Garry Marshall Set for "Valentine's Day"

Warner Brothers (via New Line Cinema) is about to release the multi-story romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You this weekend, and the word is it's surprisingly good.

And it sounds like they've got a hit on their hands.

I say that because the studio has now lined up Garry Marshall to helm Valentine's Day - another multi-story romantic comedy from Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein who also wrote He's Just Not That Into You.

    Hmmm, small world.

The project is being fast-tracked to meet a Valentine's Day 2010 release.

    Are Depp and Penn "Stooges?"

There's just something irresistibly funny about three fat doofuses beating the shit out of each other for 15-20 minutes at a time.

So yes, I am fan of The Three Stooges.

That said, the news of the Farrelly Brothers helming a feature-length theatrical version doesn't ring to me (or damn-near anyone else) as a good idea.

Gossip site Just Jared reports that the past-their-glory-days There's Something About Mary filmmakers are eyeing (of all people) Johnny Depp for Moe and Sean Penn as Larry with the position of Curly yet to be filled.

Now, do I personally believe any of this? Uh, no.

But this news-item was just too crazy not to bring up.

    "Dragonball" Evolves

Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming film, Dragonball: Evolution, a live-action adaptation based on Akira Toriyama’s hit Dragonball manga and anime series, debuts in theaters in the states on April 8th. The film follows the story of the young, warrior-to-be Goku (Justin Chatwin), who must embark on an epic journey to find the seven dragonballs and summon the wish-granting dragon before the evil Lord Piccolo (James Marsters) can. He meets friends along the way who aid him in his conquest, including the intelligent and technologically-advanced Bulma (Emmy Rossum) and his wise and humorous teacher, Master Roshi (Yun-Fat Chow).

Director James Wong has mentioned that the film will be a fusion of Western and Eastern cultures, creating a new-yet-familiar world. And, since the original story is very much a fantasy, “[it will] start off in a world that felt familiar, then gradually introduce the fantastic elements of Dragonball, so by mid-movie we are in full on Dragonball mode,” says screenwriter Ben Ramsey.

The adaptation has received a lot of heat from fans of the source material, which is not at all uncommon when it comes to live-action adaptations. Many different factors of the film have spawned negativity, from the casting choices to the character designs. Wong and the cast alike, though, have admitted that not everything from the massive Dragonball world from the manga and anime can be condensed into one film.

Followers of the film believe it will soon be subjected to Fox’s typical promotion explosion, where a cornucopia of new clips, images and promotional footage flood all forms of media. And, after the recent slew of new trailers and television spots, they may be right.

The latest footage (below) was shown on Japanese television and features new clips, highlighting some of the unique fighting and special effects scenes.

    New 'Sherlock Holmes' Image

USA Today has gotten hold of a new still from Guy Richie's forthcoming 'Sherlock Holmes' , the image shows the three lead characters of Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr), Dr. Watson (Jude Law) and Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams).

Irene Adler is not a love interest in the conventional sense, she is a refined woman of great intelligence who Holmes admires, it will be interesting to see how this new version, that promises to showcase Holmes sword fighting and puglistic sides, approaches this aspect.

'Sherlock Holmes' hits cinema November 20, 2009. You can see some set pics of the lovely Miss McAdams here.

I Still Believe In Santa Claus

As I write this it is snowing outside and I am sipping a steaming cup of hot chocolate wishing it was Christmas again. Although the holidays have long since past Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Lumenas Animation Studios has their mind on St. Nick himself.  The studio based out of Salt Lake City, has begun pre production on a film titled "The Legend of Santa Claus". The Colin Brady directed film is going to deal with the origin of young Nicholas during the 19th century and is being billed as the first part of a trilogy.

"After scouring archives and vaults throughout the world, we've uncovered some all-but-forgotten history while piecing together our hero's adventurous journey," Lumenas president and CEO Darin McDaniel, said of the project, the first feature from Lumenas, which has a full range of services for visual effects, feature animation and commercial work.

Brady has worked on such Pixar features as "Toy Story," "Toy Story 2" and "A Bug's Life," as well as on visual effects for "Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events," "Hulk" and the special edition of "E.T." Tab Murphy, who received an Oscar nomination for "Gorillas in the Mist," is writing the screenplay. Mike Belzer is serving as animation director.

Star Trek and Transformers Superbowl Spots!

Paramount has unveiled the Superbowl spots for 2 more of their huge Summer blockbusters.

First up we have a very Kirk-centric spot for JJ Abrams 'Star Trek' reboot, I think this was a smart idea for a spot as it gets the lead character into the limelight as well as showcasing more cool visuals. Ive never liked Star Trek much but I'm a big fan of JJ and he seems to have breathed life into a stale franchise.

Next we have the first glimpse of Michael Bay's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'. the trailer is surprisingly full of robot carnage and all the Bayhem staples of explosions and black helicopters are there. The effects once again look stunning and I am digging our first look at 'Ravage'.

    Superbowl Spots Galore!

Earlier today the Superbowl spot for 'Gi Joe' blasted online and now 3 more movies have dropped their spots on Youtbube!

First up is 'Fast and Furious' the spot has a few new clips in it but doesn't really further things much from the trailer earlier this month, and has that dreadful CGI shot at the end.

Next is 'Land of the Lost' this is the first footage we have seen of this one and I suspect your enjoyment of the movie will depend on your level of tolerance for Will Ferrel, personally I like him and a shonky CGI shot aside this looks like decent fun.

Then we have a painfully unfunny 2 minute clip from 'Year One' I actually stopped watching after 30 seconds.

Stay tuned tomorrow when the 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' spot arrives, it will be the first footage shown from the new Baybuster.

    'Gi Joe' Superbowl Spot!

Comingsoon.Net has a world exclusive debut of the 'GI Joe' Superbowl Spot. The summer blockbuster directed by Stephen 'The Mummy' Sommers and starring Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller, has been pretty much the red headed step child in the fan community, but this spot I think will certainly attract the regular cinema goer, it looks BIG and the action is kinetic and exciting looking.

GI Joe is released on August 7th, you can check out the spot at the link below in a variety of formats
