"True Blood" Season Five Teaser

Season 5 - Buried Tease

"Game Of Thrones" Season 2 Trailer

Game of Thrones is an HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire". Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime, Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's seven noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise.

The frozen wilderness, a plane crash, and wolves have learned not to screw with Liam Neeson, and neither has the box office, as The Grey sailed its way to the top spot this weekend with an estimated $20 million.  That's slightly below the openings of two previous ass-kicking Neeson films Taken ($24.7 million) and Unknown ($21.9 million), but still a better than expected opening.

It was even good enough to finish the weekend well ahead of two films that had somewhat of an edge thanks to ticket deals offered on Groupon, as One For the Money opened with $11.7 million and Man on Ledge opened with $8.3 million.  However, audiences seemed to prefer their action movies involving Liam Neeson vs. wolves, vampires vs. werewolves, and tales of the Tuskegee Airmen, as Underworld Awakening held on at second place with $11.7 million and Red Tails still came out ahead of Ledge with $10.4 million.

Since the Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week, a few of the nominees had their theater counts boosted and saw some nice bumps in attendance this weekend.  Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which was inexplicably nominated for Best Picture, managed to stick around in the top five with $7.1 million, and The Descendants found a place just behind it with $6.55 million.  The Artist inched that much closer to the top ten (first time for a silent film...ever?) with it's best weekend yet, earning $3.3 million, and Hugo returned to many locations this weekend and earned a decent $2.3 million.

Next weekend, Daniel Radcliffe hopes to scare the crap out of moviegoers (in a good way) in his first major post-Harry Potter role as The Woman in Black opens in theaters.  It will be competing with the found-footage/superhero-ish film Chronicle, as well as the save-the-trapped whales family film Big Miracle.  Should be another busy weekend.

"The Artist" Is Still Awesome Even When They Mess Up

The French movie site Allocine (at least that's what I think it is, I don't speak French) has released a hilarious blooper reel from The Artist.  The clips are very much like the actual movie: black-and-white, silent, and mostly adorable, especially when the screwups involve Uggie the dog, who may be a regular canine Marty McFly on a skateboard, but does still miss the occasional cue:

I've seen The Artist twice now, and it's just a great movie.  Totally deserving of all of the awards love it's being slobbered with right now.  And since it's now finally playing mostly everywhere, definitely check out The Artist in theaters if you can.

New Prometheus Image

Ridley Scott's highly anticipated return to sci fi "Prometheus" has garnered a lot of positive feedback from what has been revealed so far, with a genuine feeling he has captured the magic again as in his previous two outings in the genre.

The image, from Prometheus-Movie, features the giant stone head we've seen a few times now and will no doubt fuel more Space Jockey theories.

New Lockout Trailer

"Lockout" has been described as "Die Hard in space." After viewing the trailer courtesy of IGN, I can see why.

Sure, there is some pretty corny dialogue and this doesn't look like the most original slice of cinematic pie out there. But the action looks solid enough and Guy Pearce seems to be enjoying his character. How often do you really see that in these type of movies?

'Terminator 5' Will Be Rated R

In probably the best news that's come to the Terminator universe in a long time, current franchise rights holder Megan Ellison (head of Annapurna Films) went on record today to state that the next installment of the sci-fi franchise will be rated R.  Responding to a question asked by TheTerminatorFans.com on Twitter in regards to the film's rating, Ellison had this awesome response to say:

We can’t really tell you guys anything about Terminator BUT it will be an R rated film as God and James Cameron intended.

How refreshing is that to here?  With all the bullshit dumbing down of action franchises in recent years (Terminator, Die Hard, most recently The Expendables) it's nice to here this woman knows what true fans of Terminator want.

Now if they can only bring back Linda Hamilton along with Arnold and have James Cameron executive produce, I'd be sold.

International Trailer for Mirror Mirror Actually About Snow White

While it still doesn't leave you wanting more (unlike Snow White & the Huntsman) and remains surprisingly un-Tarsem (No striking visuals), this new international trailer for Mirror Mirror, via Coming Soon, is an improvement in every way possible from the trailer last year. Namely making it about Snow White (Lily Collins) instead of the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts) and not playing it up as a broad screwball comedy but a family-friendly fairy tale with a fair amount of adventure and humor.

An odd choice since you'd think Relativity Media would have had the Queen-centric trailer for the international crowds since Roberts still has name-appeal and vice versa.

I Think You Can See Kristen Stewart's Boogers

Universal is here to remind us Snow White & the Huntsman is coming. Not that anyone forgot following that kick-ass teaser trailer.

The studio has taken to the official Facebook page for the forthcoming Rupert Sanders-directed epic and posted this new shot of Kristen Stewart in the title role. No, I can't tell what she's doing in this picture either, and there's no Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth or Ian McShane dwarves in sight. Um, enjoy?
