Prometheus Pic and Footage Description From SDCC

I'm no longer sure how this movie is being classed as regards prequelism (new word) but we have our first image and i09.com has the lowdown on the footage shown at SDCC, plus at the link is some waffle from Lindelof and Theron to basically sell you on how deep and smart this is, plus Ridley mentions that the creatures are "biomechanoid".

Footage Description:

And then the actual footage from the film starts, and its a huge flood of creeptastic imagery that recalls Alien but also a bit of 2001: A Space Odyssey. There are guys in pressure suits exploring an ancient chamber with weird hieroglyphs, and a guy in a spacesuit walking through a sliding door into a clean white chamber. And a guy (who might be Michael Fassbender) pulling a weird jelly-looking thing out of a canister. And as Ridley Scott's voiceover notes that things that may look small in the film will turn out to be important, there is a shot of a drop of blood on a finger. There is Charlize Theron on a table with bandages wrapped around her breasts, as though she's waking from hypersleep.

And then the footage gets faster and more furious, with a guy in a visor looking down at something, a woman in a suit walking into a red entryway, and a globe, and then Scott says, "The cast find an establishment which is not what they expected it to be, it's a civilization but what we find in it is very uncivilized behavior." And then there is insane carnage and people with goop inside their space helmets and someone shooting a flamethrower, and mayhem breaking loose in confined spaces. Meanwhile, Scott's voiceover is saying that there will be biomechanoids and the film will "break new ground." We see a giant pale planet with rings around it.

And then we see Charlize Theron doing pushups naked. Ridley Scott proises that there will be creatures that are "biomechanoid" which will be unique and "break new ground." Says Scott in the video, "There is a DNA of the original Alien, [but] that's as far as it goes, everything else is completely different. It's all about everything." And now the people in the footage are crying and screaming and freaking out and the video is flickering like an interrupted signal. And Scott concludes, "Of course, what i want to do is scare the living *beep* out of you."

'Ringer' trailer

Not seen regularly on the small screen since her iconic run as cult favourite Buffy Summers in Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar is back this fall in a new psychological thriller called "Ringer" on the CW.

At the SDCC panel for the show this new trailer was shown. Personally I think it looks great, but given the CW's type of output will this episodic drama find an audience on the network?

Star Wars Blu Ray Deleted Scenes!

Comingsoon.net via Lucasfilm have released a look at some of the deleted scenes from the upcoming Blu Ray release of the Star Wars saga. These were shown at SDCC and are from the original trilogy.

Unfortunately it looks like they haven't been remastered or put back into the film which is a shame and a missed opportunity in my view.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" Poster

After a bootleg copy appeared earlier this week, we finally got to see the teaser for "The Amazing Spider-Man" this week. Looked kind of like a horror film more than it did a reboot of "your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man." At least it was better than "The Dark Knight Rises" teaser, so there's that.

Further questionable marketing involves gives us the teaser poster for "The Amazing Spider-Man" showing off a detailed close up of the new suit. The good thing, it is recognizable as being a Spider-Man flick and it is better than "The Avengers" teaser poster.  The bad, lazy marketing.

We saw this in 2006 with "Superman Returns" and before that in 2005 with "Batman Begins" courtesy of The Brothers Warner. Although both of those flicks had decent performances at the box office, "The Dark Knight" marketing proved there is more to getting people to notice you than putting a hero's logo on a one sheet

I hope the marketing doesn't continue in this direction because I think the studio has to separate themselves.

If you though the above new poster had something familiar about it, here is the Spider-Man 3" motion teaser poster for comparison purposes.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: The First Avenger is the story of Steve Rogers, a scrawny young man with a heart full of determination who has been rejected on several occasions by the U.S. military. His life changes when Dr. Abraham Erskine realizes the great potential residing within, and offers him a chance to be the subject of a "super-soldier" serum injection which transformes him into Captain America.

Before entering the theatre I had such a strong feeling that Captain America would be the must see film in the superhero genre this year. Unfortunately, I walked out feeling under whelmed and disappointed. It doesn't rank among the worst by any means, just somewhere along with the mediocre.

The positives brought with this film include the seamless integration of Chris Evans' head onto the body of a 90 lb weakling, the set pieces, and a movie that you can take your entire family to without worry of it being too much for the young ones. Director Joe Johnston does a fantastic job of making the time period very believable. Other than these few things, I can't find much with the movie that kept my attention.

The movie starts off at a slow pace, giving some insight into Steve Rogers' personality. He obviously is not a fan of bullies and never backs down from a situation where the person is bigger or stronger than he is. His eventual sidekick, James "Bucky" Barnes, is introduced early on as he arrives to save Steve from an alley beating. They go out on a date with two ladies and Dr. Erskine overhears the buddies talking, realizing he has found the perfect subject for his experiment in Steve Rogers.

It is quite a while before we are thrust into any action and the first scene comes after the transformation of Rogers. Immediately after being injected and gawked at by everyone in the room, one of Johann Schmidt's (The Red Skull) Hydra agents is revealed. Erskine is shot and killed, then off goes Roger after him. As the agent flees in a vehicle, Steve chases him on foot while leaping over tall chain linked fences and crashing through shop windows.

After that Rogers is put on display in a sort of side show act, speaking to crowds in theatres and military men stationed elsewhere, wearing a crude version of the Captain America costume. He finally tires of doing this and goes on his own to save some captured U.S soldiers and gets the famous moniker. A team assembles and an important person parishes, but its hard to care for it because everything moves so quickly. I couldn't believe that I was watching the climax when it happened.

The final showdown with Cap and Skull was anticlimactic. The dialogue was sprinkled with cheese while the two engaged in a very short and sloppy fisticuffs battle while the Red Skull's air carrier flew wildly in the sky. The last scene was so forced by the upcoming Avenger movie that I have no problem in saying it is the worst ending of these tie-in films until the big team up happens. Iron Man 2 and Thor both suffered a bit as well with being too focused on what lies ahead rather than what is happening now.

The movie was slow to start off and once Steve Rogers became Captain America it felt like everything was rushed into the ending. I am still a bit unsure of what exactly the Red Skull's scheme was and all that action the TV spots and trailers promised ended up being mainly what was shown in them. I didn't go in just wanting to see action but the previews I've seen feel very misleading now.

Chris Evans was believable as Captain America. The problem with this character is there was never a true threat for him to face. He was never down and out with his back against the wall other than before his transformation. As soon as he became Cap, he plowed over enemies and performed super feats that I didn't feel like he would have any trouble saving the day.

Hayley Atwell handled the role of Peggy Carter well enough with what she was given. She never became that "damsel in distress" mainly because there was never a situation for her to be such a victim. She and Steve share an attraction towards one another that develops as well as it should but never gets to it's ending point.

The biggest disappointment has to be Hugo Weaving's Red Skull. He generally commands the roles he chooses, leaving a stellar performance. I thought he would steal the movie away from everyone else but I ended up feeling like he had been ripped from an episode of Adam West's Batman show. Hokey, cheesy, over the top, whatever you want to call it, he never felt menacing enough at any point to be a problem for Cap.

As the most uninteresting comic to film property this year, the First Avenger tries valiantly to pay tribute to classic action of the past with wholesome entertainment but fails to offer any true threat for the hero. The movie market has become overloaded with "superhero" films and at a time when they need to demand our attention, Captain America doesn't do so for me.

"In Time" Comic-Con Footage and Posters

A world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there's a catch: you're genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich "earn" decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo's love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

"The Raven" Poster

Obvious to me that Relativity Media is going for a similar feel to "Sherlock Holmes" with this project and they definitely have me interested. One problem is they don't have the likes of Downey as their lead, who has great chemistry on screen with Law. That being said, I am a huge Cusack nut and I am hoping to see some big things from McTeigue.

In this gritty thriller, opening March 9, 2012, Edgar Allen Poe joins forces with a young Baltimore detective to hunt down a mad serial killer who's using Poe's own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.

Superman Returns June 14th, 2013

I always thought it was a tad strange that WB was not giving an exact date for the release of "Man Of Steel" instead vaguely referencing December. It reminded me of "The Money Pit" when they kept telling Tom Hanks his house would be finished in "Two weeks."

Warner Bros officially announced today that Man of Steel will fly into theaters on June 14th, 2013 instead of landing on the holidays in 2012. It makes sense due to the fact that WB already has "The Hobbit" in December, but my theory was that Hobbit would move and was only a placeholder for Superman.

I look at this as a good thing, more time to get things right and makes room for reshoots and a better approach to marketing. Not that the film would have been rushed for December, but more time is never a bad thing.

Interesting to note that ComingSoon.Net now lists Jonathan Nolan as a writer on the project. Not sure if this adds more fuel to the Moviehole Story or is just an error.

"Dream House" Trailer Appears To Give Away The Entire Movie

The trailer started off promising - happy family moves into a perfect new home...then they find out the last happy family living in this perfect home was brutally murdered.  The whole thing gives off a kind of The Shining-vibe, which isn't a bad thing.  Plus, it's got Daniel Craig in it.

But then this trailer for Dream House takes a weird hard-left and appears to give away what looks like a major plot point.  I'm hoping they weren't dumb enough to give away the whole thing and there's more to what we're seeing here, but the whole thing seems a bit strange:

Dream House, starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, and Naomi Watts, is scheduled to open in theaters on September 30.
