Cooper And Reynolds To Be Buddy Cops

The buddy cop genre was really birthed with Lethal Weapon back in 1987 and to this day it remains the definitive movie in the genre, however news arrives today from Risky Business that a new contender is entering the ring as Bradly Cooper and Ryan Reynolds are set to team up in a Sheldon Turner scripted action comedy.

Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper are signing up for take-your-dads-to-work day.

The busy actors are attached to star in an untitled original action-comedy written by Sheldon Turner (“Up in the Air”), who snagged north of seven figures for the gig. The story follows two friends, who are also San Francisco cops, whose fathers were once partners on the police force. The older generation is forced out of retirement to help their sons crack a case, with typically antagonistic results.

The actioner is meant to have an updated “Lethal Weapon” flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory.

This sounds more comedy-centric than Lethal Weapon although inevitably that film is listed as the movie they are aiming to replciate, the addition of the dads could go either way, making things either very silly or if cast well and scripted smartly, a cool twist to the genre.

Life As We Know It Poster

Warner Brothers has released the poster for the Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl comedy drama "Life as We know it." via Comingsoon.Net.

From the trailer I thought it looked pretty funny and the poster clearly hopes to garner some male interest with Duhamel being a comically inappropriate father figure who is still irresponsible.

    New International Tangled Poster

I'm not sure what to make of Disney's new animated take on Rapunzel but it's visually nice I guess, but from what I've seen and heard they have messed with quite a bit of the classic fairytale in an effort to appeal to young boys.

Anyway /Film has the new international poster (France to be exact) and it does a decent job showcasing the all new tomboy slapstick Rapunzel.

    "Tangled" Opens on November 24th.

    Angelina Jolie to be Unforgiven

Just this past weekend it was announced the queen of Hollywood Angelina Jolie was going to make her directorial debut with a Bosnian set love story, now word from Toldya! is that she may have lined up her next acting gig, an adaption of the ITV British drama Unforgiven, the most exciting part? Christopher McQuarrie is writing it.

The original was a mini series that aired in the UK in 2009, the story revolves around Ruth Slater who serves 15 years in jail for the murder of two cops, upon her release she looks to reconnect with her younger sister but is targeted for revenge by the sons of one of her victims.

This is not the first time Hollywood has looked to British mini series' for adaption, last year we saw the classy thriller "State of Play" and this year was the turn of the less successful "Edge of Darkness."

I've not seen the original "Unforgiven" mini series but it was highly acclaimed and from what I've read it's not surprising the role appeals to Jolie, especially with McQuarrie writing.

    New Unstoppable Poster

A couple of weeks ago the fairly impressive trailer for Tony Scott's "Unstoppable," starring long time collaborator Denzel Washington and new Captain Kirk Chris Pine hit the interwebs, now /Film have a look at the first poster for the movie.

I don't think this could be anymore generic if it tried, I mean the film is about two men trying to stop a speeding train that is unmanned and headed towards a small town, yet all the poster shows is the two heads of the leads doing their best movie stares while the title is surrounded by what looks like the lit fuse from Mission Impossible, very poor.

Carey Mulligan To Drive with Ryan Gosling

Carey Mulligan, the pretty and talented actress who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "An Education" is set to star alongside Ryan Gosling in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive" according to Risky Business.

"Drive" has been in the works for some time and originally was set to be a Hugh Jackman vehicle directed by Neil Marshal, but earlier this year it was all change as Bronson director Refn came on board and Gosling moved into the drivers seat.

The film is based on James Sallis novel about a stuntman (Gosling) who moonlights as a freelance getaway driver, Mulligan would play the girlfriend of an ex-con along for the ride when a botched bank heist leads to a contract being put out on the driver, Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) is also in negotiations for a role.

The cast is certainly aiming for the hip and edgy as opposed to bankable side of things, both Gosling and Mulligan received Oscar nominations for indie films and Cranston is the lead in the "Dark and nihilistic" TV show "Breaking bad," plus director Refn is known for oddball and gritty indie films, but I wonder if Universal see this as a mainstream action film first and foremost, the plot is certainly pretty basic and from what I've read the film centers on big car chases.

Filming begins next month in Los Angeles and I am hoping things go well as Gosling, like Joseph Gordon Levitt, has the potential to head up the next wave of great actors, he just needs a film to really break him to the mainstream.

    Fair Game trailer

Hold your excitement folks, this is not a trailer for the Billy Baldwin/Cindy Crawford classic, and hold your anger because no one is remaking that cinematic masterpiece, this is the trailer for Doug Liman's film about real life CIA agent Valerie Plame.

This isn't one of your cool action spy flicks, it's "realistic" apparently and no doubt looking for awards. Top thesps Naomi Watts and Sean Penn head up the cast, the latter of which doesn't get out of bed unless there's a chance to win a golden baldie.

The film is based on real events and looks to be a fairly intense political drama, I like Liman and after the underwhelming "Jumper" this may be just the type of movie he needs to get back on track.

Yahoo.movies have the trailer in HD and the film opens November 10th.

    skyline poster

I wasn't particularly impressed with the trailer the other day, but this poster that has come online exclusively via Shocktillyoudrop, is pretty damn cool.

"Skyline" is an alien invasion movie from the Strause brothers who were the team behind "Aliens vs Predator: Requiem."

    Ryan Reynolds enters safe house

Just last week it was reported that Ryan Reynolds headed up the list of young actors vying for the role opposite Denzel Washington in the David Guggenheim penned action thriller "Safe House" Now Toldja have word that he's in final negotiations to lock down the role into his busy schedule.

Having read the script I'd say Reynolds is a very good choice for the young CIA agent tasked with getting Denzel's veteran badass to the Safe House. I'm really hoping this one doesn't get delayed, this is just the kind of original high concept action film I was lamenting the loss of the other day, given the role has been so hotly contested it gives me hope that it will be made as a summer blockbuster.

Days after Deadline revealed Ryan Reynolds was front runner for the Safe House  role chased by every hot young actor in town, the actor is now negotiating to play the young CIA agent who must transport a dangerous criminal (Washington) to safety after both are attacked at a safe house. The Universal drama is directed by Daniel Espinosa and produced by Scott Stuber.

CAA is negotiating not only the deal, but how to fit the film into an array of plum projects that came to Reynolds after last summer's breakout trifecta of The Proposal, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and landing the hotly contested title role of Green Lantern in the Martin Campbell-directed film.

Reynolds, who'll next be seen in the Rodrigo Cortes-directed thriller Buried--he is in every frame of the movie, trapped underground in a coffin beneath the sand in Iraq--will start work in October in The Change-Up, the David Dobkin-directed Universal pic. If they can make a deal, Safe House follows early next year.
