Spy Kids 4 Trailer or Who Wouldn't Want a Dog That Sounded Like David Brent?

Don't know if any of you kids out there know. But there was a series of Spy Kids movies that were popular ten years ago. Before you were born.

Well, eight years on following the third, and 3-D centric, entry Robert Rodriguez dusted off the franchise for Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. Why they're calling it a "reboot" since this clearly follows the continuity of the earlier flicks and features the original child-stars all growed up. Also what's the difference between 3-D and this new fangled 4-D is lost on me. But I'm obviously not the target audience. Translation: I'm old.

Judging by the just-released trailer, those locks on Rodriguez's director jail cell are holding firm. Please note all proceeds go to the "Please Let Me Make Rose McGowan Barbarella" foundation.

Hobbit Films Date & Title Announcement

I wasn't sure if what the heck was going to happen with these Hobbit films. I was wondering if the first part might not even drop until 2013, but here we are with an announcement telling us that we get to see ugly little Hobbit feet as early as 2012.

New Line Cinema & The Brothers Warner along with MGM have announced that "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" will launch on December 14, 2012. The 2nd part, "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" is set for December 13th, 2013. Wannabe Hobbits rejoice.

I'm not huge on the titles, when put up against something like "Return Of The King" they sound more like Robert B. Parker's Spencer mystery novels rather than an epic tale. I do love me some Robert B. Parker though.

The question is, what does this mean for "Superman: Man of Steel"? Everything we've read officially has mentioned a December 2012 release for Supes. Now not only is Star Trek 2: The Search For A Script heading to the holiday season, WB's own Hobbit is going to tug on Superman's cape?

After what happened with "Superman Returns" at the box office, making really good bank but not great, hard to believe WB would be taking money away from it's own character. On the other side of the argument, we saw "Avatar", "Sherlock Holmes", and the "Squeakuel" co-exist in December 2009.

Should be an interesting Christmas.

Leaked Red Band Teaser Trailer For 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'

The first footage from David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo has gone online.  A Red Band teaser trailer started playing in theaters internationally this weekend and has leaked onto YouTube.

Word is the domestic teaser trailer will debut this coming Thursday, June 2nd, and start playing in theaters this upcoming weekend.

Hitting theaters on December 21, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo stars Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Joely Richardson, Steven Berkoff, David Dencik, Alexandra Daddario and Goran Visnjic.

The film is based on Stieg Larsson's posthumously published crime thriller trilogy, The Millennium Series, which was first adapted by the Swedish film production company, Yellow Bird, back in 2009 with Noomi Rapace in the lead role.

Have a look:

I never saw any of the Swedish films, but I have to say, this looks fucking amazing.

Total Recall Casting!

Collider and Comingsoon.Net have the lowdown on the latest cast additions to Len Wiseman's 'Total Recall' adaption starring Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston. John Cho and Bill Nighy have joined the cast, the latter as Quatto, leader of the resistance, although I am guessing he wont appear as part of someone's belly this time around.

The big casting news was on the female front, with both female leads cast. The director's stunning wife Kate Beckinsale has been cast as Lori, the wife of Colin Farrell's Quaid, played by Sharon Stone to arousing effect in the Verhoeven version. The other casting is Jessica Biel as Melina, who was a soldier in the resistence and girlfriend of Quaid's in his other life.

The plot has had a bit of an overhaul with no Mars this time around, instead Cohaagen (Cranston) is planning to invade New Shanghai under the guise of protecting his people. I cans see there being some heavy Blade Runner influence in the depiction of New Shanghai.

'Total Recall' opens August 3rd, 2012 and filming starts Monday in Toronto.

A Girl! In A Pixar Movie! New Image from "Brave"

Well, it's about time.  After more than 15 years of blockbuster films starring toys, cars, robots, old guys, and even rats, Pixar is finally getting ready to release Brave, their first film featuring what appears to be a kick-ass female lead character.

Brave is the story of Merida, a princess/archer who causes all kinds of trouble and is forced into action to find her courage and save her kingdom.

Courtesy of /Film, we have the first official image from the film, as well as some early concept art:

Which will look like this in the finished film:

Pretty cool, right?  The film will feature the voices of Kelly MacDonald as Merida, as well as Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, and Craig Ferguson.

Brave opens in theaters on June 22, 2012.  The first teaser will be attached to next month's Cars 2.

Happy Feet Two Is Bringing Fluffy Back

Call it Happy Feet: The Next Generation.  A teaser trailer for Happy Feet Two, the next chapter in the musical penguin saga, has arrived.  While the first film was about Mumbles, the penguin who could dance but couldn't sing, the sequel revolves around Mumbles' son Erik...who can't dance.  Musical penguin adventures like this commence from there.

Elijah Wood and Robin Williams will be reprising their roles from the first movie, and joining the cast are Hank Azaria, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Pink, and Sofia Vergara.

Happy Feet Two opens in theaters on November 18.

Albert Hughes to Akira: "It's Not You...It's ME!"

Akira was still without actors to play leads Kaneda and Tetsuo and, as reported by JoBlo, no pre-viz team at work. You can also add director to that growing list of missing components.

"TOLDJA" says Albert Hughes has walked from the live-action manga adaptation. They say Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures plan to grab another filmmaker to fill Hughes' place and going back to their original short-list for actors after Keanu Reeves passed.

More and more headaches for a project that most of us don't think will ever see the light of day. How much longer 'till both studios publicly throw in the towel?

I hope that one day concept work and/or test footage finds its way online. I think we all want to see just how the Hell they planned to pull this off.

The Muppets Go Hangover

OK, that was cute. I just hope they doesn't throw it in front of The Hangover Part II this weekend. Considering the blank reaction the first trailer for The Muppets got this weekend attached to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with my audience, can't imagine this being any better.

Nevertheless, I laughed and this just makes me angry that my ideas for The Muppets Go Apocalypse Now and Woody Allen's The Muppets Go Crimes & Misdemeanors remain untouched. Courtesy of Yahoo! Movies:

Shark Night 3D Trailer

The first trailer for Shark Night 3D has made it's way online, and I'm really not sure they intended for it to be as hilarious as it is, but for me I couldn't stop laughing. I know the same guy that directed the genre classic Snakes on a Plane made this masterpiece so naturally my expectations were set extremely high for the first trailer. Unfortunately lines like "but this is a lake?!...it's salt water" just couldn't allow me to take the movie as serious as I'm sure the studio hoped. A lot of complaints seem to be geared towards the racism of the CGI sharks and not the shitty CGI itself. I've heard things like these sharks must be great white power sharks and that's why the black guy died first. I think if given the chance this could be the equivalent to a successful Jaws reboot, I mean given what we've seen so far it already looks like a strong Oscar contender for next year!

If you're actually interested here's the official synopsis:

A sexy summer weekend turns into a blood-soaked nightmare for a group of college students trapped on an island surrounded by voracious underwater predators in Shark Night 3D, a terrifying thrill ride from director David Ellis (The Final Destination, Snakes On a Plane), featuring a red-hot young cast including Sara Paxton (Superhero Movie, Last House on the Left), Dustin Milligan (“90210,” Slither), Chris Carmack (“The O.C.”), Joel David Moore (Avatar), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider Man) and Katharine McPhee (The House Bunny). Arriving by boat at her family’s Louisiana lake island cabin, Sara (Sara Paxton) and her friends quickly strip down to their swimsuits for a weekend of fun in the sun. But when star football player Malik (Sinqua Walls) stumbles from the salt-water lake with his arm torn off, the party mood quickly evaporates. Assuming the injury was caused by a freak wake-boarding accident, the group realizes they have to get Malik to a hospital on the other side of the lake, and fast. But as they set out in a tiny speedboat, the college friends discover the lake has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks! As they face one grisly death after another, Sara and the others struggle desperately to fend off the sharks, get help and stay alive long enough to reach the safety of dry land.
