    "Mesrine: Killer Instinct" Official Poster

Winner of three Césars (French Academy Awards) for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Sound, MESRINE was co-written and directed by Jean-François Richet, from a screenplay by Abdel Raouf Dafri (A PROPHET) adapted from Jacques Mesrine's autobiography L'Instinct de mort (Death Instinct).  The films star Vincent Cassel, Cécile de France, Gérard Depardieu, Roy Dupuis, Ludivine Sagnier, Mathieu Amalric, Elena Anaya and Olivier Gourmet.

MESRINE:  KILLER INSTINCT - the first of two parts - charts the outlaw odyssey of Jacques Mesrine (Vincent Cassel), the legendary French gangster of the 1960s and 1970s who came to be known as French Public Enemy No. 1 and The Man of a Thousand Faces.  Infamous for his bravado and outrageously daring prison escapes, Mesrine carried out numerous robberies, kidnappings and murders in a criminal career that spanned continents until he was shot dead in 1979 by France's notorious anti-gang unit. Thirty years after his death, his infamy lives on.

Mesrine was helped along the way by beautiful and equally reckless Jeanne Schneider (Cécile de France), a Bonnie to match his Clyde. Mesrine made up his own epic, between romanticism and cruelty, flamboyance and tragedy. Both a thriller and a biopic, KILLER INSTINCT explores the man behind the icon.

Maverick French star Vincent Cassel's performances include the upcoming Darren Aronofsky's BLACK SWAN and Romain Gavras' REDHEADS.  He previously appeared in Steven Soderbergh's OCEAN'S TWELVE and THIRTEEN and David Cronenberg's EASTERN PROMISES (as Kerill, the son of Russian mobster Semyon).  His other credits include Mathieu Kassovitz' LA HAINE and CRIMSON RIVERS, Christopher Gans' BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLVES and Gaspar Noé's IRREVERSIBLE.

Cassel is currently in production on Dominik Moll's THE MONK and will soon begin production on David Cronenberg's A DANGEROUS METHOD.   Award-winning director Jean-François Richet's credits include ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, DE L'AMOUR (ALL ABOUT LOVE), MA 6-T VA CRACK-ER and ETAT DES LIEUX.

MESRINE: KILLER INSTINCT will open in select theaters August 13, 2010 from Music Box Films.

"Howl" Official Theatrical Trailer & Poster

Starring James Franco in a career-defining performance as Allen Ginsberg, HOWL is the story of how the young poet’s seminal work broke down societal barriers in the face of an infamous public obscenity trial. In his famously confessional style, Ginsberg – poet, counter-culture icon, and chronicler of the Beat Generation – recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation that led to HOWL, the most timeless work of his career. HOWL interweaves three stories: the unfolding of the landmark 1957 obscenity trial; an imaginative animated ride through the prophetic masterpiece; and a unique portrait of a man who found new ways to express himself, and in doing so, changed his own life and galvanized a generation.

HOWL is written and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman and stars James Franco, David Strathairn, Jon Hamm, Bob Balaban, Alessandro Nivola, Treat Williams, with Mary-Louise Parker and Jeff Daniels. The film is produced by Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Kunewa Walker for Werc Werk Works and executive produced by Gus Van Sant and Jawal Nga.  The animation design is by Eric Drooker, with cinematography by Edward Lachman, production designer by Therese DePrez, costume design by Kurt and Bart and a score by Carter Burwell.

Opening in New York and San Francisco on September 24th, 2010 and

in Los Angeles on October 1st, 2010.

Magnolia Pictures Takes World Rights To "I'm Still Here"

Here is the the Official Press Release for a story covered originally by Mitch Anderson:

The Wagner/Cuban Companies' Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired world rights to Oscar-nominee Casey Affleck’s directorial debut, I’M STILL HERE, a striking portrayal of a tumultuous year in the life of internationally acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix. With remarkable access, I’M STILL HERE follows the Oscar-nominee as he announces his retirement from a successful film career in the fall of 2008 and sets off to reinvent himself as a hip hop musician. Sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, and always riveting, the film is a portrait of an artist at a crossroads. Defying expectations, it deftly explores notions of courage and creative reinvention, as well as the ramifications of a life spent in the public eye.

Chris Pratt To Play Scott Hatteberg In "Moneyball"

More "Moneyball" casting information from Risky Business. According to the online news outlet, Chris Pratt of "Everwood" and "Parks and Recreations" fame has been cast to play Scott Hatteberg in "Moneyball".

I have to say I really dig Pratt as an actor, he's one of those much needed quirky character actors that is good to have around. He definitely looks the part, kind of an eerie similarity to Scott Hatteberg.

Hatteberg was actually a catcher for my hometown team Boston Red Sox but his ability to catch was canceled out with a severe injury to his elbow. The Red Sox gave up on him and he signed with Billy Beane's Oakland A's where he resurrected his career as a 1st Basemen.

I believe the original plan was that Hatteberg was going to play himself in the movie.
