Daniel Radcliffe Takes on SNL

Daniel Radcliffe is doing the promotional rounds again, not for the Harry Potter movies anymore, but for The Woman in Black, the gothic horror film which opens on February 3rd.  This weekend, he will be hosting Saturday Night Live for the very first time, and you can catch Radcliffe and SNL star Jason Sudekis doing some pretty funny promos for the show here:

Dark Knight Rises Cover For Entertainment Weekly

The Dark Knight Rises will be featured in this weeks Entertainment Weekly with the Dark Knight himself gracing the cover. I'm all for exposure to Nolan's upcoming conclusion to his Batman saga, but were there no better photos of Bale to throw on the front of the magazine. It looks like he is laughing at everyone in the room because they smell a fart and he's the one who passed it.

Notice the text that says "exclusive photos". I doubt they have many photos that will vary from what Empire debuted recently, although I hope I'm wrong in my assumption and they give us some nice new shots from the movie. The site gives a very small snippet of comments they got from Christian Bale;

“I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure,” Christian Bale tells EW. “And I think it’s a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people’s expectations — to make great work.

New Photo From Man of Steel

A few months ago it seemed that every couple of days a photo from the set of Man of Steel would pop up online giving us a peek at what's to come from the beloved comic character. The photo above was just spotted on the message boards of Superherohype. It's said to be a legit photo taken from the set of the movie, but there hasn't been any confirmation from other sources.

From the looks of the surrounding, this takes place during the photos we saw with bearded Clark directing people towards a helicopter. This could have been caused by a natural disaster like a tornado or possibly some large scale battle with Zod and his pals.

"Finding Nemo 3D" Trailer

When Marlin (Albert Brooks), an overly cautious clownfish living in the Great Barrier Reef, helplessly watches his son get scooped up by a diver, he must put aside his fears of the ocean and leave the safety of his coral enclave to find Nemo. Buoyed by the companionship of Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful but relentlessly optimistic fish, Marlin finds himself the unlikely hero in a seemingly impossible land-and-sea rescue.

Hansel & Gretel Will Have to Wait Till 2013 to Hunt Those Witches

Test screenings were held for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters awhile back, but couldn't get anything on how it scored, and Paramount hasn't said a peep about the movie in general. Note-worthy since it remained on schedule for a March 2, 2012 release and a trailer Entertainment Weekly promised that never showed up.

So I assumed we were in a change of release. Enough time for reshoots – maybe August where horror fare does better or October. Well, yes and no. Paramount has moved it back. To January 11, 2013 – a hair shy of a year later than planned.

Not a good sign. Almost as a means to cover their ass, Paramount is telling THR the move has to do with 3D shots only now coming in, their desire to map out the 3D marketing strategy for the foreign territories where the gimmick still secures asses in seats (because slapping on a "In 3D" after the title isn't enough?) and their anticipation for co-star Jeremy Renner to boom. That last part I buy.

Renner's coming off Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, a great action movie doing great business and The Avengers will be here before we know it in May. But those are ensemble pieces and in the case of M:I 4 it's not like people are talking about his performance afterwards (That continues to be Tom Cruise's vanity franchise with elbow room for Ving Rhames and, now, Simon Pegg). Won't be until The Bourne Legacy that truly tests Renner's marketability - a play that could pay off or fail miserably.

If you look up and in the spring or summer hear about reshoots on Hansel & Gretel, don't be surprised.

The Man Of Steel Professor

Variety is reporting that Emmy winner Richard Schiff has joined the cast of Man of Steel as Dr. Hamilton. No further naming is given in the article, but fans familiar with the Superman mythos can assume this is Professor Emil Hamiltion. The doctor has gone through several variations throughout his time in comics, sometimes aiding Supes when he needs to recuperate and in recent stories he feels like the Son of Krypton could be a threat to the world.

He was also once an employee of the US Government which fits in with rumors of the military feeling uneasy about the appearance of Superman. Whether he is in the story to be a friend or to conduct experiments on the Kryptonian, it's nice to see them bring some characters in that have already been established rather than create new ones should he end up being of the same persona.

Weekend Box Office: January 6 - 8

Courtesy of Box Office Mojo

1.  The Devil Inside - $33.7 million

2.  Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - $19.8 million

3.  Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - $13.6 million

4.  The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - $11.3 million

5.  Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked - $9.4 million

6.  War Horse - $8.6 million

7.  We Bought a Zoo - $8.3 million

8.  The Adventures of Tintin - $6.7 million

9.  Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - $5.4 million

10.  The Darkest Hour - $3.1 million

Time for a quick catch-up on the first box office weekend of the new year.  Usually, January proves to be a dumping ground for major releases, particularly horror films, but that didn't prove the case this past weekend as The Devil Inside open with an almost inexplicable $33.7 million.  That puts it right behind Cloverfield and the Star Wars Special Edition for the third highest January opening of all time - even more impressive when you also consider that The Devil Inside reportedly had a budget of around just $1 million.  However, with a Cinemascore rating landing somewhere around dreadful, and widespread reports of booing at the go-to-our-website-for-more ending, this exorcism mockumentary should fall hard next weekend.

The champ of the holidays, the excellent Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, dropped to second place this weekend with $19.8 million.  With a domestic total of $169 million, it has a decent shot at becoming the highest-grossing Mission Impossible film in the series (after the second film, which grossed $215 million) if it continues to play well into the winter.

The other popular sequel destination over the holidays, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows stuck around in third place with $13.7 million.  After a slow start, the sequel hasn't quite caught up to the original film, but it's doing all right.  Also doing all right is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which landed in fourth place and had the smallest drop of the weekend, edging all that much closer to the coveted $100 million.  At least Sony is hoping so.

In fifth place was Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, which passed the $100 million mark this week.  I have nothing good to say about that.  The other family film, The Adventures of Tintin, doesn't seem to be catching on Stateside, but has so far earned a better-than-expected $62 million.

Steven Spielberg had much better news from War Horse, as the Oscar hopeful earned another $8.6 million, while fellow awards contender Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy expanded its theater count this weekend and earned an impressive $5.5 million.

Next weekend, Disney takes another classic for a spin on the 3D bandwagon, as Beauty & The Beast 3D opens in theaters.  Also opening is the Mark Wahlberg action flick Contraband, as well as the musical comedy Joyful Noise, starring Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, and soon-to-be-Newsies-star Jeremy Jordan.

Not Even Batman Can Understand Bane

Following the extremely cool and ridiculously hyped up reveal of The Dark Knight Rises Prologue, fans had one major beef, they couldn't understand a damn thing Bane was saying. Twitter, message boards, facebook and every other troll dwelling corner of the internet has argued the problem since its release.

Well now Conan O' brien has cleared things up by showing an extended alternate version of the trailer in which not even Batman can understand the big bad motherfucker himself. Check out the video below courtesy of TeamCoCo, it's pretty damn hilarious.
