the masses. He did get a little kooky for awhile, jumping on Oprah's couch because he was in "in love" with Joey Potter. Calm down Tom. All of that aside the guy has never stopped being a more than solid actor. I still go to movies just because he is in them. Heck, I'm a fan.

"Someone asks him at one point in the story about the difference between a military policeman and a regular cop,” says screenwriter and director Christopher McQuarrie, who previously wrote and directed The Way of the Gun and won an Oscar for the screenplay to The Usual Suspects. “Reacher points out that [for military police], every suspect is a trained killer"

“He is free from any sort of anxiety. He is truly not encumbered by all the bulls–t that makes up our daily lives,” McQuarrie tells EW. “He literally and figuratively has no baggage.”

“He is an extremely pragmatic, matter-of-fact person,” McQuarrie says. “He’s very solitary, but he can’t walk away from a situation that needs to be made right. His own sense of right and wrong tie into that situation and he can’t leave until it’s been resolved. That’s his Achilles heel.”
