Sucker Punch Trailer and Poster

Zack Snyder may have lost some fanboy love after Watchmen but he's back with an original called sucker Punch and the trailer has just dropped.

I'll post a synopsis below as the trailer doesn't bother really explaining what it's about but I'd say Snyder's  "an 'Alice in Wonderland' with machine guns," sell of it is pretty accurate, in truth despite all the "epic" CGI laden action I can't say I'm particularly interested, however check it out for yourselves and lets us know what you think in the comments.

Synopsis:

Set in the 1950's, "Punch" follows a girl who is confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.

/Film have also gotten hold of the new poster for the movie which you can see below, the big mech with the bunny face adding another Alice reference.

Chris Evans Talks Captain America!

Chris Evans revealed just this weekend at Comic Con that we won't see the Captain America we know and recognize until about the third act of the film. His final look and Cap suit aren't really shown until the end of the film.

He had the following to say to MTV:

“It’s a World War II movie, so I think a little bit of a cumbersome feel to it and something that’s a bit chunkier … not only serves the time period, I think it looks better. It’s not this sleek spandex suit. It looks like something you might wear in the ’40s in the middle of a war.” … “There’s a couple stages and initially in the script, Steve isn’t Captain America right away. He gets the injection and isn’t asked to go to war right off the bat. He’s used in different areas and different facets, so he has different stages of the suit. I don’t think he actually jumps into the final suit until the third act of the film.”

He also added that his shield will also go through variations and changes through out the film as well:

“Well, during the USO tour, there’s obviously a different shield. And he goes on a couple missions, he goes AWOL and kind of takes the USO shield. And eventually, once he’s kind of allowed to be this soldier, and they outfit him with the new uniform, they decide to outfit him with an updated shield.”

It's nothing new for fanboys to ridicule or bitch about the design of their favorite super hero's costume on film. But from what I saw of the concept art released for Cap they should have nothing to worry about. That doesn't mean it'll please everyone, but just be happy you're not ending up with rubber nipples like Batman and Robin!

Daniel Craig Confirmed to Star in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

There's been a bit of uncertainty as of late regarding The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Daniel Craig had been in early talks to star in Sony's adaptation with David Fincher at the helm and Steve Zallian behind the typewriter. But prospects appeared gloomy when schedules from competing projects (at rival studios, no less) made things complicated for the actor.

Obviously, there's the James Bond franchise at MGM. Who are we all kidding? As much I'm looking forward to the proposed Sam Mendes-directed, Peter Morgan-penned third go-around for Craig, it's not happening anytime in the near-future. So that shouldn't have honestly been a problem to begin with. I guess the bigger fish to fry was over at Universal with the currently-lensing Cowboys & Aliens. The same one directed by Jon Favreau, co-starring the likes of Harrison Ford and was widely considered one of the high-lights of this past weekend's Comic-Con.

Thankfully for Craig, that crisis appears to have been averted. "TOLDJA" reports he's inked a three-picture deal starting with Dragon Tattoo and its follow-ups The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. That's assuming the first film (scheduled for a high-profile Christmas 2011 release) is a hit which everyone is hoping will be the case.

It looks like everyone has cleared out a do-able timeline for Craig for the next Bond, a Cowboys & Aliens sequel, and the afore-mentioned Millennium Trilogy.

You gotta know this is especially gratifying for Craig considering all that bullshit press he got when he was first announced the latest 007.

New Green Lantern Promo Art!

After a half-ass panel at Comic Con this weekend WB has released new promo art for the upcoming Green Lantern film due out next year. More importantly we get our first actual look at Mark Strong as Sinestro, fuck yeah! Consider me re-interested in this, for now. The talk of the giant green fist in the trailer had me worried, but this is enough to tie me and the Green Lantern fanboys over at least until a teaser trailer is released anyway.

Featured is Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond.

Opening in theaters on June 17, the Martin Campbell-directed action adventure also star Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, Angela Bassett, Jay O. Sanders and Jon Tenney.

WB Considering Jon Hamm for Superman

Christopher Nolan is producing, David Goyer writing and Jonah Nolan possibly helming. That's enough to get fans excited and what not, but it doesn’t answer the question everyone wants to know, "Who will be the new Superman?"

With plans set for a December 2012 release, we've heard different names out in the open ranging from Chuck star Zachary Levi in the "Rumor Mill" department to True Blood actor Joe Manganiello publicly campaigning for the role. But who do the studios (in this case, Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures) have their eye on for mild-mannered Clark Kent and his red-and-blue suit wearing alter ego, or is it the other way around?

Sources tell TMT one such actor being "seriously considered" is Mad Men star Jon Hamm.

At thirty-nine (He'd be past forty when The Man of Steel opens), he's certainly older than who's regularly looked at for these franchises. Then again, look at Robert Downey Jr. He's starring in the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes films (and then there's Avengers) and he's a few years older. Not to mention, Hamm happens to have been a fan-favorite for Kal-El for years now. Something that was suggested to him directly by Music Television and it wasn't like he immediately dismissed the notion.

Before anyone starts nerdgasming, keep in mind no deal is in place and there's no indication Hamm and/or his representation has met with WB, Legendary or the Nolan crew. He's one of several names being thrown around the Burbank offices to headline the new Superman franchise. But it gives you an idea of what direction they're looking at.

Josh Hutcherson: The Almost Spider-Man

Early on we were told by sources that Josh Hutcherson was a favorite of Sony's for the role of "Spider-Man" in the upcoming reboot. Some sources were even telling us that he actually had the role. If that was the case, it is pretty obvious that The Brothers Warner "cock-blocked" him and exercised his option on "Journey To The Center Of The Earth 2". Take that Josh.

If you think about it, it sort of makes sense. Why would Warner Bros let an actor they have under contract branch off to play a top Marvel character at another studio, especially since WB is connected to DC Comics? Welcome to Hollyweird.

It's hard not to think of what could have been if Josh had been cast, that is why it was interesting to receive screencaps of what looks like his screen test from an anonymous source. Now we get to see what he would have looked like as Peter Parker. What do you think? Move over Andrew Garfield or thanks but no thanks?

Willem Dafoe & Sam Neill Headlining The Hunter

Having recently appeared together in Daybreakers, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill will soon reunite onscreen.

What's Playing reports the two will star in The Hunter, based on the book by Julia Leigh. Dafoe stars as a mercenary on a mission to find the last Tasmanian Tiger in 1927. Soon after, he encounters the family of a man missing in the wilderness and grows attached to them.

Having not read the book, I can only imagine the MIA husband/father rears his head and matters get sticky with everyone.

Although no specified, one can guesstimate Neill will portray the lost family-man.

Daniel Nettheim will direct.

The New Godzilla

Along with Batman 3, The Man of Steel and a Clash of the Titans sequel, Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures are hard-at-work on a new Godzilla movie. Weird to imagine it's been twelve years since the Roland Emmerich/Dean Devlin/Sony incarnation disappointed after all that hype. I can remember seeing the teaser trailer a year before it opened – common practice now, but unheard of at the time.

Coming Soon has a "First Look" at the new Godzilla (as designed by Talking Dog Studios) courtesy of tee-shirts being handed at this weekend's Comic-Con.

An unspecified 2012 release is currently on target.

Matt Reeves & Tony Scott Rumored as Wolverine 2 Directors

For awhile there, it looked like all we'd hear from X-Men was another solo Wolverine outing. For all intents and purposes, Hugh Jackman is the face of the franchise. I’m sure Fox executives were of the mind-set, "As long as we have Hugh, we have a movie." Which makes it rather odd (not that we’re complaining) when the studio slammed on the "Fast track" button for X-Men: First Class.

So while that prequel looks surprisingly more impressive (and our optimism going higher), it doesn’t seem like we’ve heard any concrete news on the Wolverine sequel since Chris McQuarrie’s being hired to write.

The Playlist says Fox has slashed its list of directors down to Matt Reeves and Tony Scott. The former is still on the "up and coming" list starting off as an alum of J.J. Abrams directing Cloverfield and Let Me In was met with strong praise at this weekend’s Comic-Con. And the former is, well, Tony Scott.

I could imagine Reeves being under consideration, but having a hard time seeing Scott take the reign on a comic-book prequel/sequel/whatever. Regardless, word is production (which was originally aimed to start this January) has been delayed to an as-yet-determined date.

Perhaps Fox is waiting to see the reception to First Class before committing to Wolverine 2.

Robocop Reboot R.I.P.

It's been all about The Hobbit and James Bond, but there are others with their heads in the sand during the MGM fiasco. You've got the near-completed Joss Whedon-produced Cabin in the Woods and the Red Dawn remake. Their fates for the time being involved them collecting dust on the shelves. Then there are properties that would have moved forward under less financially-dire circumstances like The Three Stooges.

Oh, and that Robocop reboot!

Speaking of which, Movie Hole got word on the status of Darren Aronofsky's planned-take of the 1987 sci-fi classic (some would say masterpiece, I would agree with those people):

"Gone. Kaput. Canceled. It was one of the first casualties. [Darren] has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we're all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there".

I feel like I can speak for many when I say Aronofsky's involvement was the only reason I even cared to hear of an updated Robocop. Anything related to Officer Murphy without the name "Paul Verhoeven" has been crap. This, on the other hand, could have been the exception. Alas.
