White House Down Trailer # 2

The second trailer for White House Down, the other Oval Office-themed actioner starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx as our Commander in Chief has dropped.

Those in charge remembered, "Wait, this is a Roland Emmerich movie, guys!" So it's amped up the action ridiculousness we've come to know from the German-born director. The credits remind us of his past glories for a reason. And as if we needed further proof, Tatum is a movie-star, folks.

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's Another Crappy Man of Steel Poster!

The Man of Steel trailers kicked such dubious amounts of ass even Will Smith ran away in fear. That tells how much other studios are even muttering, "Don't go near that!"

Why can't the marketing team do a better job with posters? We got "Man Boob of Steel" and the eleven-billionth reminder Superman wears handcuffs in another one-sheet. Here's the latest from Yahoo! Movies, taken from the afore-mentioned recent trailer of Supes flying and looking hot and bothered and photo-shopped over a blurry Metropolis.

This Is Not a Joke: Die Hardest Is the Title of Die Hard 6

The social experiment of how long can Bruce Willis keep this up continues.

Not sure A Good Day to Die Hard made enough dough for Fox to cough up Die Hard 6. But like any development deal, commissioning a screenwriter is the cheapest part of the process. It doesn't mean a thing. Even for a brand-name as tired as this.

The studio pegged Ben Trebilcook (currently penning a "videogame-themed actioner" Knockout) for Die Hardest. Yes for John McClane's sixth, let that settle in for a moment his sixth, case of being the right guy in the wrong place at the wrong time is called Die Hardest. This time the mayhem goes from New York to predominantly Tokyo. If the Japanese thought Godzilla and Mothra were bad, wait till they meet McClane?

I just realize that will be a line of dialogue, won't it?

Listen to Excerpts of Hans Zimmer's Man of Steel Score

There was plenty to like in the last Man of Steel trailer. But getting our first listen at Hans Zimmer's new score was a highlight. It brought the thrill of Superman without reminding us of the iconic John Williams score.

The soundtrack doesn't hit shelves until June 11 (the week of the film's theatrical release) but Amazon has released excerpts online. It's not Williams quality judging by these snippets nor is it close to John Ottman's underrated work for Superman Returns. Just gotta remember these are excerpts from the tracks.

    Pacific Rim WonderCon Footage

Instead of releasing a new trailer to wow us all and sway public opinion in its favor (like what happened with The Man of Steel two weeks back), Warner Brothers went a different route for Pacific Rim. Throw the footage presented at WonderCon online. I recall a similar move made for Green Lantern.

Ballsy move and this presentation, cut like a trailer, is a vast improvement. But it still feels like its missing something.

    Superman Hearts Money

I have already heard fandom whining. Knowing their mindset, it's because Henry Cavill didn't sugar-coat it with the standard, "I'd do it for nothing because I love the character so much" scripted answer. Speaking in the forthcoming issue of GQ UK (via Metro), the newly minted Man of Steel talks up salary:

"God, all those people who say, 'Oh no, the money doesn’t matter.’ Yeah, right. They're either mad, or they’re lying. I mean, come on. 'Oh no, don’t pay me anything, it’s for the arts.' I'm sorry, no. Pay me the money. I'm not doing it for charity. I'm not a nonprofit organization. Plus it's expensive flying back and forward to LA. You need a job that pays money.'"

    He said absolutely nothing wrong.

Truth is he's not going to be Superman forever. While the red cape and blue suit are his, the smart thing is to make as much money as possible while the property is hot. So when his career inevitably hits the skids, he's secure.

If you take issue with this and Cavill's openness, to quote the great William Shatner, "It's time to move out of your parent's basements and grow the Hell up."

Carrie Fisher Confirms (Again) She's in Episode VII

Harrison Ford has been doing the Deer in Headlights routine since last fall and Mark Hamill has been Mark Hamill (That is to say awesome). But it was Carrie Fisher who first publicly confirmed they were returning for Star Wars: Episode VII. Until her people said, "Oh she was joking!"

But the Mystery Box is headed to the Recycling Bin (Kathleen Kennedy confirmed days ago) and Fisher has reconfirmed her participation:

"Yes, Carrie Fisher confirmed to a rapt audience at the BMO Centre Saturday afternoon that she will in fact be reprising her most famous role of Princess Leia in a new series of Star Wars films, which will be produced by Disney. She was the first of the original cast members to announce her participation back in March, although apparently jumped the gun. Her publicist later said she was joking and that nothing had been confirmed.

However, it seems to be a done deal now. But for fans looking for a sneak-peek of what to expect in the new film, Fisher didn’t offer many juicy details. 'I like being bought by Disney, because they never wanted to buy me before,’ she said during a talk at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.

'I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape. So I’m really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything.'"

Disney says Episode VII will be out for summer 2015. I still don't believe them. Whatever the release is, looking forward to seeing, and hearing, more of Fisher in the press.

Benedict Cumberbatch Out-Acts Chris Pine in Star Trek Into Darkness Clip

This new promo clip of Star Trek Into Darkness is the much hyped hero/villain facedown between Kirk (Chris Pine) and "John Harrison"/Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch).

He's not William Shatner but Pine has the right combination of charm and heroism for James Tiberius Kirk (Still working on the trademark Kirk swagger). But he comes across as awkward staring down his adversary. Not trolling the guy, long as he continues what he did last time, he'll be great again. But Cumberbatch out-acts him by simply playing it calm.

    New Pacific Rim Poster

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.  But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.  On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.  Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

    New Monsters University Trailer

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.
