Captain Kirk Could Be the Fastest Man Alive

His slate is pretty tight commanding the U.S.S. Enterprise and fighting terrorists. But would there be any room to fit in wearing the red-and-gold suit?

My alma mater Screen Rant reports Chris Pine is being eyed to headline The Flash. What's funny is it's actually a blurb at the tag-end of a piece by my pal Rob Keyes covering an interview with screenwriter Marc Guggenheim. It obviously wasn't intended as the main subject. But we nerds can sniff out li'l info nuggets like a dog using its scent.

Pine's on everyone's go-to list for leading men since Star Trek. So I don't doubt for a second his name's been batted around the Burbank offices for Barry Allen. Remember, he was up for Green Lantern before they settled on Ryan Reynolds.

But The Flash is a ways off (2013 at the earliest), and I doubt he'll score the role. He's already headlining the rebooted Trek franchise and if Moscow (the new Jack Ryan reboot) clicks, he'll have two. The guy is smart enough to know while he has everyone's undivided attention, he can prove to the mainstream he's more than just Captain Kirk. Basically avoid type-casting by starring in successful non-genre projects like Unstoppable, which is said to be tracking to big numbers.

Movie Moan TV - 'The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters' (2007)

This week, take a trip with your regular Movie Moan crew into the closed off, obsessive compulsive, down and dirty world of competitive arcade video game playing and the epic story of one man who dared to change everything.

It is an emotionally powerful journey of triumph and redemp......actually it's just the superb documentary 'The King Of Kong'.

Our review also includes a never before seen clip from the upcoming motion picture 'Indiana Wiebe & The Temple of Mitchell'.

Bullet Dodged: More Superman Lives Pictures Surface

Fans won't 100% agree on whomever Zack Snyder and Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures pick as the new Superman. Some think Brandon Routh's services should be retained, while others are of the mind Tom Welling should be promoted from Smallville to the 2012 reboot. The list goes on and on with candidates fandom wants in the red-and-blue suit.

But you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who thought Tim Burton's Superman Lives was a worthwhile endeavor – other than for the watching a disaster onscreen mentality.

A tad over a year ago, the world was first shown exactly how Nicolas Cage would have looked in the final in a series of suits – to be shown near the end. We weren't exactly sure if the photo was real, but no one prominent debunked.

FX artist Steve Johnson has post a series of pictures from his work on the suits (including sculptures and moldings of Cage) on his Facebook account. Look in horror while you still have the opportunity. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if those photos are taken down by WB legal.

Betty White-Mania Continues: Will Appear in Men in Black 3

Why is that picture there, you ask? While searching Google Images under her name, this appeared. *Long pause* I couldn't help myself...

Yes, she's a sweet woman (I don't think it's an act). But haven't we had enough of Betty White in the past year? Then again, she's been in the public eyes for decades. Hell, I can't even think of anyone who doesn't love her. A co-worker of mine would probably go all Penguin (from The Blues Brothers, not Danny DeVito) on me for speaking ill of Mrs. White. But I'm not - I like her too. But its weird how she's had this epic career resurgence.

In what confirms an item first broken by Bloody-Disgusting two weeks prior, E! Online reports we can expect to see her in Men in Black 3. Really, Sonnenfeld? Via the intial BD scoop, White will play "one of the character's mothers." Why do I get the impression she'll either be the mum of an alien or Will Smith's Agent J?

At least, this won't be awkward like Michael Jackson in Men in Black 2. Right...?

Sir Ian McKellen Mum on The Hobbit; Not Under Contract Yet

My first reaction was "WHAAAAAAAA?!"

Over the past year or so, how many times has Sir Ian McKellen talked up about The Hobbit, telling everyone when filming would start and then nothing happened? That's right, a lot. For awhile, it looked like he was the sole cheerleader behind the productions. By such statements, we assumed he'd long been committed to return as Gandalf the Grey.

Nope. Speaking to Broadway World, McKellen revealed that nugget of info. Even more interesting to note, he wouldn't confirm or deny whether he's had any meetings over his return. That would explain why he wasn't mentioned alongside Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins as the new cast was announced last week. Then again, neither was Andy Serkis if memory serves me correct.

All this translates to is his desire (rightfully so, I'd add) to get a piece of the Middle Earth pie. It sounds like nothing more than negotiation tactics on McKellen and his representation's half. I doubt anyone thinks we'll see The Hobbit without McKellen as Gandalf.

Two New Trailers!!!

First up we have "Unknown white male" starring Liam Neeson, it looks like a very cool thriller with a splash of Hitchcock and a dollop of Bourne. Neeson as always looks like delivering the goods and he's on a real roll with genre flicks.

Next up we have "Sanctum" a visually awesome looking cave diving movie that's premise is the tried and tested "survival after a disaster" deal.

James Cameron's name is front and center as he's producing and they mention Avatar (Shock!) although I don't really recognize any of the actors bar Richard Roxburgh.

Deathly Hallows Soundtrack Preview

We are now a mere three weeks away from the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I and the promotional blitz is officially in full force.  In addition to some pretty terrific TV and print ads popping up everywhere, you can now get a preview of Alexandre Desplat's score for the film here (fair warning:  there's at least one major spoiler in the track titles for anyone who hasn't read the book).

I'm listening to it as I'm writing this, and it's sounding great.  Definitely the right amount of epic-ness and tragedy required for the first part of the story.  The soundtrack will be available for pre-order on November 2, and will arrive in stores on November 16.

In other Deathly Hallows-related news, Box Office Mojo is reporting that the MPAA has revised Part 1's PG-13 rating to include a warning about "brief sensuality" to go with the "sequences of intense action violence and frightening images.".  Yikes.  Deathly Hallows Part 1 is the third film in the series to be rated PG-13, along with Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix.  Let's just assume right now that Part 2 will be the fourth.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 opens in theaters on November 19th.

Wolverine 2 Details Leak

Getting Darren Aronofsky to direct Wolverine 2 is on the same level a coup as getting Christopher Nolan to produce Superman: The Man of Steel.

While that great filmmaker's involvement has raised eye-brows and the hopes of fans, it just isn't enough to get me to give a damn. I think they're forgetting just how much Wolverine (and X-Men: The Last Stand, to a lesser degree) stunk of poop. But it's still happening and will probably hit around June 2012 (Fox hasn't given an official release date yet).

The folks at Pajiba have the character and some plot details on the sequel/prequel/spin-off (Will a new term be invented for this genre – "sepreqoff?"). So expect to see the same stuff "exclusively" reported in a week or so by "TOLDJA."

I won't cut and paste it here (Click on the damn link, and give Dustin some traffic, bitches!). But it confirms what everyone has known forever-and-a-day. Fans are finally going to get the popular 1982 Japan-set comic mini-series adapted.

The irony is this and X-Men: The First Class could creatively redeem the series. But I think it's in the "Too little, too late" stage with the general public.

Judd Apatow's Latest Hitting June 1, 2012

Details are still on the "We ain't saying shit!" side of things, but Judd Apatow is writing the script for what will be his next directorial go-around.

"TOLDJA" reports Universal has set a June 1, 2012 release date on the untitled feature. There's been enough time since Funny People (which I found to be the strongest of his three films) tanked so Apatow has hopefully let those wounds of his first flop heal.

The only questionable move (and I realize we know squat about the plot, which of his alum if any will star, etc.) is that June release. Going up that early in the summer (where things will be competitive as shit with tentpoles vying for screens and our wallets) is risky.

If I'm calling the shots, I'd push it back to August. Let The Dark Knight Rises eat everyone alive for a few weeks, and take the opportunity to be the first thing presented as an alternative for folks tired after seeing the third Batman installment a dozen times.

Mike Tyson Returning for The Hangover 2

A sequel as questionable as The Hangover 2 (creatively-speaking, certainly not commercially for Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures) doesn't need this kind of press.

That's why I'd love to pull average folks (those who don't religiously follow the film scene like us) on camera and get their take on the public mess of hiring Mel Gibson, only for some in the cast (notice I didn't add "and crew") to throw a hissy-fit about working with him and Mad Mel's ass being shown the door.

I think most would belong in the "You won’t work with bigot Gibson, but you had no problem working with convicted-rapist Mike Tyson?" crowd.

Speaking of Tyson (who admittedly was very funny in the original – yes, I too can separate a performance on camera from what someone does off camera), director Todd Phillips confirmed in a interview with Details he will return for the sequel. Again, as much as I feel bad for Phillips for this nonsense, he's partly to blame for not thinking including Gibson wouldn't sit well with everyone. To be fair, maybe he assumed the cast would be, you know, professionals?

Such as Tyson who confirmed to the New York Post of his appearance, and gave his thoughts of Mel-gate:

"I'm not going to ever in my life point my finger at anyone. I don't live in a glass house. None of us do. I work with anybody, as long as they're respectful."

Very true words - honestly everything he said in the article I agreed with. It's interesting to see how he's coming off the best in this whole ordeal.
