New Thor Picture!

A new photo of Thor and Odin has made its way online via SuperheroHype. This certainly looks a lot better than the image released yesterday of Thor Odin and Loki which was down right awful.

But until we actually see them in action on film it'll be hard to tell what the fate of Thor will ultimately be, from the images released already it doesn't look good.

Mystique cast in X-Men: First Class

The more I hear about the mutants that appearing in X-Men first class the more this sounds like a reboot as opposed to a prequel. It seems like every character from the original trilogy and then some are set to appear at some point, only the returning mutants have all been cast younger.

Now HeatVision reports that Jennifer Lawrence has been cast as the younger version of Mystique in the film set for release next year.

Mystique, who was played by Rebecca Romijn in the trilogy, is a shapeshifter who can mimic other people, though she cannot replicate superpowers. In comics lore, she was revealed to be the mother of X-Man Nightcrawler.

The trades have also confirmed Kevin Bacon joining the cast as the villain, but who exactly he's playing is still under wraps.

Seth Grahame-Smith Writing Dark Shadows

Something tells me even if Alice in Wonderland didn't break $1 billion, we'd still be getting Dark Shadows. Yes, because Tim Burton and Johnny Depp haven’t done enough movies together. At least in Depp’s defense, he doesn't isolate himself solely with his eternal BFF (They're even Godparents to one another's children – which is admittedly sweet to hear. Not to mention them Christmas shopping together. "Aw, they aren’t 'fake buddies,' but the real kind!")

Production on the 60s horror-themed soap-opera is expected to start this January. "TOLDJA" says Seth Grahame-Smith has joined the production as the newest writer. It sounds like the word from past Burton collaborator John August is being thrown out and they're looking for a fresh perspective.

Smith's two novels Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies have already caught the attention of Hollywood - namely Burton who is producing the film version of Lincoln. So we know where he got the idea to get Smith aboard.

"Mesrine: Killer Instinct" Official Poster

Winner of three Césars (French Academy Awards) for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Sound, MESRINE was co-written and directed by Jean-François Richet, from a screenplay by Abdel Raouf Dafri (A PROPHET) adapted from Jacques Mesrine's autobiography L'Instinct de mort (Death Instinct).  The films star Vincent Cassel, Cécile de France, Gérard Depardieu, Roy Dupuis, Ludivine Sagnier, Mathieu Amalric, Elena Anaya and Olivier Gourmet.

MESRINE:  KILLER INSTINCT - the first of two parts - charts the outlaw odyssey of Jacques Mesrine (Vincent Cassel), the legendary French gangster of the 1960s and 1970s who came to be known as French Public Enemy No. 1 and The Man of a Thousand Faces.  Infamous for his bravado and outrageously daring prison escapes, Mesrine carried out numerous robberies, kidnappings and murders in a criminal career that spanned continents until he was shot dead in 1979 by France's notorious anti-gang unit. Thirty years after his death, his infamy lives on.

Mesrine was helped along the way by beautiful and equally reckless Jeanne Schneider (Cécile de France), a Bonnie to match his Clyde. Mesrine made up his own epic, between romanticism and cruelty, flamboyance and tragedy. Both a thriller and a biopic, KILLER INSTINCT explores the man behind the icon.

Maverick French star Vincent Cassel's performances include the upcoming Darren Aronofsky's BLACK SWAN and Romain Gavras' REDHEADS.  He previously appeared in Steven Soderbergh's OCEAN'S TWELVE and THIRTEEN and David Cronenberg's EASTERN PROMISES (as Kerill, the son of Russian mobster Semyon).  His other credits include Mathieu Kassovitz' LA HAINE and CRIMSON RIVERS, Christopher Gans' BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLVES and Gaspar Noé's IRREVERSIBLE.

Cassel is currently in production on Dominik Moll's THE MONK and will soon begin production on David Cronenberg's A DANGEROUS METHOD.   Award-winning director Jean-François Richet's credits include ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, DE L'AMOUR (ALL ABOUT LOVE), MA 6-T VA CRACK-ER and ETAT DES LIEUX.

MESRINE: KILLER INSTINCT will open in select theaters August 13, 2010 from Music Box Films.

The Alien Anthology Blu-Ray Set Is Coming To Destroy Your Social Life

It's been a badly kept secret that the 'Alien' series would be making its debut on Blu-Ray this Winter and frankly I haven't been that excited about it.  This isn't because I don't love and admire the films (save for the fourth which I despise) but I felt the Alien Quadrilogy DVD boxset from 2003 featured, pretty much, the definitive collection of supplemental materials for the series.

The only items that were not included seemed to be things we would never see.  The infamous deleted scene from James Cameron's 'Aliens' where Ripley encounters the cocooned Carter Burke (Paul Reiser) was left off the set at the director's request, supposedly because he is quite embarrassed by it.  And the idea of David Fincher being directly involved with any sort of retrospective on 'Alien 3' be it interview, commentary or full on director's cut was just too much to hope for.

Well IGN has the scoop on the full specs for the upcoming Anthology set as well as a look at the spanky limited edition packaging right here.  The six disc set will offer two cuts of each film, new commentary tracks from Sigourney Weaver, isolated score tracks and new featurettes.  But they have also confirmed that we WILL see the 'Burke cocooned' sequence and although Fincher, to the best of our knowledge, continues to not be directly involved with the third film, the set will include the full, uncut version of the retrospective documentary 'wreckage and rape: the making of Alien 3'.  A large amount of material was cut from this documentary before its inclusion on the 2003 Quadrilogy set for reasons which will only really become clear once we see it.  It goes without saying that we can expect a lot more footage of Fincher losing his shit with Fox executives visiting the set and, hopefully, full disclosure about this legendary nightmare production.

"Howl" Official Theatrical Trailer & Poster

Starring James Franco in a career-defining performance as Allen Ginsberg, HOWL is the story of how the young poet’s seminal work broke down societal barriers in the face of an infamous public obscenity trial. In his famously confessional style, Ginsberg – poet, counter-culture icon, and chronicler of the Beat Generation – recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation that led to HOWL, the most timeless work of his career. HOWL interweaves three stories: the unfolding of the landmark 1957 obscenity trial; an imaginative animated ride through the prophetic masterpiece; and a unique portrait of a man who found new ways to express himself, and in doing so, changed his own life and galvanized a generation.

HOWL is written and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman and stars James Franco, David Strathairn, Jon Hamm, Bob Balaban, Alessandro Nivola, Treat Williams, with Mary-Louise Parker and Jeff Daniels. The film is produced by Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Kunewa Walker for Werc Werk Works and executive produced by Gus Van Sant and Jawal Nga.  The animation design is by Eric Drooker, with cinematography by Edward Lachman, production designer by Therese DePrez, costume design by Kurt and Bart and a score by Carter Burwell.

Opening in New York and San Francisco on September 24th, 2010 and

in Los Angeles on October 1st, 2010.

First Clip 'The Other Guys'

Columbia seems to really be on top of their shit today. This is the second video they've released today, and the first actual clip from The Other Guys the buddy cop comedy with Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, Ray Stevenson, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Rob Riggle and Damon Wayans Jr.

The plot follows Detective Allen Gamble (Ferrell), a forensic accountant who's more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg), who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an embarrassing public incident with his quick trigger finger. Allen and Terry idolize the city's top cops, Danson and Manzetti (Johnson and Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don't quite go as planned.

I can't say that I like everything Will Ferrell does, but Wahlberg in a comedy and the combination of the two of them alone has me sold. From everything I've seen of this from the trailers to this clip it looks pretty damn funny. It's only a shame it couldn't be a R rated comedy, there aren't enough of them anymore.

The Other Guys opens everywhere August 6.

First Full Trailer "The Social Network"

Columbia picture has finally released a trailer for the social network with actual footage from the film. I'd say it's about damn time! The first two trailer showed relatively nothing, as amusing and even interesting as they were, this served the movie much better. It looks like David Fincher has done something very unique and unexpected with what could have a been a very boring and unoriginal idea. Essentially this is a biography, but unlike most biography's this shows the people in question in an unflattering light to say the least.

The Social Network is based in part on the book The Accidental Billionaires. It chronicles the formative days of Facebook, from its founding in Mark Zuckerberg’s Harvard dorm room through its early rise to success. It hits theaters this October.

Transformers 3 Opening Sequence Spoilers

If you loved the first Transformers or even liked it, but you hated the completely ridiculous sequel, you may be interested to know what direction they're taking the third and final installment. CHUD has the rundown on the opening sequence in the film set to open next July.

**SPOILERS**

There's a disturbance on the Moon. A robot shaped disturbance. Scientists on Earth see this and the information gets passed up the chain of command. In the White House men in black suits are breathlessly running through the halls, and they burst into the Oval Office. The president is behind the desk, back turned to the door, looking out the window. One of the men tells the president, 'Sir, something's happened on the Moon!' The president turns around.

For the full description, and what happens next go HERE.

**SPOILERS**

I hate to say this but it actually sounds pretty damn awesome to me. I wasn't at all a fan of the sequel or even the animated show from the 80's really, but the first film was a lot of fun. Hopefully Bay can at least end the trilogy with something fun and actually entertaining, here's hoping.
