David Ayer to Direct Will Smith & Joel Edgerton in 'Bright'
Thu, March 3, 2016
News hit last night that director David Ayer and Will Smith - who recently worked together on the upcoming Suicide Squad (hitting theaters August 5th) - are reteaming on Bright, a contemporary cop thriller with a fantastical twist. No other plot details are known at the moment but the project is out to bidders with a mandate to both finance and produce the prospective film.
Joel Edgerton (Black Mass, Warrior) is also attached to star with the film's script being written by Max Landis (Chronicle).
Edgerton - if you may recall - had been up for a role in Suicide Squad after Tom Hardy originally dropped out of that project.
Ayer and Smith obviously built a good relationship working together on Suicide Squad to attach themselves to another film and Edgerton is a guy who seemingly can do no wrong nowadays having had a slew of films hitting recently (his directorial debut, The Gift, as well as Jane Got a Gun) as well as this year's Midnight Special and the interracial drama Loving).
We'll keep you posted on more regarding this project as prospective buyers are expected to submit their bids in the coming days.
