Just when I thought it was over they pull me right back in! The Bourne franchise will continue with a fourth installment set for release in 2012!
Universal Pictures announced today that Tony Gilroy is returning to write the script for The Bourne Legacy, the fourth installment in the Jason Bourne franchise. He wrote the previous three films as well.
They also added that while "The Bourne Legacy" is a book written by Eric Lustabader in Robert Ludlum's "Bourne" series, the film will not be based on it.
This is great fucking news! I personally loved the first three films. I felt like they breathed some fresh air into the spy/thriller/action genre. The only issue for me at this point is Matt Damon has gone on record saying that he wouldn't reprise the role if director Paul Greengrass is not returning. Someone at Universal better know enough to write Greengrass a fat ass cheque right about now. Because without Damon I have no interest in the sequel, and I'm sure the majority of fans can agree.

As we wait to find out who will officially take on the role of Spider-Man, we continue to get other peices of casting info. Just last week Blending Cool reported Jamie Bell being the new Spider-Man. Which I still find hard to believe.
Then just yesterday Showbiz 411 reported that Michael Fassbender was up for a Magento in the X-Men first class prequel as well as an unknown villain role for the Spider-Man reboot. At the time I said he should just take the Magneto role, but now Bleeeding Cool has revealed the villain for Marc Webb's reboot is Dr. Curt Connors (aka the Lizard). I must now retract my previous statement regarding Magento, and put my support behind Fassbender playing The Lizard. A villain we've technically yet to see on screen.
This does come as somewhat of a huge slap to the face for Dylan Baker who played Dr. Curt Connors in two of the previous films, but never had the chance to be The Lizard as well.
Damn you Sony! I actually wanted to see Spider-Man 4. Regardless of the weird Vulture/ Vulturess plot. I like many fans hoped Connors would finally transform into the Lizard.

Opening this week is the big screen adaption of the popular 80's Tv show The A Team as well as the reboot/remake to the popular 80's film The karate Kid starring Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son Jaden.
Expect it to be a close battle for the top spot, but ultimately I think the A team will win over general audiences more so than a Karate Kid remake. The all star cast and from the looks of the trailers the senseless action sequences will be a huge advantage to A Team.

Today's Muppet News Flash: the Walt Disney Studios has set an official release date of December 25, 2011 for the as-yet untitled (and still not officially greenlit) new Muppet movie, according to a report at Film School Rejects.
The new film, which will mark first big-screen appearance of the Muppets since 1999's Muppets From Space, is being written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall writers Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, and will be directed by Flight of the Conchords' James Bobin. No official word yet on a title, but rumored titles have included The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made and The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made (which was originally the title of an unproduced film idea by Jim Henson that involved Gonzo blowing the entire film's budget on the opening credits).
Segel will reportedly also star in the movie, playing "a human named Gary, whose best friend is the puppet bear Walter. Together they go on a journey with Gary's girlfriend Mary to defeat the evil Tex Richman, a man who doesn't find the Muppets funny and think he can smell oil beneath their studio."
Sounds a bit like the plot from the original Muppet Movie, minus the creepy frog-legs restaurant part. Segel is said to be a huge fan of the Muppets, and is planning for the new movie to be in the spirit of the original three films, which includes the usual parade of celebrity cameos (including Sean Penn, according to /Film). No word yet if any new songs will be part of the film, although I hope so.
I'm a big fan of the Muppets as well, and it sounds like the new film is in good hands. Let's hope it's as good as the original films, which are still just as hilarious as they were when they were new.

According to The Continuum one of the greatest batman novels ever to be released will be getting the direct to video animated treatment.
Batman: Year One the graphic novel written by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchilli, which was also in part the basis for Chris Nolan's Batman Begins will be directed by Sam Liu, who co-directed Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.
Could this be one of the two project Bruce Timm was unable to talk about back in April in our exclusive interview with him? There's a good possibility, but Warner Home Video has yet to confirm or deny the report. However they tend not to say anything until they've announced an official release date.
The story is as follows:
A young Bruce Wayne has spent his adolescence and early adulthood, traveling the world so he could hone his body and mind into the perfect fighting and investigative machine. But now as he returns to Gotham City, he must find a way to focus his passion and bring justice to his city. Retracing Batman’s first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed vigilante, we watch as he chooses a guise of a giant bat, creates an early bond with a young Lieutenant James Gordon, inadvertently plays a role in the birth of Catwoman, and helps to bring down a corrupt political system that infests Gotham.

As I previously speculated Year One will in fact be released in 2011. The presumed and yet to be officially confirmed from Warner release date is September 27, 2011.

Tue, June 8, 2010 It looks like we "might" be getting an R rated Mortal Kombat films after all. The die hard fans of the franchise have long been lobbying for an R rated adaption of the video game. But the probability seemed highly unlikely.
Until now that is. A new Mortal Kombat short filmed directed by Kevin Tancharoen has made its way onto youtube. LatinoReview has the rundown on who played who, and they're calling this a test video shot for Warner Brothers to get funding for a full blown hard 'R' MK movie.
I can't say that I was a huge fan of the original films, but I did enjoy them when they came out, and I did see them in the theatre. The problem with them is, when you watch them now not only do they not hold true to the test of time, but they're very cheesy and watered down in comparison to what they maybe could have been.

I know I'm in the minority in saying that I never jumped on the "we hate Tom Cruise band wagon", although I did however jump on the "Tom Cruise is Looney Tunes wagon". The point is, regardless of how crazy Tom Cruise is/was or is for that matter doesn't change the fact that he's an extremely talented actor.
Over the past few years he's worked hard at regaining his public image, and popularity amongst his fans. He's downplayed his crazy religious beliefs, and apologized to Brooke Shields. But one of the greatest things Tom did to win people back over was his turn as the Hollywood studio executive Len Grossman character from Tropic Thunder.
It's been rumored for some time now that paramount was working on a film centered 100% on Grossman. After appearing on the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday in character as Grossman Cruise himself confirmed to E! Online, "Yup, we're working on it."
I know some people will hate the idea, but I personally think this will be hilarious. Cruise returns to the action/adrenaline genre in the next couple weeks in Knight and Day with Cameron Diaz, and then again in next years Mission Impossible III. So it should be a nice change of pace to see him in something else.

Yes you read that right, Indiana Jones is said to start filming next year. I figured one of two things would happen after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Either Lucas and Spielberg would never touch Indie again after that CGI filled peice of shit, or they would come back one last time and leave the franchise with it's dignity intact. Turns out the latter is the case here.
I grew up watching and loving the Indian Jones films, so for me Indie 4 was absolute crap. That's not to say that I'm not up for another sequel, but they better bring their A game this time.
Stuff out of New Zealand is reporting the following rumor:
Indiana Jones 5 will begin shooting next year, and much of the plot line will be centred around the Bermuda Triangle, an area over the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft are said to have disappeared.
"George (Lucas) and Steven (Spielberg) have been working on a script and it's almost there," a source explained.
"Harrison is on stand-by for filming next year. This looks like being an emotional and exciting conclusion to the franchise, with Indy facing his biggest challenge yet."

Michael Fassbender must be doing something right. He's reportedly being offered two different roles for villains in two of Marvels most successful franchises.
He was offered the role of young Magneto in X-Men first class, and an unknown villain in the Marc Webb directed Spider-Man reboot. Already cast for X- Men is James McAvoy as young professor Xavier.
According to Showbiz411 who broke the story, Fassbender can't fit both films into his schedule and will have to pick one or the other.
Being as I don't care much to see the Spider-Man reboot, and I have no idea what villain he's up for, I think he should go with Magneto. Under producer Bryan Singer and director Matthew Vaughn I think X-Men has a much better chance at being successful, as opposed to the Spider-Man reboot being helmed by Marc Webb who directed 500 days of summer last year.
