Before Star Trek dropped in 2009 I had never watched any of the Star Trek films. On top of that, I hadn't even witnessed one minute of any of the multiple versions of Star Trek television shows, not even by mistake. Between you and me, I was kind of proud of that streak.
I was pleasantly surprised by Abrams' Trek, it was very general public friendly and had everything going for it, except the villain. Like most sequels do Star Trek Into Darkness seems to have ironed out the villain story and made the bad guy relevant again with Cumberbatch as Khan. However, the creative team has jumped on the terrorism bandwagon in an attempt to ground the film in reality (I Hate That Term).
We've seen it in Batman, we're going to see it in Man Of Steel, and now we have Trek. Movies have been dealing with terrorism for decades but now it seems that every action flick and especially superhero films, are shoving terrorism down our throats. Give it a rest, we've lived it, we don't have to get slapped in the face with it.
Will this stop Star Trek Into Darkness from being the 2nd highest grossing film of the Summer? No, but something had to be said.
In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
