Christopher Nolan Going "Interstellar" For His Latest

Christopher Nolan is good at being mum. He is constantly being asked about his next project and never fails at being coy with his usual, "I only think about one film at a time" answer. But with the cape-and-cowl saga hung up for good, we're in a unique stage for the helmer. No telling what he's going to do (Besides it co-starring Michael Caine) and the rumor-mills in overdrive ever since we saw Alfred and Bruce Wayne warmly smiling back at each other and John Blake "rising" and everyone asking, "Now what, Chris?"

He's marked Interstellar as his next project. The same project penned by brother Jonathan Nolan years back for Steven Spielberg to direct. But that was years back and as we've seen, just by this evening, Spielberg has no problem developing a project and eventually letting someone else pick it up.

It has all the good trimmings we've come to love from Nolan; heady, existential science-fiction this time involving wormholes and time-travel. That'll do, Chris. That'll do.

The Robots Won – Spielberg Delays Robopocalypse "Indefinitely"

He can still direct spectacle as well as the generation of filmmakers he's influenced. But Robopocalypse always felt like Steven Spielberg going through the motions. A "one for them" picture if you will.

The title alone was a killer and I never felt the passion Spielberg eluded when he talks up his latest. Returning to sci-fi/action because it was expected of him, and from his investors. I, for one, don't want a passionless Spielberg calling action - no matter the genre.

For the moment, that won't be a concern as the plug's been pulled from Robopocalypse indefinitely. Spielberg's spokesman revealed to The Hollywood Reporter it's "too important and the script is not ready, and it's too expensive to produce. It's back to the drawing board to see what is possible."

Spielberg did this on Munich and Lincoln too and look how great those turned out. Question is will this meet a similar fate? He insists he's still going to make it (The timing of the announcement the evening before the Oscar nominations is interesting too), but this feels like something he'll quietly walk from.

Way to "Twilight" Superman There, Fellas!

Nobody can relate to Superman. He's an alien from a dead planet and an all-powerful god. Neither characteristics Joe Sixpack, with his daily woes of paying the bills or getting his wife in the mood, sympathize with Kal-El over.

Change it up, they say. Throw around buzz-terminology like "dark," "edgy" and "different," like it means something and wait for the oohs and ahhs. Showcase a Superman that is different, but still traditional. The presentation of Henry Cavill as the newest twenty-first century Man of Steel, for err... The Man of Steel, has been bang-up so far. Until this USA Today photo.

The muted colors on the suit, that pale skin, those set of dead, lifeless eyes. Not that Superman requires a smile for every publicity picture (Pretty sure he will at the end – spoilers?). Not hyperboling when I say he looks like one of the Cullens. Do a side-by-side of Cavill here to Robert Pattinson and tell me I'm wrong.

Have a feeling that isn't an accident.

New Evil Dead Trailer Is Sick, Vile & Awesome

Boy is that red band earned.

The second trailer for the Evil Dead remake never lets up. It's promising an old-school freight-fest full of blood (and more blood... and even more blood!), vomit, human dismemberment and some disturbing images. All good things.

Marvel Wants In On Joseph Gordon-Levitt Action

Nobody in this business of show wants to "share" actors. Let alone the franchise players. There's yet to be an actor to successfully accomplish said task. Juggle two film-series at two opposing studios at the same time. Ryan Reynolds tried (The man can't open a picture to save his life) and failed. Daniel Craig got bolder with three viable properties, crashing-and-burning with those vehicles without the license to kill.

Down the line, someone's gonna pull it off. No telling who but knowing how this works, it'll be the least-likely actor imaginable. Like how unimaginable it was to say a decade ago how Joseph Gordon-Levitt would go from a kid actor to grown-up chameleon, character-actor who masterfully played Bruno JR. (Looper), Cobra Commander (G.I. Joe) and "Robin" (The Dark Knight Rises).

Something could be in the cards. "Could" being the operative word.

Levitt is the latest young thespian in contention for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (per "TOLDJA.") James Gunn is writing/directing and said leading role is Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord); leader of the group. Not a connoisseur on those comics, afraid to admit, but when asking a more-comics-literate pal this afternoon, I was informed Levitt is a fine choice. Assuming this goes beyond "consideration" – one in many names thrown in the hat.

The rumor-mill envisioned a future with Levitt doing "the Batman voice" in Justice League. If this Guardians item is the real deal, then wave goodbye to that.

J.J. Abrams Wants You to Know He Could Have Directed Episode VII

Even the thickest of lunkheads (read: yours truly) could see Star Trek owed a lot to Star Wars.

J.J. Abrams admitted during the press tour of the Enterprise restart he was more into lightsabers than phasers as a kid. Take what worked for Luke Skywalker and apply it to James Tiberius Kirk. It might not stand for the principles of Gene Roddenberry, but it worked.

This wasn't lost on Disney as Abrams revealed to Empire:

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

Since Abrams did his Star Wars thing on Star Trek and presumably Into Darkness, it's for the best.

If you're reading this (and I know you aren't), stop wasting everyone's time and announce the Episode VII helmer already, Disney.

This is the End Red Band Trailer - Great Idea, Wrong Cast

An comedy about the Apocalypse where the leads are celebrities playing themselves. That is a great idea. Who wouldn't see that movie?

Unfortunately, This Is the End is catered around the Judd Apatow gang. So it's Seth Rogen (making his directorial debut with writing partner Evan Goldberg), James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, among many, many others, reacting to the end of humanity. Doing the shtick we've seen for years now.

Tom Hardy Looks Suspiciously Like Himself in Mad Max: Fury Road First Look

AICN got sent this picture purporting to be the first glimpse of Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road. The Playlist says it's real. No reason not to take them at their word.

It doesn't draw much attention to itself. Eh, it's OK, right? Guess I was expecting Hardy to have that thick, and ratty, beard from The Dark Knight Rises press-tour the whole time.

New Trailer for The Great Gatsby

The new Great Gatsby trailer looks lush, vibrant and something that will no doubt look glorious on the big screen. Baz Luhrmann has me intrigued. I want to see how he plans to make the 3D work. Taking that leap of faith as the footage looks better and better the more I see it.

Just lose the modern music. Please, Baz. It stops the footage cold.
