Friday the 13th Pt 2 "is dead"

Shocktillyoudrop is running this story via what they heard from producer Brad Fullers twitter account. I'm not sure anyone should be surprised to hear this news, especially at this point, Brad's been telling fans on his twitter account for a while now that nothing was happening with the Friday the 13th Sequel.

When a fan asked Brad how things were going with the friday the 13th sequel he replied:  "It is dead- not happening."

The remake released in 2009 made nearly 100 million at the box office on a budget of only 19 million. The problem for the studio may have been that after the 40 million opening weekend, it took an 80% drop the following weekend. This would be un-heard of for most movies, however for genre slasher flicks, they always tend to make the majority of their money in the opening weekend and then slowly limp on from there.

You would think given the popularity for the character though, not to mention the profitability, WB/NL would green light the sequel. Shocktillyoudrop believes there's more going on behind the scenes then what we're currently being told. Could it be that they're not convinced in Platinum Dunes abilities, and they believe Friday the 13th could have been bigger then what it was? The only other movie in the history of that franchise to make more money was, Freddy Vs. Jason.

It's possible NewLine would like to see what happens with the re-launching of the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise before they proceed with any more Friday flicks at the moment. After all Friday was a money maker for Paramount, not New Line, they only bought the rights to the character long after Paramount had already sucked everything bone dry to the point of 'Jason does Manhatten'. Freddy on the other hand is the one that built New Line from the ground up, long before they were ever bought out by WB, The nightmare franchise was their most successful, its fair to say that if it weren't for the success of those films, New Line wouldn't be what it is today.

Bloodydisgusting went directly to the source and asked Fuller what the 'Friday' plans were, he confirmed the reports stating "Right now there is no movement on Friday 13th: Part 2."

I won't be shocked at all, if after the release of the "new nightmare' we get a green light for both the 'Friday' sequel as well as NOES. That is depending on the success of that remake ofcourse, if for some reason 'nightmare' fails to deliver at the box office, I wouldn't expect a green light from either for quite some time. At that point its likely we wouldn't see either again until the subsequent remakes of both franchises once again. We can only hope that doesn't happen.

Third Clip From 'Robin Hood'

YahooMovies! along with Universal has released a third clip from director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood featuring Robin (Russell Crowe) leading his archers in as they storm a French castle.

Opening in theaters on May 14, the action-adventure co-stars Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow.

I think I'm starting to come around with this one, I'll admit the idea on paper sounds great; Ridley Scott directing Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe, but the first couple trailers made it look a lot like Maximus Goes Medieval or Gladiator 2.

The newest trailer and most recent clips have begun to shine a light on what the movie appears to really be about. I'm willing to give it a chance, after all it couldn't be any worse then Kevin Costner's turn as the prince of thieves back in 91'.

New Clip 'Nightmare On Elm Street' remake

Shocktillyoudrop has released an exclusive clip from Warner Bros new 'Nightmare On Elm Street' remake hitting theatres April 30th. The clip features Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) reminiscing with Nancy(Rooney Mara), in one of her nightmares.

It's too hard to tell at this point, but I'm not sure if this will be regarded as a horror classic or another terrible remake doing no justice to the original. When I saw the first clip released I thought, wow this looks amazing, and then we get this. Haley doesn't seem to have a lot of range in where he's able to take his voice, this sounds almost identical to his portrayal of Rorschach in Watchmen.

I'm a huge fan of the franchise, so I hope what we're seeing now isn't  a sign of what to expect for the entire movie.

Leonard Nimoy Plans to Retire From Acting

The actor and director best known for his role in various Star Trek movies as well as the original television series, has decided he plans to retire, again. He agreed to make Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan only on the condition that Spock would be killed off in grand fashion, but the film turned out well enough that he not only reprised the character in the third film, but directed the picture as well.

Now Nimoy has made his final appearance as Spock, in last year’s Star Trek, and will make his final acting appearance, period, on an upcoming episode of Fringe. Nimoy says that, after sixty years of acting, he plans to retire for good.

The Toronto Sun spoke to the actor recently, who says that after "countless times" of thinking he was done, this is really it.

"I want to get off the stage. Also, I don't think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto. He's a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space. And I'm very flattered the character will continue. I've been doing this professionally for 60 years. I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great time, great time."

His final acting appearance will be on Fringe, where his character originally came about as a favor to producer JJ Abrams, who revived Star Trek with last year's feature.

Nimoy will appear in my home town at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend, but says he has only a few more public appearances planned. He'll concentrate on photography from here on out.

Will Smith Back for 'Men In Black 3D'

Yes you read that right. Men In Black 3 is in 3D, surprise! Back in March Will Smth wasn't sure he wanted to do the sequel to MIB, because of another projecting he'd been looking forward to, The City That Sailed. Well according to Director Barry Sonnenfeld, Smith as well as Tommy Lee Jones have both agreed to reprise their roles in the 3D sequel, All they're waiting on is the script.

Showbiz411 reports that Sony is keen on getting production underway as soon as this summer in order to have MIB 3 out for a summer 2011 release, what with Spiderman 4 "falling apart", and not having a blockbuster line up for next Memorial Day in May.

/Film says the biggest surprise was that Jones agreed to come back. There was a rumor floating around about time travel being involved in the possible plot and having agent J travel back and work with a younger version of agent k, Josh Brolin was said to be up for that part. This very well may have been true but with the signing of Jones, maybe they've scrapped the idea, or they had plans to include him in some capacity all along, regardless of the younger "re-cast".

Other casting rumors were that Sasha Baron Cohen and Jemaine Clement have been competing for a role, which was speculated to be that of an "undercover alien", given the previous casting for a certain style of actor, in the previous alien roles.

The first Men In Black released in 1997 made 589 million world wide on a budget of 90 million , and the sequel released in 2002 made 441 million world wide on a budget of 140 million. If they are able to get MIB 3 out for summer 2011 it will have been nearly 10 years since the last film hit theatres, and it will likely come with a nearly 200 million budget, but will the fans still be there?

Martin Lawrence Talks 'Bad Boys 3'

Really it should come as no surprise that Martin Lawrence in talking about 'Bad Boys 3', it was arguably the biggest franchise he's ever had his name attached to, and with his career almost in the toilet after a slew of shitty movies, why not re-visit what helped you blow up in the first place.

While there hasn't been any solid Bad Boys 3 news since it was announced last August that Columbia Pictures had hired Peter Craig to write the script, Martin Lawrence told MTV that he thinks it's happening.

"Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like 'Bad Boys,' you have to take notice," Lawrence said. "I met with Michael Bay, and he said he's onboard too — so it's real."

"I got Big Willie to come down and see me about the movie. I felt special," Lawrence added. "We're just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it's really real."

The first Bad Boys, released in 1995, was made for just $19 million and earned $141.4 million worldwide. It was followed in 2003 with Bad Boys II, which took in $273.3 million.

The biggest problems with 'Bad Boys 3' actually being made are, Michael Bay and Will Smith's salaries and schedules. Bay is currently gearing up to shoot Transformers 3 and Smith is deciding whether or not to do 'Men in Black 3' or 'The City That Sailed'.

The earliest we could expect BB3 is probably not until late 2012 or summer 2013 which seems much more likely. By then it will have been 10 years since he last installment, will anyone still care?

End Date for "Mad Men"?

Well, the world might not be ending in 2012, but it looks like Mad Men might. 

As reported by The Weekly Blend, series creator Matthew Weiner told attendees at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas this week that he does not plan for the award-winning series to extend past its sixth season.  The show just began production on its fourth season, which is scheduled to premiere on AMC on July 25th.

Apparently this came as news to AMC, who is not confirming a 6th season end date.  “No one wants to see Don Draper wearing a leisure suit," says the network, "We trust Matthew’s vision and that he knows where to take the show. But with that said, M*A*S*H figured how to stretch the Korean War for more than a decade, so stay tuned!”

This is not the first time that Weiner has given an end date for the series, which centers around the enigmatic Don Draper and the Madison Avenue ad agency where he works in the early 1960s.  A few years back he told The Hollywood Reporter that the show would end after five seasons.  So don't go climbing out onto the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce ledge just yet.

Although as much as I'd hate to see Mad Men end, I'd hate it more if the show went on further than it needed to just because the network wanted it to keep going.  A series that chronicles a decade in history should not last further than an actual decade.  But I'm confident they'll bring the show to a conclusion that works for all involved.   

Fishing for Avatar

The Los Angeles Times has released a interview with the 'King Fish' of cinema himself, James Cameron. The Avatar director reveals an August re-release of the box office giant among other things and delves a bit into what we might expect from the sequel:

"Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I'm going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well."

Sounds like Jake will literally get his feet wet this time around. The sequel is probably still a few years from being made, as he will have to dream up all of the various multicolored sea creatures, but don't expect another 12 years in-between. He and others that worked on the film have stated numerous times that the world has been built now and revisiting it will be much easier.

Batman 3 will NOT be in 3D

 

Warner Bros recently announced plans for all of their big budget films to be released in 3D going forward. This was said to include all of the DC movies being released in the future as well. Certain movies such as Green Lantern or maybe even the new Superman reboot, I wouldn't mind seeing in 3D, but I was never interested in the idea seeing Batman 3 in 3D.

Good news, Batman 3 might not be getting the 3D treament like every other big budget movie currently being released. In an interview with Cinematical, cinematographer Wally Pfister talked about the possibility of shooting BATMAN 3 in 3D. Like Nolan, Pfister's not interested much in 3D. he had the following to say:

"What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting. Director Brad Bird was saying 'you've got to shoot the whole thing in IMAX!' I was like, yeah, I've talked to Chris about that."

"Chris Nolan wants to shoot Batman 3 on film. He doesn't want to shoot on video, and I'm the same way."

First Clip From 'Shrek Forever After'

YahooMovies! and DreamWorks Animation has released the first full clip from Shrek Forever After, opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 21. Directed by Mike Mitchell, the fourth installment features the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin and Kristen Schaal.

In the film, Shrek has lost his roar. It used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches. To regain his ogre mojo, he strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin. The pact goes awry and Shrek must confront what life would be like in Far Far Away if he had never existed. That translates into Donkey being forced into cart-pulling duty, fat and lazy Puss in Boots trading his sword for a pink bow and the underhanded Rumpelstiltskin ruling the kingdom.

This looks hilarious. I wasn't convinced by the poster released last week, but this looks great.
