First Two TV Spots for 'A Good Day To Die Hard'

The jury's still out on this one: will it be a generic action film that has 'Die Hard' in the title, or will it be a Die Hard action film?

We'll find out.

Since the first Die Hard in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.

J.J. Abrams Wants You to Know He Could Have Directed Episode VII

Even the thickest of lunkheads (read: yours truly) could see Star Trek owed a lot to Star Wars.

J.J. Abrams admitted during the press tour of the Enterprise restart he was more into lightsabers than phasers as a kid. Take what worked for Luke Skywalker and apply it to James Tiberius Kirk. It might not stand for the principles of Gene Roddenberry, but it worked.

This wasn't lost on Disney as Abrams revealed to Empire:

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

Since Abrams did his Star Wars thing on Star Trek and presumably Into Darkness, it's for the best.

If you're reading this (and I know you aren't), stop wasting everyone's time and announce the Episode VII helmer already, Disney.

'The Place Beyond the Pines' Trailer

A tremendous amount of positive buzz came out about this film back in August during the Toronto Film Festival.

Words ranging from "Amazing", to "Riveting", to "Powerful" were thrown around.

Makes me wonder then why this film is getting a Spring 2013 release and not a Winter 2012 one.  It was shot about a year ago and obviously is complete.  If it's that good, shouldn't it be opening now to capitalize on awards season?  Or maybe they feel it has a better chance during next year's awards circuit by giving it a year to build momentum?  We shall see.

Here's the trailer with the synopsis below:

Luke (Ryan Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son. But when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Bradley Cooper), their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud. The Place Beyond the Pines is a rich dramatic thriller, tracing the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains.

David Ayer's 'Ten' Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger Set for January 24th, 2014

If this film is anything like David Ayer's End of Watch, not only are we in-store for a great film, but a complete re-invention of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Open Road Films has announced Ten - based loosely on the Agatha Christie novel Ten Little Indians - is set for a January 24th, 2014 release date.  Though many might be disappointed at the over year long wait, it's important to remember this film just finished filming (if not close to) and likely hasn't even hit the editing room yet.  No to mention, director David Ayer seems to take his time putting his films together as I believe End of Watch had a similar time span between post-production and release date.

For those unfamiliar with the plot, Ten focuses on a elite DEA task force who heists a drug cartel safe house, only to start getting picked off one-by-one by an unknown assassin.  Schwarzenegger, of course, will play the leader of that DEA team.

Hopefully we'll get a trailer soon enough.

Open Road Films will release TEN, an action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, directed by David Ayer (End Of Watch) and financed by QED International, nationwide on January 24, 2014.

In TEN Arnold Schwarzengger leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the ten members mysteriously start to be eliminated.

TEN stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Manganiello (HBO’s True Blood, Magic Mike), Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation), Harold Perrineau (Zero Dark Thirty, FX’s Sons Of Anarchy), Terrence Howard (Red Tails, On The Road), Max Martini, (ABC’s Revenge), Josh Holloway (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Olivia Williams (Anna Karenina), Mireille Enos (Gangster Squad).  The original screenplay for TEN is by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Good Day To Die Hard).  Producers are Bill Block, Paul Hanson, Joe Roth, Palak Patel and Al Ruddy.

This is the End Red Band Trailer - Great Idea, Wrong Cast

An comedy about the Apocalypse where the leads are celebrities playing themselves. That is a great idea. Who wouldn't see that movie?

Unfortunately, This Is the End is catered around the Judd Apatow gang. So it's Seth Rogen (making his directorial debut with writing partner Evan Goldberg), James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, among many, many others, reacting to the end of humanity. Doing the shtick we've seen for years now.

Tom Hardy Looks Suspiciously Like Himself in Mad Max: Fury Road First Look

AICN got sent this picture purporting to be the first glimpse of Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road. The Playlist says it's real. No reason not to take them at their word.

It doesn't draw much attention to itself. Eh, it's OK, right? Guess I was expecting Hardy to have that thick, and ratty, beard from The Dark Knight Rises press-tour the whole time.

New Trailer for The Great Gatsby

The new Great Gatsby trailer looks lush, vibrant and something that will no doubt look glorious on the big screen. Baz Luhrmann has me intrigued. I want to see how he plans to make the 3D work. Taking that leap of faith as the footage looks better and better the more I see it.

Just lose the modern music. Please, Baz. It stops the footage cold.

Bilbo Who?! Anchorman 2 Coming Christmas 2013

Cologne is typically a big seller during Christmas. So expect Sex Panther, a real cologne now, to fly off the charts to this news.

Paramount is slotting Anchorman: The Legend Continues for December 20, 2013.

That puts it a week after The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and days before their own big Jack Ryan reboot. Bold strategy. Guess that shows the thought of Bilbo Baggins and the dwarfs fighting Smaug the dragon isn't that intimidating in lieu of An Unexpected Journey's not-so-awesome box office. Paramount has to be crazy confident in what script pages they've read (Filming doesn't start till this spring).

Gentlemen, it's time to love your lamp again!

Mark Wahlberg's Charm On Full Display in Pain & Gain Trailer

"June 17, 1995."

That title appears at the eighteen-second mark during the trailer for Michael Bay's Pain & Gain. All we've come to know Bay and his cinematic isms for were there from the start with Bad Boys. Released in 1995.

He's been in our collective conscious for seventeen years. Strange to think that, and while Bay has matured commercially-speaking, creatively he's stayed perpetually youthful. So what's really that different with his bodybuilder, crime-thriller? Besides the standard "He's doing Fargo" quip we'll hear from now till its April 2013 release, not much. It looks and sounds and, I'm sure if Jon Waters could help, smells like Bay. What is so enticing then?

Two words: Mark Wahlberg.

Everything he does here is wrong, stupid ("I watched a lot of movies, Paul. I know what I'm doing!") and will not end well, if you've read the Miami New Times articles the film is based on. The opening seconds tell you. And despite that, you're still behind him.

Like The Other Guys and Ted, it's all thanks to his sincerity. Its there on the big screen and in real life. I recall reading of his attitude to fans watching on during the filming of Ted last year. He'd walk over, shake hands and sign pictures. "Stay in school and get an education! Don't be like me! I got lucky!" he told them.

Not just me who sees it; its clear Bay does too. That's why the two will soon collaborate again on Transformers 4. I like what I see here so much I'm starting to wonder. Maybe, just maybe Wahlberg can be the guy who helps Bay to making a Transformers movie that isn't utter garbage.

Hey, I can be optimistic, as blind and unlikely as it is, can't I?
